SAP S/4HANA Finance
SAP believes best-run businesses are intelligent enterprises. They apply advanced
technologies and best practices within agile, integrated business processes.
The Intelligent Enterprise consists of four components:
1. The Business Collaboration area focuses on being able to connect and collaborate with
external and internal business partners to bridge the gap between locations,
organizations, and system landscapes. An example of collaboration would be the use of
the SAP Ariba Network, where the company can find, interact, and collaborate with
suppliers.
2. The Business Processes area focuses on the end-to-end scenario for each business
transaction and has the integration of these processes as a top priority. In this training, we
will focus on the financial portions of the business processes.
3. The Business Applications area focuses on the solutions to record data for the Intelligent
Enterprise. In this training we will focus on the SAP S/4HANA solution.
4. The Business Technology area focuses on the technical infrastructure and information
management that introduce the intelligence into the Intelligent Enterprise.
The figure shows SAP’s Intelligent Enterprise solution portfolio and how the pieces come
together.
Select the highlighted elements in the figure below to read about each of the components that
make up the digital enterprise:

Here are some of the main parts of the Intelligent Enterprise components:
Business Network
It helps customers digitize cross-company business processes. The network builds on SAP
procurement, travel, and contingent workforce solutions. It helps companies work together to
build flexible value chains.
Experience Management
It helps organizations evaluate and act on customer, partner, and employee sentiment.
Understanding what your stakeholders want and how they feel is critical to making the right
decisions.
Intelligent Suite
It helps to run agile, integrated business processes. We help manage every part of the
organization - employees, customers, products, spend, finance, and IT. With embedded
analytics, we offer a 360-degree view of the business.
Industry Cloud
It allows customers to discover and deploy vertical solutions from SAP and partners. These
help customers apply leading-edge industry best practices and extend current business
processes.
Sustainability Management
It helps customers understand and manage their impact on people and the environment for
example by helping to measure greenhouse gas emissions.
Business Technology Platform
It provides data management and analytics and supports application development and
integration. It also allows our customers to use intelligent technologies - such as artificial
intelligence, machine learning and the Internet of Things - to drive innovation.

[email protected] Lesson: Understanding SAP Real Estate Contract Management with SAP S/4HANA and SAP Fiori
Introduction to Financial Accounting
Before you have a closer look at the structure of financial accounting later on in this course,
the following video answers the question, "What are main tasks of Financial Accounting?"
Video: Financial Accounting in a Nutshell
For more information on Financial Accounting in a Nutshell, please view the video
in the lesson Understanding SAP Real Estate Contract Management with SAP S/
4HANA and SAP Fiori in your online course.
Figure 2: Financial Accounting in a Nutshell
External Focus
The tasks and structures of financial accounting are strongly determined by external factors.
Financial accounting must meet the commercial and tax requirements of the country a
company operates in. Globally acting companies often also have to map international
accounting principles, such as International Financial Reporting Standard 16 (IFRS 16), in their
accounting system. It provides information for different external target groups: for example,
year-end closing is an important data source, for shareholders, creditors, and customers.
These accounting figures are also used by the Tax authorities to determine and verify the
company's taxes.
Document Principle
Financial Accounting in SAP S/4HANA offers unbroken audit trail for internal and external
purposes based on a a so called Document Principle. This means that, for example, the
figures in a balance sheet item can be drawn up to the document level. If financial accounting
documents are based on transactions in other SAP components (for example, goods receipt
posting in procurement), these documents are linked to each other by a document flow. For
example, a customer complains about a dunning notice that he or she has received.
According to his information, the invoice has already been paid. Due to the document
principle in SAP S/4HANA, such transactions can be solved quickly and corrected if
necessary.
Decision Basis
Although Financial Accounting focuses on external target groups, this set of figures also
serves as a central source of information for the management of the company. For example,
financial accounting figures are used to monitor, control, and plan company goals.

Financial Accounting Components
General Ledger Accounting
Financial Accounting is divided into different areas. We will now discover the general ledger
and its various subledgers in a little more detail.
The main purpose of general ledger accounting is to fully represent external accounting and
the accounts involved in it. Recording all business transactions in SAP S/4HANA (that is fully
integrated with all the other operational areas of a company) ensures that the accounting
data is always complete and accurate.
Select the highlighted tabs on the top of the figure to read examples of how General Ledger
Accounting collects business transactions through integration with other SAP components
Animation
For more information on this topic please view the animation in the lesson
Understanding SAP Real Estate Contract Management with SAP S/4HANA and
SAP Fiori in your online course.
Figure 3: General Ledger Accounting
The main goals of the General Ledger Accounting are as follows:
● Accountability according to legal requirements (for example, Local Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles and IFRS).
● Provide information to shareholders, creditors, and the public.
● Documentation of all business transactions based on a document principle.
● Provide accounting data for group reporting.
Important reports are as follows:
● Balance Sheet / Profit & Loss Statement
● Trail balance

● VAT Reporting
Integrative aspects are as follows:
● Treasury & Risk Management - foreign exchange currency was purchased using our bank
account. This transaction is posted automatically in general ledger accounting.
● Sourcing & Procurement - a goods receipt increases the value of inventory in the current
assets in the balance sheet.
● Inventory Management - inventory differences in inventory management lead to automatic
adjustment postings in the general ledger.
● Manufacturing - a withdrawal of goods for production leads to an expense posting and
reduction in inventory of current assets.
● Sales - a billing document in sales results in an increase in receivables in the balance sheet
and a revenue posting.

Figure 4: User Experience Value Proposition
User Experience is not simply about colors and fonts. A great User Experience can lead to an
increase in productivity as people can work faster and more efficiently. It also helps to
increase application adoption, decrease errors, and save training costs. All benefits with an
immediately impact on the overall business value.

Figure 5: Fiori Experience
SAP Fiori offers a collection of apps, created based on the rules of the SAP User Experience.
Each SAP Fiori app is designed to cover an individual step for a specific role. Therefore,
several apps combined represent a complete process, covering different enterprise solutions
and systems. This is a shift from monolithic solutions to activity-based apps, providing a role-
based simplification of business processes. A role-based User Experience means that end
users get all information and functions they need for their daily work – but are not burdened
by those they don't need. The SAP Fiori launchpad is at the center of this strategy, offering a
single entry point for users to interact with different enterprise solutions. SAP Fiori is
accessed via any modern browser, meaning you can access it via, for example, Chrome, Edge,
Firefox, or Safari browser. It is also device agnostic. You have the same user experience on
your laptop, your phone, or your tablet, allowing you to work the way that you want to, where
you want to.
Note:
Not all apps are available on all devices.
LESSON SUMMARY
You should now be able to:
● Describe SAP Real Estate Management with SAP S/4HANA
● Describe Fiori apps for SAP RE Contract Management
