Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions

UTHMAN DAN FODIO

He was born in 1754 at marathon, Uthman Dan Fodio had his elementary Islamic education from his
parents and relatives. He then travelled to other places, including Agades for his advanced studies. One
of his teachers was the famous Jibril Umar, who had a remarkable influence on him

Uthman Dan Fodio was extraordinarily well-read in arabic literature. He was a master of the classical
tongue, which he had learnt in his youth. He possessed a vast fund of Qur'anic knowledge, and was, in
addition, particularly well informed in traditions laws and rhetoric. He had also studied classical history.
All these enabled him to understand the essence of Islam, embodying the totality of human life that was
not just confined to rituals.

He was simple pious and ascetic. He had shunned material possessions. This was the fundamental
difference between him and most of the other members of the Ulama or religious scholars, especially
the court Ulama, whose greed and quest for material things were their undoing. Hence, they
undermined their integrity and independence and sold their conscience owing to their close association
with the Kings and other leading members of the rolling classes.
Now do these

1. Mention four areas of knowledge Uthman Dan Fodio studied.

2. Why were the members of the court Ulama hostile to him?

3. Mention three qualities that show Dan Fodio avoided material wealth.

4. Give four examples in each of the following sounds:

/ou/, /au/, /ae/
