The 210 and 340 of the DMU P/FD
and DMC U/FD series.
The strengths of the 210 and 340 Universal Milling Centres become immediately
evident for large workpieces that need to be manufactured in series such as in heavy
tool and mould making, large automotive, prototype or fixture manufacture, as well
as many applications in the aerospace industry.
This generation of large-scale machines provides ambitious users of Mega-
Milling Centres machines that are both all-purpose and highly productive. Heavy
and bulky workpieces manufactured in series can be completely machined in
a single setup with 5-sided and / or in 5-axis operation. The FD configuration also
makes turning applications possible at speeds of up to 250 rpm.
The 210 and 340 machines of the DMU P / FD and DMC U / FD series are well
proven and will clearly redefine your production of large, difficult and bulky workpieces.

The optimal machine design for large


workpieces: The gantry design.
The 210 and 340 series machines are engineered on the solid basis of the tried and
tested portal design with vertical guidways and the rigid FEM-optimised machine
bed with three-point support.
The thermo-symmetric construction with liquid-cooled ball screw drives and
cooled feed motors in all axes ensures long service life. The direct transmission of
power leads to high chip removal performance at maximum sturdiness.
Due to the rigid machine construction with three-point support, no special
machine foundation is required, and the Mega-Milling Centres can be installed
and put in to production quickly and easily.

The DMU 210 P.
Although compact in overall dimensions, the DMU 210 P features a large work area of
almost 5 m3 that is designed with perfect ergonomics and allowing a table load of up to
8 t (higher load upon request). Highlights of this machine design are the platform that
encircles the entire machine, a second control panel at the tool changer, the vertically
traversable crossbeam, as well as cabinet enclosures designed to optimise chip disposal
and overall ease-of-operation. The NC rotary table, combined with the automatic swivel
milling head in the standard version, permits 5-sided complete machining. Whether you
chose an NC-controlled B or A-axis swivel head or the 5X torqueMASTER® power
spindle as a B-axis with transmission, each configuration allows for simultaneous 5-axis
milling. The optional aerospace motor spindle delivers a chip removal rate of up to
10,000 cm3/min.
Digitally-controlled feed drives with rapid traverse speeds up to 60 m/min and
excellent acceleration values, as well as tool changers with double grippers for the
re-duction of production and idle-times, are additional features of a machining centre

DMU 340 P Unimould:


New standards in 5-axis mould making.
With its size, the DMU 340 P Unimould sets new standards for mould manufactur-
ing. With travels of 2,800 x 3,400 x 1,600 mm, it belongs to one of the Giga-Milling
Machines from DECKEL MAHO and allows machining of heavy workpieces with
weights up to 16 t (optionally 20 t). The NC rotary table and the universal swivel milling
head with a driven B-axis, make the DMU 340 P Unimould suitable for 5-sided and up
to 5-axis simultaneous milling.
Apart from the standard-equipped SK50 motor spindle with 44 kW and 10,000 rpm,
there are options for a 12,000 rpm motor spindle, a powerful 5X torqueMASTER®
with 1,550 Nm and an aerospace motor spindle with 15,000 rpm and a chip removal

mould Universal Machining Centers come with an array of impressive high-tech
features that can be expanded with customized automation options at any time.
These include universal milling heads with integrated 44 kW motor spindles, tool
changers with double grippers, tool magazines with 60 pockets and process-opti-
mising production packages. Just as individual industrial sectors have varying
demands, the configuration of these machines can also be adapted to meet each

Precision workpiece manufacturing

DMU 210 P and DMC 210 U
The DMU 210 P and DMC 210 U machines are the smallest in the gantry-design
series, with traverse paths of 1,800 x 2,100 x 1,250 mm. Their impressive standard
equipment and numerous expansion options make them ideally suited for the manu-
facturing of precision workpieces. In the standard version, the DMU 210 P and
DMC 210 U comes with an automatic swivel milling head, an integrated motor spin-
dle with a maximum rotational speed of 10,000 rpm and 288 Nm torque, as well
as a production package consisting of 980-l coolant tank, internal coolant supply
(40 bar) as well as a spin window and chip conveyor.
The central aim of the continued development of the machine was the systematic
expansion of an already impressive range of options. To name just a few examples:
the 5x torqueMASTER® spindle with a rotational speed of 6,300 rpm and 1,550 Nm
torque, the universal milling head with a controlled A or B-axis, and an application
package for highly precise machining with coolant temperature control.

The DMC 210 U is orientated towards automation, for high-volume serial


production in the heavy-duty machining sector: it is equipped with a produc-
tivity-improving pallet changer with two pallets, which allows setup parallel
to production time – a unique feature in this machine class. Optionally, the
RS3 rotary magazine with 3 additional pallets can be considered.

DMU 340 P / DMC 340 U: Re-defining


the manufacturing of large workpieces.
The new DMU 340 P and DMC 340 U Giga-Milling Centers are based on the same
gantry design as the machines of the 210 series. Nevertheless, these machines set
new productivity- and precision standards for complete machining of workpieces with
weights up to 16 t (optionally 20 t) with traverse paths of 2,800 mm in X, 3,400 mm in
Y, and 1,600 in Z. Their unique features include rapid traverse speeds up to 60 m/min,
chip-to-chip times of 15 sec. and shelf magazines up to 240 tools. The standard ver-
sion comes with a production package including a 2,500 l coolant tank and internal
coolant supply (40 Bar) plus a chip conveyor unit.
In terms of design and technology, the DMC 340 U is the exact equivalent of the
DMU 340 P, but it has been expanded with a productivity-increasing pallet changing
system for flexible serial production. The NC-rotary table (2,000 x 2,500 mm clamping
area and 10 t table load) plus a fully automatic pallet changer, allows flexible setup
parallel to production time. Two pallets (optionally four) can be placed in the maga-
zine positions or in the setup area.

Get twice the performance in


a single setup: DMU/DMC 210 FD
and DMU/DMC 340 FD.
With the Milling / Turning Centres, DECKEL MAHO combines two technologies in
a single machine. With a single setup, a workpiece can be machined in a 5-sided
and / or 5-axis milling application, as well as a turning application, and all of this for
workpiece weights up to 7 t (DMU 340 FD). This complete solution not only saves
money and time, but also achieves greater flexibility and more precise results.
The new “turning” NC rotary table is the component that combines turning
and milling by becoming a DirectDrive table with 50 kW in the 210 class and 59 kW
in the 340 class. With table rotational speeds of 250 rpm, a torque of 7,900 Nm or
10,800 Nm, and a holding torque of 10,000 Nm, this highly productive unit
masters a previously unattainable range of horizontal and vertical milling / turning
applications.
In addition, these machines are fully functional milling machines and in no way
inferior to machines designed exclusively for milling.

tool magazine and a production package including a chip conveyor, coolant tank and
internal coolant supply (40 bar), the DMU 210 P, DMC 210 U, DMU 340 P, DMC 340 U
machines and their respective turning / milling variations come with a wide range
of additional expansion options. As a result, every machine becomes a customer-
specific all-round solution.
Depending on your individual needs, you can choose between a motor spindle
with 12,000 rpm, 18,000 rpm, or the aerospace spindle with 15,000 rpm and 100 kW
for maximum chip removal output, as well as the 5X torqueMASTER® with 44 kW
output and a torque of 1,550 Nm. To mention only a few of the many additional
options for the gantry series, these include a shelf magazine for up to 240 tools,
