World Liver Day is celebrated on April 19th
## World Liver Day was initiated by the European
Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) in
2010. The day coincides with the formation of
EASL in 1966.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates
Sansad Khel Mahakumbh in Lucknow, UP
## The Khel Mahakumbh will be held from April 19 to
22, 2025 at the K.D. Singh Babu stadium in Lucknow.
## Approximately 2,500 sportspeople (students) are
participating in the four-day sporting event. They will
compete in eight events- Athletics, Kabaddi, Basketball,
Volleyball, Football, Hockey, Boxing and Taekwondo.
Asian U18 Athletics Championship 2025 concludes in Saudi Arabia
## The 6th Asian U18 Athletics
Championship was organised by the Asian
Athletics Association at the Prince Naif Bin
Abdulaziz Sports City, Saudi Arabia, from
April 15 to 18, 2025.
## The Indian athletes won 11 medals:
one gold, five silver, and five bronze. Himanshu
## Himanshu won the solitary gold for India in the javelin throw event. It was
the first time India won a gold medal in the boys’ javelin throw event in the
Asian U18 Athletics Championship.
## Himanshu hails from Jhajjar district of Haryana.
IIT-Hyderabad builds world's highest on-site
3D-printed military bunker in Leh
## IIT-Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Indian
Army under Project PRABAL, have successfully
delivered India’s first on-site 3D printed protective
military structure at a height of 11,000 feet in Leh.
## This is the world’s highest-ever in-situ 3D printed
construction, achieved in extreme high-altitude, low-
oxygen (HALO) conditions.
## Using locally sourced materials, a form-optimised bunker was printed in just 14
hours, and the project was completed in five days despite hostile weather.
Dr Mangi Lal Jat appointed as Director General of Indian Council of
Agricultural Research (ICAR)
## Dr Mangi Lal Jat will take the place of Dr
Himanshu Jain, who was earlier appointed as the
Director General of the International Crops Research
Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
## Dr Lal will also be the Secretary of the Department
of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE).
## ICAR was set up as the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research by the British
on 16 July 1929.
## Headquartered in New Delhi, ICAR comes under the Union Ministry of
Agriculture and Farmer Welfare.

## The birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji
Ambedkar was celebrated at the headquarters of the
United Nations in New York.
## The permanent mission of India in New York
organised this important function.
## Union Minister of State for Social Justice and
Empowerment Ramdas Athawale also addressed the
function.
## New York City Mayor Eric Adams officially proclaimed April 14, 2025, as Dr.
B.R. Ambedkar Day.

Newly Appointed Secretaries By Union Government
## Arvind Shrivastava has been appointed Revenue Secretary in the Union Ministry
of Finance.
## Anuradha Thakur has been appointed as new Finance Secretary and Secretary
of the Department of Economic Affairs.
She will succeed Ajay Seth upon his retirement on 30 June 2025.
## Vumlunmang Vualnam has been appointed as the Secretary, Department of
Expenditure, Union Minister of Finance.
## Mrs Vandana Gurnani has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Labour and
Employment.
## Samir Kumar Sinha has been appointed as the Civil Aviation Secretary.
## Vivek Aggarwal has been appointed as Secretary to the Union Ministry of
Culture. He will succeed Arunish Chawla.
## Hari Ranjan Rao has been appointed Sports Secretary.
Hari Ranjan Rao will assume his office upon the retirement of the current Sports
Secretary, Sujata Chatruvedi, on June 30, 2025.
## Rajesh Agarwal has been appointed Secretary of the Department of Commerce.
He will take over after the retirement of the incumbent, Sunil Barthwal, on
September 30, 2025.
## Rajit Punhani has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development
and Entrepreneurship.
He will assume the post after the incumbent, Atul Kumar Tiwari, retires on 30
June 2025.
## Santosh Kumar Sarangi has been appointed Secretary, Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy. He will succeed Nidhi Khare.
## Pallavi Jain Govil has been appointed Secretary of the Department of Youth
Affairs.
## Nikunja Bihari Dhal has been named as the new Secretary, Ministry of
Parliamentary Affairs.
Nikunja will assume his office after the retirement of incumbent Umang Narula
on 30 June 2025.
Arunachal Pradesh to host “Buddha Dhamma
and the Culture of North-East India” conclave
## The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) in
collaboration with the Ministry of Culture is hosting a
two-day International Conclave at Namsai, Arunachal
Pradesh, titled “Buddha Dhamma and the Culture of
North-East India” on 21-22 April 2025.
Hindi made compulsory as 3rd language in
Maharashtra Schools
## The Maharashtra government has announced that
Hindi will be a compulsory third language from Classes
I to V in Marathi and English medium schools, in line
with the National Education Policy, NEP 2020.
## Currently, only Marathi and English are mandatory
from Classes I to IV in these schools.
