B0700HB – Rev C Preface

xvi
1. Basic Workstation Setup
This chapter identifies the basic parts of specific H92 workstation and explains how to
determine which interface cards and internal/external drives are used with each workstation.
This chapter contains all the information necessary to set up the H92 workstation with the
Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB operating system. Before performing any procedures in this
document, you must determine the following information about your workstation:
♦ Number of monitors used with the workstation
♦ Amount of RAM installed (4 GB default)
♦ Size of internal system hard drive
♦ Type of Ethernet card(s) (if present)
♦ Available I/O interface cards (if present)
The H92 workstations are shipped preconfigured from Schneider Electric with all cards, internal
hard drives, and Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB operating system.
The following sections describe how to determine this information about your workstation.

Determining Your Workstation Configuration

You can determine basic information about your workstation from the H-Code.
H-Code is a production code used to identify a machine and its hardware configuration. The
H-Code can be found on a label on the top of the H92 workstation as shown in Figure 1-2. The
label is illustrated in Figure 1-1. The information found on this label lets you identify:
♦ H-Code for your workstation
♦ Style type (H92*D/A) (ignore the revision level)

NOTE
If you are unable to locate your H-Code, or you have made modifications to your
machine without updating the H-Code, contact 1-866-746-6477 or, outside the
U.S., 508-549-2424 for assistance.

NOTE
Now that you have determined the necessary component information for your H92
workstation, you can proceed with the instructions provided in this document.

1. Basic Workstation Setup B0700HB – Rev C

NOTE
It is inadvisable to disconnect the digital video cables from the NVIDIA NVS 310,
NVS 450, or NVS 510 graphics card during operations on a running system.
Disconnecting the cable from either the computer end or the monitor end will
cause video resolution problems. The NVIDIA graphics card will dynamically reset
the driver configuration, resulting in a video frame buffer size that exceeds the
monitor resolution. Disconnecting the video cable on a running system will have a
negative effect on the operation of the H92 workstation.
This will be repeated again in the document to advise you of potential negative
conditions.

NOTE
It is inadvisable to disconnect the fiber cable from the Matrox Remote Graphics
Unit on a running system. If the fiber cable is disconnected either from the PCIe
card mounted in the computer or the Remote Graphics Unit interface box on an
operating and running system, reconnecting the fiber cable to either component
will not provide video functionality. To restore video functionality, you must reboot
the system with the fiber cable attached correctly.

Your H92 workstation is shipped with the configuration that you ordered. If you determine that
you need to upgrade any interface cards or other hardware, see Chapter 2 “Installing Hardware
Upgrades” prior to installing any software.

Setting CMOS BIOS Parameters

NOTE
H92 workstations are customized to operate correctly with Control Core Services
from Schneider Electric. These changes involve BIOS settings, operating system
parameters, and application services.

The CMOS BIOS parameters vary slightly, depending on which configuration of peripherals you
are using. The following procedure indicates which parameters differ and provides the required
settings for each workstation. These settings are configured at the Schneider Electric factory.
Proceed as follows to check and configure the setup parameters for the CMOS BIOS for your
H92 workstation.
1. After turning on the workstation, press the Esc key for the Startup Menu, then press
F10 to enter the workstation’s BIOS setup.
2. The first BIOS settings page opens. Under File > Set Time and Date, set the
current time and date.

NOTE
Refer to the following if using the USB annunciator keyboard(s):
1. If a hub/extension device is used, confirm it has the ability to source the 5 V
power for up to four USB annunciator keyboards (i.e., 5 V dc @ 500 mA per USB
port).
2. For instructions on wiring connections to the USB annunciator keyboard’s
termination block, refer to USB-Based Annunciator Keyboard User's Guide
(B0700FT).

If you are using a touchscreen as an input device, refer to “Touchscreen Cabling Connections” on
page 19 below.
If you have connected a USB annunciator keyboard to this station, you must slip the labels to the
keys on the keyboard under their clear shields as described in “USB Annunciator Keyboard Label
Preparation” below.

18
1. Basic Workstation Setup B0700HB – Rev C

USB Annunciator Keyboard Label Preparation

The USB annunciator keyboards are shipped with a configuration application (FoxHPC) which
can configure and print out labels to identify each lamp/switch pair key. The label for each key
must be placed under a clear cover in the key. Refer to USB-Based Annunciator Keyboard User's
Guide (B0700FT) for instructions on configuring these labels and printing them on your printer’s
standard paper.
Perform the following steps to prepare and install the labels.
1. Print the desired labeling information on the desired paper as discussed in USB-Based
Annunciator Keyboard User's Guide (B0700FT).
2. With a pair of scissors, cut out the labels from the printed sheet. Confirm that each
label is cut small enough that it can fit under the clear plastic cover of each key.
3. For each key, carefully pull out the clear plastic shield on top of the key. It may be
useful to expose a corner of the clear shield by pulling it free from the rubber
moulding of the key, and then using that corner as a lever to remove the clear shield
from the key.
4. Put the label in the recess left empty by the shield.
5. Slip the clear shield back into its recess in the key.
6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for each remaining key.

