uncontrollable tears followed.
This was the scene at the People’s
National Movement (PNM) head-

Supporters, who had gathered
in anticipation of a General Elec-

As PNM leader Dr Keith Rowley
conceded defeat around 10.15 pm,
Prime Minister Stuart Young was
quickly surrounded by party faith-
ful. They embraced him, many with
teary eyes.
Addressing the media, Dr Rowley
said, “It appears the PNM will end
up with an opposition in the order
of ten to 12 seats.”
“We are here for you,” one
woman shouted.
Trying to keep a brave face,
Young responded with determina-

rebuild and come back stronger. I
will fight hard for this country and
you. Get ready!”
“Stuarty! Stuarty! Stuarty,” the
crowd chanted in unison, trying to
spur him on.
Running toward Young with her
arms outstretched, PNM stalwart
Melba Boxill, from Mt Lambert, told
him she was heartbroken and sad.

Reggae Boy
Gray reaches

appearances
for NYCFC
NEW YORK, UNITED STATES
 New York City FC
celebrated a milestone and
a much-needed victory on
Saturday as Jamaican
defender Tayvon Gray
made his 100th appearance
for the club in a hard-
fought 1-0 win over
Toronto FC at BMO Field.
The 22-year-old Reggae
Boy, a product of NYCFC’s
academy, has become a
mainstay in the City de-
fence, and his century
mark arrived in style as the
visitors secured their first
road win of the 2024 MLS
season.
A second-half penalty,
won and converted by
Alonso Martínez, proved
decisive, while Gray and
the backline held firm to
preserve a clean sheet.
After the match, an emo-
tional Gray admitted he
wasn’t initially aware of the
milestone.
“To be fair, I didn’t quite
know I was there yet, so it
was a bit of a surprise to
me. I knew I had a lot of
games, but I didn’t think I
hit the 100 mark.”
Reflecting on the achieve-
ment, the Jamaican inter-
national added, “I think
it’s an exciting moment.
I’m happy. It just shows my
dedication and hard work
I put towards the game. I
think I’m among a few leg-
endary players. Maxi (Mo-
ralez), Keaton (Parks), they
all hit their 100 mark. It’s
good to have my name out
there with those guys.”
Gray’s journey from
NYCFC Academy to first-
team regular has been a
testament to his resilience
and growth. His versatility,
capable of playing both
right-back and centre-back,
has made him invaluable to
the squad and a potential
regular squad member for
Jamaica’s national team.
Head coach Nick Cush-
ing praised the defender’s
contribution post-match,
calling him “a model pro-
fessional and a leader on
and off the pitch.” CMC

Ramdeen snatches late win for AC PoS

NIGEL SIMON
Senior Multimedia Reporter

Mark Ramdeen found the back of the net

with nine minutes left in regulation time to
secure a 2-1 win for defending champions
Athletic Club Port-of-Spain over Point For-
tin Civic at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva,
on Sunday.
With third-placed San Juan Jabloteh (31
points) and fourth-placed Miscellaneous
Police FC (30) both dropping points, the
door was open for AC PoS (27 points) to
close the gap in the hunt for the third spot,
which guarantees a spot in CONCACAF
competitions.
Fourteen minutes into the contest, AC
PoS got the start they were hoping for
when former Secondary Schools Football
League Player of the Year, Michael Chaves,
who made his national senior team debut
last year, opened the scoring.
However, on the half-hour mark, Point
Fortin Civic got back on level terms thanks
to Jabari Watson as both teams went into
the half-time interval locked at 1-1.
In the second half, there were a few
chances for both teams to take all three
points, and with nine minutes left, Ram-
deen stole all three points for AC PoS as
they moved to 30 points but still in the fifth
