DPP (Coulombs Law and Superposition Principle)

The document consists of various problems related to electrostatics, including charge equilibrium, forces between charged particles, and the effects of distance and medium on electric forces. It poses questions about the placement and charge types needed for equilibrium, calculations of forces between specific charges, and the conditions for stability in electrostatic interactions. Additionally, it explores the effects of connecting charged particles and the resulting forces, as well as the determination of missing electrons in ions.

1.Figure shows two charge particles on an axis .The charges are free to move .At one point ,
however , a third charged particle can be placed such that all three particles are in equilibrium.
(a)Is that point to the left of the first two particles , to their right , or between them?
(b) Should the third particle be positively or negatively charged ?
(c )Is the equilibrium stable or unstable?

2.Find the force on a charge q1 (20 micro C) due to the charge q2(-10 micro C) if the positions of
the charges are given as P(1.-1, 2) and Q(-1,1,1)

3.Four equal point charges , each of magnitude +Q, are to be placed in equilibrium at the
corners of a square. What should be the magnitude and sign of the point charge that should be
placed at the centre of the square to do this job?
4.A particle of mass m carrying a charge -q1 starts moving around a fixed charge +q2 along a
circular path of radius r .Find the time period of revolution T of charge -q1
5.Two point electric charges of value q and 2q are kept at a distance d apart from each other in
air .A third charge Q is to be kept along the same line in such a way that the net force acting on
q and 2 q is zero.Find the location of the third charge from charge q.
6.Two identical particles are charged and held at a distance of 1 m from each other .They are
found to be attracting each other with force of 0.027 N .Now, they are connected by a
conducting wire so that the charge flow stops, they are found to be repelling each other with a
force of 0.009 N .Find the initial charge on each particle.
7.The electrostatic force of repulsion between two positively charged ions carrying equal charge
is 3.7 ×10-9N .When these are seperated by a distance of 5 Angstorm. How many electrons are
missing from each ion?
8.Ten positively charged particles are kept fixed on the x-axis at points x= 10cm,20cm,
30cm…….100 cm.The first particle has a charge 1.0 × 10-8C, the second 8×10-8C , the third
27×10-8 and so on .The tenth particle has a charge 1000× 10-8C..Find the magnitude of the
electric force acting on a 1 C charge placed at the origin.