Touchscreen Cabling Connections

USB interface touchscreens were introduced with the model P77*N monitors and continue to the
present time. The former serial interface touchscreens connected to the GCIO modules are not
supported in systems with Control Core Services v9.4 and later.
Proceed as follows:
♦ If you are configuring a local USB touchscreen, make the connections shown in
Figure 1-9. Refer to Table 1-4 for descriptions and lengths of the cables in each cable
group referenced in the diagram.
♦ If you are using a remote USB touchscreen as an input device, install the USB
extender kit, as shown in Figure 1-9 and Figure 1-10. Refer to Table 1-5 for
descriptions and lengths of the cables in each cable group referenced in the diagram.

B0700HB – Rev C 1. Basic Workstation Setup

Video Connections
The H92 workstation default video card is a PCIexpress x16 NVIDIA NVS 310. Two Display
Port to DVI video adapter cables are supplied with the video card. See Figure 1-11 and
Figure 1-12.
The H92 workstation can use any of the following cards for display output:
♦ Dual PCIexpress Card Display port/DVI Video Generator (default)
♦ Quad PCIexpress Card Display port/DVI Video Generator (optional)
♦ Dual PCIexpress Card VGA/DVI Video Generator (optional)
♦ Quad PCIexpress Card VGA Video Generator (optional)
♦ RGU Dual, Quad RGU (optional)

NOTE
The default configuration of the Z420 workstation is Digital Video only, and does
not support extended video cable lengths.

NOTE
It is inadvisable to disconnect the digital video cables from the NVIDIA NVS 310,
NVS 450, or NVS 510 graphics card during system operations on a running
system. Disconnecting the cable from either the computer end or the monitor end
will cause video resolution problems. The NVIDIA graphics card will dynamically
reset the driver configuration, resulting in a video frame buffer size that exceeds the
monitor resolution. Disconnecting the video cable on a running system will have a
negative effect on the operation of the H92 workstation.

NOTE
The H92 workstation does not work with the Command Center side-arm mounted
monitor P0930DH.

The integrated NIC should only be used for a corporate or secondary network
connectivity. It is inadvisable to use the on-board NIC connection for Foxboro
DCS Control Systems connections.

35
B0700HB – Rev C 1. Basic Workstation Setup

NOTE
The Network Interface Cards (NICs) of the workstation that are used for the
Control Network has to not be disabled from the Network Connections tool, or
from any other application in the Windows operating system. The Foxboro DCS
control system remains active and online during system stress. Manual
disconnection of the workstation from the Control Network can disturb the
resiliency of the operating system. It is inadvisable for a workstation that connects
to the Control Network to be offline, asleep, or in a state of hibernation. When the
NICs connecting to the Control Network are disabled or placed offline by the
operating system, the intermediate card driver becomes unstable and the system
may stop responding. It is inadvisable to turn off the NICs that connect to the
Control Network.

Connecting to The Control Network

In a Control Network with Control Core Services v9.4 or later, H92 workstations are connected
to the network with Allied Telesis™ copper or fiber-optic Ethernet Network Interface Cards
(NICs).
The copper or fiber NICs installed in the H92 workstation connect the workstation to the
Ethernet switches in the Control Network. It is recommended that you connect the workstation
to two different switches in the Control Network to provide redundant data signal paths and keep
a single point from rendering the system unavailable.
How the H92 workstation connects to an Ethernet switch in the Control Network depends on
the type of switch and the Ethernet cards installed in the H92. A H92 workstation can be
connected directly to an Ethernet switch RJ-45 copper port via CAT5 cabling, or to an Ethernet
switch MT-RJ fiber-optic port via fiber-optic cabling. A media converter can also be used to
connect a workstation with a copper NIC to an Ethernet switch’s fiber-optic port and vice versa.
For additional information and detailed instructions on connecting workstations and other
components to the Control Network, refer to The Foxboro Evo Control Network Architecture Guide
(B0700AZ).

RAID Configuration
The H92 supports internal RAID (redundant array of independent drives). RAID 1 “mirroring”
or RAID 1 with a hot spare to provide additional levels of hard drive redundancy in case of hard
drive becoming unavailable. Other RAID configurations are not recommended for use with
Control Core Services. Drives are not hot swappable. The workstation must be shut down to
replace unavailable drives and rebuild the RAID set.
If you ordered your H92 with RAID, it has been configured at the factory. Parts are available to
replace an unavailable drive or to upgrade to RAID in the field. See Chapter 2 “Installing Hard-
ware Upgrades”
There are two ways to administer the RAID configuration. Use the Intel Matrix Storage Manager
utility (CTRL-I) when you start up the computer. Alternatively, you can use the Intel Rapid
Storage Technology Installer after the operating system has been loaded to install the Intel Rapid
Storage Technology program. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology software is installed on the
H92 workstation image DVD.

