7 Recld this information from a website about jazz dance and then answer the questions.
Jazz dance has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly
due to its popularity on television shows, in ~ov!~ .,, music videos. and commercials.
People enjoy watching jazz dancers as the dancing 1s fun dnd energetic.
Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's indi~idual_ style and
originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps 1n their o~vn way.
Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, cc"cisting of unique moves, fancy footwo~, big leaps
and quick turns. To excel in jazz dance, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as
this encourages grace and balance.
Jazz dance classes are casual and relaxed, which is reflected in the clothing worn. A
d~ncer's body lines need to be visible however, so baggy clothes are generally
discouraged. Tights and leotards are fine but most jazz dancars preier to 'NE:ar jazz or
dance pants. Jazz pants are usually boot-cut or flared stylns, as tight bottoms would
restrict ankle movements. Tops usually worn for jazz dane-<l include form ftiting tank-tops,
T-shirts and leotards. Requirements for jazz shoes vary, <.J9pending en the class you
attend.
A good jazz dance class explodes with energy. Witi1 mi.!s:c styles ranging from hip-hop to
show tunes, the beat alone will get you moving. Mosi: jazz d,mce teachers begin with a
~horo~gh wami-up. They then lead the class in a series of stretching exercises and
isolation movements. Isolations involve movi119 one part of the body while the rest of the
bod~ remains still. Jazz dancers also ~ri)ctise t~,e art of suspension. Suspension involves
:ovrng thr?ugh positions instead 01' stopping and balancing in them. Most jazz dance
achers will end the class with a short cool down to help prevent muscle soreness.

'What island?' Mary said, and, as if in answer, the trees on the right thinned out and they could
see water beyond, covered in a bright green weed, like a curiy mat. 30
'It's an artificial lake,' Simon explained. 'There used to be a big house on the other side but it
burned down ages ago, and the people went away and never came back.. .'
The path came down to the lake and it was easier walking now. They turned a bend and saw the
