1. Introduction

The RLSE Temporary School Extension is a 2,210 sq/m temporary educational facility commissioned by
Rashid & Latifa Schools Establishment, constructed by Modular General Contracting LLC under the
consultancy of Engr. Adnan Saffirini Office. This method statement outlines the procedures for installing
aluminium windows and doors in compliance with Dubai Municipality Building Regulations (DM-Section
08000 – Fenestration), UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice (2023 Edition), and project specifications.
The objective is to ensure the safe, precise, and durable installation of aluminium fenestration systems,
providing weatherproofing, security, and aesthetic integrity for the temporary structure.

2. Scope of Work

The scope includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of aluminium windows and doors, covering:

 Materials: Anodized or powder-coated aluminium frames, double-glazed glass units, and stainless-
steel hardware (handles, hinges, locks).
 Installation: Fitting frames into pre-prepared openings, sealing, glazing, and hardware attachment.

 Integration: Coordination with structural elements and external cladding systems.

 Testing: Operational checks, water tightness tests, and final inspections.

 Compliance: Adherence to Dubai Municipality’s acoustic, thermal, and safety standards.

3. References

 Dubai Municipality Building Regulations (DM-Section 08000 – Fenestration).

 UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice (2023 Edition).

 Approved architectural and structural drawings.

 ASTM E283 (Air Leakage Testing) and BS 6375 (Performance of Windows and Doors).

4. Roles and Responsibilities

 Project Manager: Oversees material procurement, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.

 Site Engineer: Supervises alignment, installation quality, and compliance with DM standards.

 QA/QC Engineer: Inspects frame integrity, sealant application, and hardware functionality.

 Safety Officer: Ensures PPE compliance, monitors working-at-height protocols, and conducts risk
assessments.

 Installation Team: Skilled technicians for handling, positioning, and fixing frames and glazing.
5. Materials and Equipment

 Materials:

o Frames: Thermal-break aluminium profiles (DM-approved, 6063-T5 alloy).

o Glazing: 6mm tempered glass with 12mm argon-filled cavity for double-glazed units.

o Hardware: Stainless steel hinges, multi-point locks, and handles (EN 1670 corrosion-
resistant).

o Sealants: Silicone-based weatherproof sealant (compatible with aluminium and masonry).

 Tools: Laser levels, electric screwdrivers, torque wrenches, suction lifters, and mobile scaffolds.

 PPE: Safety harnesses, gloves, helmets, and non-slip footwear.

6. Site Preparation

1. Opening Inspection:

o Verify window/door openings for dimensional accuracy (width, height, and squareness) using
laser levels.

o Rectify deviations in masonry or structural supports prior to installation.

2. Material Handling:

o Store frames vertically on padded racks to prevent scratches or warping.

o Protect glass units with edge protectors and store in shaded areas.
7. Installation Procedure

1. Frame Positioning:

o Place the aluminium frame into the opening using suction lifters or mechanical hoists for large
units.

o Temporarily secure frames with wooden wedges, ensuring a uniform 10mm gap for thermal
expansion.

2. Fixing:

o Anchor frames to structural supports using stainless steel brackets and M10 expansion bolts at
400mm intervals.

o Check plumb and level with laser equipment; adjust as needed.

3. Sealing:

o Apply silicone sealant to the perimeter gap between the frame and opening. Tool the sealant
for a smooth finish.

4. Glazing Installation:

o Insert double-glazed units into frame rebates using EPDM gaskets. Secure with aluminium
beads and snap-on covers.

5. Hardware Attachment:

o Install handles, hinges, and multi-point locks as per manufacturer guidelines. Adjust hinges for
smooth operation.
6. Operational Testing:

o Open and close doors/windows to verify alignment and ease of movement.

8. Quality Control

1. Alignment Checks:

o Frames must not deviate >3mm from plumb or level over 2m height (DM tolerance standards).

2. Water Tightness Test:

o Conduct a water spray test (BS 6375) for 15 minutes to confirm no ingress at joints or seals.

3. DM Inspection:

o Submit test reports and request final approval before concealing perimeter gaps.

9. Safety Measures

 Fall Protection: Safety harnesses and guardrails mandatory for installations above 1.5m.

 Glass Handling: Use suction lifters and edge protectors to prevent breakage.

 Tool Safety: Ground electrical tools and certify operators for hoisting equipment.

 Emergency Kits: First aid stations and glass spill kits accessible onsite.

10. Risk Assessment Summary

 Glass Breakage: Mitigated via edge protection and trained handling.

 Falling Objects: Controlled through secure anchoring of frames and tools.

 Improper Sealing: Addressed by QA inspections and silicone compatibility checks.

11. Environmental Management

 Waste Recycling: Recycle aluminum offcuts and packaging via DM-approved facilities.

 Dust Control: Use vacuum attachments during drilling to minimize airborne particles.

12. Emergency Procedures

 Glass Breakage: Evacuate the area, contain shards using spill kits, and dispose in designated
containers.

 Injuries: Administer first aid; escalate to Rashid Hospital (04-337 4000) for critical cases.

13. Conclusion

This method statement ensures the RLSE Temporary School Extension’s aluminum windows and doors are
installed to Dubai Municipality’s stringent standards, combining durability, safety, and energy efficiency.
Through meticulous planning, quality assurance, and adherence to safety protocols, the project delivers a
compliant and visually cohesive temporary facility.
