CLEANER SE –11
Issue 2 of 08.07.2002
Replaces Issue 1 of 29.01.2002
CLEANER SE –11 is a general purpose electrolytic and soak cleaner and has got very
good detergent action. The Cleaner is formulated such that there is little or no attack on
steel, Copper, Copper Alloys, Zinc base alloys, Lead and Silver.
CLEANER SE-11 can be used as a soak and electrolytic Cleaner. This is designed to
perform as a medium duty alkaline cleaner which cannot be used for removing heavy
accumulations of oil, grease and buffing compounds.

PERPARATION
Fill an M.S. tank with 2/3rd full of soft water. Add the required amount of Cleaner SE-11
and stir well to dissolve the material. Fill to working level and heat to operating
temperature.
OPERATION
The work to be cleaned is simply immersed in the cleaner with or without the use of
electric current. Cleaner SE-11 can be used first as a soak cleaner and then as an
electrolytic cleaner and this can be accomplished by using one or two tanks. Moreover
Cleaner SE-11 can be used as a Cathodic or Anodic Cleaner depending on the nature of
the metal to be cleaned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
METAL Concentration Polarity C.D Time
gm/l A/dm2
1. Steel 50-80 Anodic 5-8 1.5 minutes
2. Copper 50-70 Anodic 4-6 1-2 minutes
3. Brass
First Cathodic followed 50-60 Cathodic 2-4 1-2 minutes
By Anodic 50-50 Anodic 1-2 5-20 minutes
4. Lead and Silver 50-55 Cathodic 1-2 5-20 minutes
5. Zinc and Zinc base alloys 50-55 Anodic 2-4 20-40 seconds
NOTE
Item 3,4,5 are to be cleaned primarily by soak cleaning in CLEANER SE-11 before
proceeding to Electrolytic cleaning. For Zinc and Zinc base alloys the major portion of the
cleaning should be performed by soak cleaning and electrolytic cleaning is meant only for
activating the surface and removing the last traces of soil and precleaner residues.
EQUIPMENT
A plain steel tank can be used for keeping the cleaner. The tank should be provided with
heating arrangement, anode and cathode rods and direct current source with resistance
board.
MAINTENANCE
The concentration of Cleaner SE-11 can be determined by titration with standard acid by
using methyl red as an indicator.
