Lesson Plan: Holiday Concert Preparation

Obama SCTE / Mr. Ramos

Grade Level: K- 5
Subject Area: Music
Duration: 3 weeks
Objectives:
 Students will learn and rehearse holiday music.
 Students will develop vocal and instrumental skills in a group setting.
 Students will practice teamwork, stage presence, and performance
skills.
 Students will participate in a collaborative, public performance.

Week 1: Introduction to the Holiday Concert

 Objective: Students will be introduced to the concert's theme and
start learning music.
 Activities:
o Icebreaker Activity: Discuss holiday traditions and songs
students are familiar with.
o Introduce the Concert Theme: Briefly talk about the concert
and the songs to be performed.
o Song Selection: Choose one song from between 3-5 songs for
the concert. This could include classic holiday songs like "Jingle
Bells," "Silent Night," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," and a
couple of multicultural or non-religious songs to represent
diversity.
o Warm-up: Start with basic vocal warm-ups to help students
focus on proper breathing and diction.
o Assign Parts: If applicable, divide students into groups for parts
(solo, chorus, instrumental).
Homework: Practice singing the song with lyrics at home. Students can
review sheet music or listen to recordings.

Week 2: Song Practice and Rehearsal

 Objective: Students will start rehearsing the songs in small groups
and learn parts.
 Activities:

Start slow and emphasize rhythm, pitch, and dynamics. Include
movements or actions for younger students.
o Introduce Simple Instruments: If students are playing
instruments (e.g., bells, tambourines, small percussion),
introduce them to some songs.
o Group Practice: Break the class into small groups (solos, duets,
chorus). Have students practice their sections.
o Whole Class Practice: All students sing together. Give
feedback on pitch, timing, and energy.
o
o Stage Directions: Practice basic stage presence—how to stand,
how to address the audience, and when to clap.
Homework: Practice the first song and memorize the lyrics.

o Stage Practice: Walk through how students will enter and exit
the stage, and how they will interact during the performance.
Homework: Practice the songs with movements or instrument parts.
