Grade8_Formula_Sheet

The document provides a formula sheet for Grade 8 covering the area and perimeter of various plane figures such as circles, triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, and trapeziums. It also includes the surface area and volume formulas for 3D shapes like prisms, pyramids, cylinders, and cones, along with examples for each. Additionally, it outlines the number of faces, vertices, and edges for different 3D shapes.

Grade 8 Formula Sheet

1. Area and Perimeter of Plane Figures

Circle
• Area: A = πr²
• Circumference: C = 2πr

Example: If r = 7 cm, then Area = π(7)² = 49π cm² and Circumference = 2π(7) = 14π cm.

Triangle
• Area: A = ½ × base × height
• Perimeter: P = sum of all sides

Example: If base = 6 cm, height = 4 cm, then Area = ½ × 6 × 4 = 12 cm².

Rectangle
• Area: A = length × width
• Perimeter: P = 2(length + width)

Example: If length = 5 cm and width = 3 cm, then Area = 5 × 3 = 15 cm², Perimeter = 2(5+3)
= 16 cm.

Parallelogram
• Area: A = base × height
• Perimeter: P = 2(base + side)

Example: If base = 8 cm, height = 5 cm, then Area = 8 × 5 = 40 cm².

Trapezium
• Area: A = ½ × (a + b) × height
• Perimeter: P = sum of all sides

Example: If a = 6 cm, b = 4 cm, height = 5 cm, then Area = ½ × (6 + 4) × 5 = 25 cm².

2. Surface Area and Volume of 3D Shapes

Right Prism
• Surface Area: SA = 2 × Base Area + Perimeter × Height

• Volume: V = Base Area × Height

Example: If base area = 10 cm², perimeter = 14 cm, height = 5 cm, then SA = 2(10) + 14(5) =
90 cm², Volume = 10 × 5 = 50 cm³.
Pyramid
• Surface Area: SA = Base Area + ½ × Perimeter × Slant Height

• Volume: V = ⅓ × Base Area × Height

Example: If base area = 16 cm², perimeter = 12 cm, slant height = 5 cm, height = 6 cm, then
SA = 16 + ½(12×5) = 46 cm², Volume = ⅓ × 16 × 6 = 32 cm³.

Cylinder
• Surface Area: SA = 2πr(h + r)

• Volume: V = πr²h

Example: If r = 3 cm, h = 7 cm, then SA = 2π(3)(7+3) = 60π cm², Volume = π(3²)(7) = 63π
cm³.

Cone
• Surface Area: SA = πr(r + l)

• Volume: V = ⅓πr²h

Example: If r = 4 cm, h = 9 cm, l = 10 cm, then SA = π(4)(4+10) = 56π cm², Volume = ⅓π(4²)
(9) = 48π cm³.

3. Faces, Vertices, and Edges of 3D Shapes

Prism
• Faces = n + 2
• Vertices = 2n
• Edges = 3n

Example: A triangular prism (n=3) has Faces = 5, Vertices = 6, Edges = 9.

Pyramid
• Faces = n + 1
• Vertices = n + 1
• Edges = 2n

Example: A square pyramid (n=4) has Faces = 5, Vertices = 5, Edges = 8.

Cylinder
• Faces = 3 (2 circles + 1 curved surface)
• Vertices = 0
• Edges = 2

Example: A cylinder has Faces = 3, Vertices = 0, Edges = 2.

Cone
• Faces = 2 (1 circle + 1 curved surface)
• Vertices = 1
• Edges = 1

Example: A cone has Faces = 2, Vertices = 1, Edges = 1.
