LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE
PASTOR ACHA FRIDAY
Matthew 5: 14 – 16 KJV
Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a
candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
The reason for the lighting the candlestick is so that it gives light to all that
are in the house.
Matthew 5:14-16
Living Bible
14
You are the world’s light—a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. 15-
16
Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see,
so that they will praise your heavenly Father.
Matthew 5:14-16
The Message
14-16
“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-
colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as
public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to
hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put
you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with
your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this
generous Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
Easy-to-Read Version
14
“You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill
that cannot be hidden. 15 People don’t hide a lamp under a bowl. They put it on a
lampstand. Then the light shines for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, you
should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do
and praise your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
14
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15
Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand,
and it gives light to all in the house.
16
Let your light so shine before men that they may see your [a]moral
excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds
and [b]recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
SOME KEY POINTS TO NOTE
I. The believer in Christ is ALREADY the light of the world. Not that we will be
the light, we are already the light of the world.
We are not trying to become light or be the light
We didn’t become light by any effort of our own.
God made us light when we came to Christ. Christ is the light, so in Him, we
become the light.
We are God’s light-bearers
II. We have been strategically placed in the place where we have the advantage
Everywhere we find ourselves, we must understand that in Christ we have
the advantage always.
God so designed the systems that all things are meant to eventually work for
our good. Ask Joseph, even the prison was to his advantage, the pit worked
out for his good.
Men like Daniel and the three Hebrew men knew this truth, that even in the
shadow of death, God will work out things for his glory through our
experiences.
These truths will make you see the best of God even in the worst situations
we go through. If God allows you go through certain situations, you know its
for your good and for his glory.
III. We have been designed by God to create global impact
Every child of God is called to impact the world for our Lord Jesus Christ. And
you understand that every working of the Lord in your life, as long as you
learn to follow him, will be to bring you to that place where through you,
nations of the earth are blessed.
This is the Abrahamic blessings and covenant. God said to Abraham, I will
bless you and through you, nations of the earth shall be blessed.
When we learn to follow God, we understand that he has designed us to
make impact globally.
The believer’s life should be a life of impact and influence.
We are to impact systems, nations, communities. We are to bring forth
Kingdom influence into where ever the Lord leads us into.
IV. You are responsible to shine you light
From the scripture, we see three things that God did for us in Christ: He
made us light; he positioned us in the place of the advantage, and designed
us to create global impact, but then we find just one responsibility for us,
SHINE.
That is no matter all the things God has done for us and put in us, we will
determine weather we shine as light or no.
Yes, we are expected to shine, but it is still our responsibility to shine or not
to shine.
We have been created unto good works as God’s workmanship.
Let’s look at some scriptures
Eph 2:10 KJV For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,
which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Eph 2:10 ERV God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new
people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already
planned for us to do.
➢ We are God’s workmanship
➢ We are created in Christ Jesus unto good works
➢ God had ordained from the foundations of the earth that we walk in
1Pe_2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a
peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you
out of darkness into his marvellous light:
WE ARE EXPECTED TO SHINE AS LIGHT
Matthew 5: 14 – 16 KJV
Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a
candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
➢ We are to shine forth our light in all seven mountains of influence where
God places you.
➢ The church is to shine forth our light in the following mountains where you
discover God has positioned you.
The Seven Mountains of Influence are the main areas of culture that help a society
function. They are:
• Business: The economic sphere
• Arts and entertainment: The cultural sphere
• Media: The communication sphere
• Government: The political sphere
• Family: The social sphere
• Education: The intellectual sphere
• Religion: The spiritual sphere
Let’s go all out of this conference and begin to shine as light in THAT MOUNTAIN
WHERE YOU FIND YOURSELF.
