Transcripts

4. Listening comprehension

Speaker: Pet Crazy

Speaker: It is no secret that the UK is a pet-loving nation with dogs being the most popular choice
followed closely by cats. In 2022, it is estimated that more than half of UK households
owned a pet. With the constant rise in pet numbers, spending on pet food, products, and
services has also increased. In 2022, spending reached over nine billion British pounds.
With new ideas and products constantly appearing, how far will pet owners show their
love to their furry friends?

Speaker: Let’s look at some popular trends at the moment.

Speaker: 1) Get your pet their very own high-quality, luxurious bed. They come in all shapes and
sizes to ensure the best night’s sleep.

Speaker: 2) Grooming has been popular for a while but used to consist of a wash, haircut, and
nail trim. However, nowadays there are extensive services to pamper your pet including;
polished nails, coloured fur, and massages.

Speaker: 3) When you go on holiday, you can now check your pup into their own hotel. Dog hotels
provide different types of accommodation, twenty-four-hour professional care, quality
food, and lots of playtime.

Speaker: Some airlines are pet-friendly but there is a new airline in the sky called Bark Air which is
dedicated to dog travel. Dogs no longer need to travel in crates in the hold below. They are
also given treats, comfortable seats, and calming products to ensure a safe, and comfortable
journey.