NOTICE
POTENTIAL DATA LOSS

The conversion of a non-RAID system to a RAID based system is a

destructive process. All data on the current single hard drive will be
lost during this process. This drive information should be backed-up
prior to converting to a RAID system.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in data loss.

NOTE
If you choose to use the Intel Matrix Storage Manager ROM utility, it is
recommended that the drives be of equal size. In a RAID configuration, when using
drives of different sizes, the size of the configuration will be the smaller of the two
drives.

3. Image Recovery, Windows 10
Enterprise 2016 LTSB Operating
System
This chapter describes how to install the Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB operating system
on this specific H92 workstation, using the “image recovery” method.

Image Recovery Notes

Be aware of these notes before attempting image recovery.

NOTE
Prior to performing this restoration (installation) of the Windows 10 Enterprise
2016 LTSB operating system, you must install all hardware and connect all cabling to
the workstation, as described in Chapter 1 “Basic Workstation Setup”.

NOTE
H92 workstations are customized to operate correctly with Control Core Services
from Schneider Electric. These changes involve BIOS settings, operating system
parameters, and application services.

NOTE
For client workstations in a Foxboro DCS system with the Control Software
installed on them, be aware that the local security databases on the client
workstations are synchronized to the security database of the Galaxy server when
the “Refresh History and Security Database” operation is performed from the
ArchestrA IDE application. However, if a client workstation in this system is down
while this operation is running on the other workstations, the client workstation
will not be able to synchronize its local security database when it starts up. The
InFusion Security Provider will be generating Trace messages containing the
following text: “Reset In Progress, receive no data. Sequence
Number:0”. Restart the InFusionSyncService service on the Galaxy server to enable
the client workstation to synchronize its local security database.

NOTE
If installing a Galaxy database on your workstation, prior to any installation or
restoration on the workstation, the time zone, time, and date have to be set. Set and
synchronize the Galaxy as soon as the operating system is restored.

49
B0700HB – Rev C 3. Image Recovery, Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB Operating System

NOTE
In some cases, restoring the image of a client workstation with the Control Software
installed on it can cause the client’s security subsystem to stop updating the local
security database on the client. It is recommended that you create and restore
images on all the Control Software workstations (Galaxy and client) at the same
time. If this is not practical, refer to Table 3-1 for recovery recommendations from
problematic workflows.

These sections describe the complete Control Core Services configuration specifically designed
for the H92 workstations. To determine your workstation’s H-Code, refer to “Determining Your
Workstation Configuration” on page 1. These instructions do not apply to any other
Workstations.

NOTE
Be aware of the following
1. The H92 HP Z420 with Windows 10 operating system is qualified to run
Control Core Services v9.4 or later. Control Core Services v9.3 and earlier are not
supported with this operating system.
2. Refer to the release-specific installation guide or release notes documentation for
additional details on installing Control Core Services.

NOTE
For installations with a Control Network, do not install Control Core Services
before the workstation has been connected to the Control Network. Refer to
Chapter 1 “Basic Workstation Setup” to determine how to physically connect your
workstation to the Control Network.

B0700HB – Rev C 7. Installing Control Core Services

NOTE
It is now an option to use a USB floppy disk drive to input System Definition
Commit data to perform Control Core Services installations is now optional. If you
are using a floppy diskette to input the Commit data for Control Core Services
installation, confirm that the USB floppy disk drive is plugged into the server
before you start the Control Core Services installation process.
If the USB disk drive is not plugged into the server and the Commit disk is
requested by the Control Core Services installation program, a system message
displaying Floppy drive not available appears. This closes the installation program
and all the system messages are recorded in a log file. This forces re-imaging of the
operating system and a fresh start of the Control Core Services installation.

Installing Control Core Services V9.4 and Later

Installation for Control Core Services is documented in these manuals:
♦ Control Core Services v9.4
♦ Control Core Services v9.4 Software Installation Guide (B0700SX)
♦ Control Core Services v9.4 Release Notes (B0700SY)
Follow the installation instructions associated with that release.

NOTE
To restore the Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB operating system, you must
perform the steps described in Chapter 3 “Image Recovery, Windows 10 Enterprise
2016 LTSB Operating System” of this document.

Recommendations
It is recommended that you perform these tasks once you complete Control Core Services system
installation:
♦ Use the Reconcile media to update the system configuration files using the
System Definition Reconcile utility. Refer to System Definition: A Step-By-Step
Procedure (B0193WQ) or System Definition online Help for procedures.
