As my first year in Senior High comes to a close, one of my personal success stories is how I
was able to go this far. Back then, I was so against in choosing a strand and having to take
college entrance exams because I didn't know what I wanted for myself, I was that afraid of the
future. However, I'm currently a HUMSS student who has narrowed down the courses I want to
choose, something that I never thought I'd actually be so sure of doing. I think my grade school
self would be shocked and proud of me at this moment. During my first years of elementary, I got
Merit Awardee certificates and did particularly well in academics, but we all experience curve
balls and hardships in school, and I personally experienced mine during the final years of
elementary, and I accepted that I'd stay the same all throughout high school, but I was wrong. I
entered so many fair committees, I participated in a lot of classroom events and even took up a
few leadership roles, I put myself out there a lot the past few school years in general, and I
myself am so happy with how everything has turned out lately.
Another success story is how I improved as a person overall and have met and befriended so
many amazing people, even seniors who I never thought I'd interact with are now one of the
people I interact with everyday. Back in elementary, despite being a friendly and outgoing
person, but there were times where I bluntly say things because I don' think before I speak, and I
can come across as headstrong sometimes in a negative way. The past 2-3 years however, I'm
glad that my sense of maturity developed and I can really observe that from the way that I speak
and behave itself. I choose what to say and do before acting upon it, while still maintaining my
bubbly and humorous self with my peers. I would like to give a small appreciation to the seniors
of batch '25, specifically the class of 12- Honesty, for they showed me that talking to seniors isn't
at all a scary experience and that just like them, they have a lot in store for college and for their
life in the future as well.
There aren't a lot of bigshot milestones that I've achieved that is worth celebrating to many
people, but I think some milestones are worth celebrating with just myself, especially because
these are personal achievements containing my growth as a person. Many people often think
they'll peak in high school, but I personally think that "peaks" happen throughout different parts
of our life whenever we reach our highest point in something. I'm really unsure of what life lies
ahead of me when I finish senior high, and if my current achievements will mirror my future
achievements, but one thing is for sure and it is that I'm proud of myself for everything I've done
up to this point.
Even with all the achievements I've made so far, there are still a few
but important things I have to polish on. One of them is managing my
schedules, such as my time management, work to free time ratio, etc.
During first semester, I was doing quite well as the workload was
heavy but manageable, by the time second semester rolled by
however, it got harder to balance different things at the same time as
all the tasks assigned to us were just as important as the rest.
Factors, or a factor that affect this is procrastination, especially
procrastination, as it leads me to rushing my deadlines and
submitting half-heartedly done works that weren't executed enough
based on the vision I had.
Another area is that, even if I'm HUMSS, a strand that isn't
necessarily associated with Mathematics, I'd still like to improve on it
as I know my top course choice, BA Psychology, includes
Mathematics one way or another. Ever since I was young, the subject
has always been a weak point of mine, so it's not uncommon to see a
line of 8 on my card in my previous grade levels. Lately however,
especially this semester in our subject called Statistics and
Probability, I have observed higher scores from my written works, and
that motivates me to keep doing better and better. It's a shame
however that since I'm not confident in my skills in Mathematics, I
never recited at all, because it's either I never knew the answer or I
was unsure if the answer or term that the teacher is looking for is
correct.
