Aligned Learning Activities and Differentiation

Student #1

Class Grade (from Topic 2) Academic Standard (from Topic 2)

2nd Grade 2.RL.1

Learning Objective (from Topic 2)

Key Ideas and Details

Aligned Learning Activity A book report can be very beneficial when it comes to mastering the objective of key ideas and
details. When completing the book report the student will have to recall information they read in
order to get the details correct. Stating what the main idea from the story was is a big part of the
book report and so is finding those details to support the main idea.

Student from Class Profile and Arturo is a native Spanish speaking student. Arturo reads a level below grade level so for him I
Brief Description of would allow him to choose a book that fits his needs. What I mean by that is I would not have hi
Differentiation doing a book report on a 2nd grade level book if he is reading at a 1st grade level. With allowing
him to use a book at his reading level he is much more likely to understand what it is he is
reading in order to recall the details. He could also choose a book in his reading level that is
written in his native language and do the book report in his native language with translations.

Home Extension Activity The home activity he could do would be to have his parents help him translate his book report.
They could also help him recall the details for his report by reading with him at home. This
shows that he has support at home not just in the classroom which will in turn make him feel
more confident with reading.

Key ideas and details

Aligned Learning Activity Power point presentation can allow students to show off what they learned. Within the
PowerPoint the student will recall what happened from the book as well as the main idea. They
will also need to have supporting details for the main idea.

Student from Class Profile and Beryl is a very smart young lady who reads two years above grade level. Having her read and do
Brief Description of a presentation over a book at a 2nd grade reading level would not benefit her. I would allow her to
Differentiation choose a book from a 4th grade reading level so that it will be a little challenging for her. While
she is in 2nd grade allowing her to do the presentation with a book at her reading level will boost
her confidence and allow her a chance at a better grade.

Home Extension Activity What Beryl could do at home would be to research books at her reading level with her parents.
The support of a parent can make all the difference when doing homework. Not only will she find
a book for her presentation her parents can help her get things in order for the PowerPoint by
reading the book with her.

Key Ideas and details

Aligned Learning Activity I would have this student do a book report. Book reports are a great way for students to recall
information and the details of what they read.

Student from Class Profile and Mason is a Vietnamese student with high functioning autism. He reads at grade level so I would
Brief Description of allow him to do the report over a topic that he is interested in, I know from experience that most
Differentiation children with autism have a favorite topic that they fixate on. Allowing Mason to do a book
report on the topic of his choosing will allow him to blooms and show off his skills. He will be
more likely to complete the project in a timely manner while hitting all the point needed.

Home Extension Activity I would have his parents help him research a book over the topic he wanted. This will help him to
understand that he has help at home as well as make him feel confident that he is choosing the
right book. Having his parents help him pick out the main idea and supporting details will help
him to understand what it is he needs to complete the report.
