Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

 Greetings
Good morning class? Good morning, ma’am.

 Checking of attendance
 Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson, let’s
have a short recap about your previous
lesson about translating verbal phrases
into algebraic expression. What must be
considered in translating verbal phrases to
algebraic expression?
We must understand the meaning behind
the words and translating them into their
corresponding mathematical operations.

Very good!

Its seems that you have really mastered

your previous lesson. Mathematically, we
can say that we must carefully to
consider the underlying mathematical
operations, the relationships between
variables and quantities, and the proper
use of key words like "sum," "difference,"
"product," and "quotient" to accurately
represent the information using
appropriate symbols and notation.

 Motivation
Before we proceed to our new lesson, do
you have any clarification class?
None ma’am.
Before we move into a new lesson I have
here envelopes, that contains questions
and the answers, then you will rearrange
the jumbled letters to get the correct
answers.

1. Refers to operations enclosed

within symbols like parentheses
( ), brackets, and braces { }, which
should be solved before other
operations. ROGUIPNG
2. A number shows how many times 1. GROUPINGS
a number is multiplied by 2. EXPONENTS
itself. POEXNTESN 3. MULTIPLICATION
3. An operation that represents the 4. DIVISION
basic idea of repeated addition of 5. ADDITION
the same number. 6. SUBTRACTION
ULMITPILACIONT
4. The process of splitting a number
into equal-sized groups.
IDVIOINS
5. Combining two or more numbers
together to get a new total.
DAIDIOTN
6. The process or skill of taking one
number or amount away from
another. BUSCARTONIT

Very good class.

B. Lesson Proper

 Activity
This time let's have a group activity to
apply our lesson for today. I will Divide
the class into 3 groups. The title of our
activity is “SUB ME IN”. Then you will
find the equivalent value of the given
words by substituting the numerical value
below to each letter of the words and
adding all the numerical digits.

Ex. HUMBLE 1. 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5 = 96

8+21+13+2+12+5 = 61 2. 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 = 98
3. 19+11+9+12+12 = 82

1. KNOWLEDGE 4. 20+1+12+5+14+20 = 72

2. HARDWORK 5. 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5 = 100

3. SKILL
4. TALENT
5. ATTITUDE

Good job class!

We find the numerical value of the given
words.
 Analysis
We substitute the corresponding value in

of the given words?

And then what’s next?

Very good.

Class, when a number is substituted or

replace for the variable in a given
algebraic expression, the expression takes
a numerical value. And finding the value
is what we call “Evaluating the Algebraic
Expression”.

Let’s do this example. We substitute the given value of x in the

Evaluate 6 x 2 + 3 when equation.
a. x = 0
b. x = -2 A student will be called to substitute the
c. x = 1/2 value of x.
6(0)2 + 3 =
For letter a, how do we evaluate? What
should we do first? We perform the indicated operations.

Correct. Can someone show us how to

substitute the value of x in our equation? We follow the rules of GEMDAS.

Now what is the next step?

 6(0)2 + 3
Since we got here a multi operation = 6(0) + 3
equation, what should we do? =0+3
=3

Excellent! Can someone demonstrate on

how to apply the rules of GEMDAS in our A student will be called to answer.
equation? 6x2 + 3
= 6(−2)2+ 3
= 6(4) + 3
= 24 + 3
That is correct! Now for letter b, x = -2. = 27
Who would like to try following the same
steps? 6x2 + 3
= 6(1/ 2)2 + 3
= 6(1/4) + 3
= 6/4 + 3
Following the rules in adding dissimilar
fractions.
=6/4 + 12/4
And for the last example, x =1/2?
=18/4 or 9/2

Very good.

 Application

Now that you already know how to

evaluate algebraic expressions in real life
scenario, we will be having an activity. Solution:
