ABSTRACT
The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a structured
program designed by the Nigerian government to expose undergraduate
students of tertiary institutions to practical industrial work experience in
their respective fields of study. Implemented since 1973, SIWES serves
as a bridge between theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom
and practical application in real-world industrial settings.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0 About SIWES

SIWES stands for Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme, it is
a structured program designed for students enrolled in Nigerian tertiary
institutions like universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. It
aims to provide students with practical work experience related to their
field of study, bridging the gap between theoretical learning in
classrooms and real-world industry practices.

The objectives of SIWES are multi-faceted. Firstly, it aims to

expose students to actual work environments where they can apply the
theoretical knowledge gained in their academic studies. This hands-on
experience is crucial as it helps students understand how concepts
learned in classrooms are implemented in practical settings. Secondly,
SIWES is intended to enhance students' practical skills and
competencies. By working in industries or organizations relevant to their
disciplines, students gain valuable skills that are essential for their future
careers. This includes technical skills, problem-solving abilities,
teamwork, and communication skills.

Moreover, SIWES seeks to improve students' employability by

making them more adaptable to work environments and familiar with
industry norms and practices. It prepares them for the transition from
academic life to professional roles by providing a realistic preview of
what their future careers may entail. Additionally, the scheme aims to
foster collaboration between educational institutions and industries. By

partnering with businesses and organizations, SIWES creates

opportunities for knowledge exchange, industry input into curriculum
development, and potential future employment for students.

1.1 The main Objectives of SIWES are:

1. To provide students with industrial work experience in order

to expose them to real-life work situations related to their field of
study.

2. To enhance students' practical skills and competencies in their

chosen professions.

3. To make students more adaptable to the work environment

and improve their employability after graduation.

4. To bridge the gap between theory and practice by allowing

students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom
to real-world scenarios.

5. To foster collaboration between educational institutions and

industries for mutual benefit.

During SIWES, students typically spend a specified period—ranging from

three to six months—working under the supervision of experienced
professionals in their chosen field. They are expected to participate
actively in workplace activities, contribute meaningfully to projects, and
adhere to workplace ethics and regulations. The program requires
students to keep detailed records of their activities and experiences,
which they later document in reports submitted to their academic
institutions for assessment.

Successful completion of SIWES is often a prerequisite for obtaining a

degree or diploma in many Nigerian tertiary institutions. It serves as a

formal evaluation of students' ability to apply their academic knowledge

in practical settings and demonstrates their readiness for professional
roles. Beyond academic requirements, SIWES helps students build
professional networks, gain references, and sometimes secure job
placements upon graduation.

CHAPTER TWO
2.0 Historical background of the company
FEMTECH INFORMATION TRAINING ISTITUTE(FITI) is one of the

2.1 Introduction of the unit

I carried out my Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme in
Siwes Training Department at the FEMTECH INFORMATION TRAINING
INSTITUTE(FITI), I learnt on how to use Microsoft word and how I can
design a website with HTML and CSS, also learnt the basic of how to
create a desktop app with Python.

CHAPTER THREE
3.0 Experience
The experience I had during my SIWES Training at FEMTECH is
very exploitative and educative. I had a physical classes with the
Instructors there, they taught me on how I can design a website front-
end with HTML and CSS also I was taught on how I can design a Login
Page, Product Card with HTML and CSS. I also learnt on how to use
Microsoft word and some features in it.

Challenges and Recommendations
5.0 Challenges: The only challenge I encountered during my IT period
was the amount of money I spend daily on transportation.

CONCLUSIONS

In conclusion, SIWES plays a crucial role in the educational

landscape of Nigeria by enriching students' learning experiences through
practical exposure to industry settings. It equips them with the skills,
knowledge, and confidence necessary to thrive in their chosen careers.
By integrating theory with practice and fostering collaboration between
academia and industry, SIWES contributes to producing well-rounded
graduates who are prepared to make meaningful contributions to the
