Quiz 1 Dynamics

The document contains a quiz with various dynamics problems involving motion, velocity, acceleration, and projectile motion. It includes calculations for a particle's position, the constant k in acceleration, the speed of a car before braking, a stone thrown from a height, projectile heights and ranges, tangential speed of a revolving platform, and the deceleration of a flywheel. Additionally, there is a bonus problem related to an elevator's acceleration and velocity.

Dynamics: Quiz No. 1 (Show your complete solution).

1. The motion of a particle is defined by the relation x=t4+2t3-5t2+8t+9, where x and t are expressed
in meters and seconds, respectively. Determine the position, the velocity, and acceleration of the
particle when t=2s.
2. The acceleration of a particle is defined by the relation a=kt2. (a) Knowing that v=2m/s when t=0
and that v=8 m/s when t=2 s, determine the constant k.
3. The brakes of a car are applied, causing it to slow down at a rate of 10 m/s2. Knowing that the
car stops at 100 m, determine (a) how fast the car was traveling immediately before the brakes
were applied, (b) the time required for the car to stop.

4. A stone is thrown vertically upward from a point on a bridge located 40 m above the water.
Knowing that it strikes the water 4s after release, determine (a) the speed with which the stone
was thrown upward, (b) the speed with which the stone strikes the water.
5. A bullet is fired at an angle of 75 degrees with the horizontal with an initial velocity of 420 m/s.
How high can it travel after 2 seconds?
6. A shot is fired at an angle of 40 degrees with the horizontal and a velocity of 280 ft/s. Find the
height and the range of the projectile.
7. A horizontal platform with a diameter of 6 m revolves about its center at 20 rpm. Find the
tangential speed, in m/s of a point at the edge of the platform.
8. A flywheel rotating at 400 rpm decelerates uniformly at 3 rad/s2. How many seconds will it take
for the flywheel to stop?

Bonus: The elevator shown starts from rest and moves upward
with constant acceleration. If the counterweight moves
through 20 m in 4 s, determine (a) the acceleration of the
elevator and the cable. (b) the velocity of the elevator after 5 s.
