(a) 1 (b) 2 (c) 3 (d) 4

3. Ishan has 40 cm long red and 84 cm long blue ribbon. He cuts each ribbon into pieces such that
all pieces are of equal length. What is the length of each piece?
(a) 4 cm as it is the HCF of 40 and 84 (b) 4 cm as it is the LCM of 40 and 84
(c) 12 cm as it is the LCM of 40 and 84 (d) 12 cm as it is the HCF of 40 and 84

4. Zeroes of a polynomial p(x) can be determined graphically. No. of zeroes of a polynomial is

equal to no. of points where the graph of polynomial
(a) intersects y-axis (b) intersects x-axis
(c) intersects y-axis or intersects x-axis (d) none of these

5. If two positive integers a and b are written as a = x3y2 and b = xy3, where x and y are prime
numbers, then the HCF (a, b) is:
(a) xy (b) xy2 (c) x3y3 (d) x2y2
6. The zeroes of the quadratic polynomial x2 + 25x + 156 are
(a) both positive (b) both negative
(c) one positive and one negative (d) can’t be determined
7. The HCF of 2472, 1284 and a third number N is 12. If their LCM is 23 × 32 × 5 × 103 × 107,

In the following questions 9 and 10, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of
Reason (R). Choose the correct answer out of the following choices.
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.

9. Assertion (A): x2 + 4x + 5 has two real zeroes.
Reason (R): A quadratic polynomial can have at the most two zeroes.

10. Assertion (A): 6n never ends with the digit zero, where n is natural number.
Reason (R): Any number ends with digit zero, if its prime factor is of the form 2m × 5n, where
m, n are natural numbers.

SECTION – E (Case Study Based Questions)

Questions 19 to 20 carry 4 marks each.
19. Quadratic polynomial can be used to model the shape of many architectural structures in the
world. The Lusitania Bridge is a bridge in Merida, Spain. The bridge was built over the
Guadiana River in 1991 by a Spanish consortium to take the road traffic from the Romano
bridge. The architect was Santiago Calatrava. The bridge takes its name from the fact that
Emerita Augusta (present day Merida) was the former capital of Lusitania, an ancient Roman
province.

20. A morning walk may help improve your mental clarity and ability to focus throughout the day. A
recent study found that amongst older adults, those who started their days with a morning walk
improved their cognitive function, compared to those who remained sedentary. Walking may
also help you think more creatively. In a morning walk three students step off together, their
steps measure 80 cm, 85 cm and 90 cm respectively.
