Introduction

Pakistan is a country in South Asia. It has many different types

of land such as tall mountains, flat lands, deserts, rivers, and a
sea. Because of this, Pakistan’s geography is very special. It
gives the country beauty, resources, and different weather in
different places.

Location and Borders

Pakistan is located between many important countries. It shares
its borders with:
• India (to the east)
• Afghanistan and Iran (to the west)
• China (to the north)
• Arabian Sea (to the south)
This location connects Pakistan to the Middle East, Central Asia,
and South Asia.

Page 3: Mountains and Hills

The northern part of Pakistan has some of the highest mountains
in the world. The main mountain ranges are:
• Himalayas
• Karakoram
• Hindu Kush
K2, the second-highest mountain in the world, is in the
Karakoram Range. These mountains are covered with snow and
glaciers.

Rivers and Lakes

Pakistan’s main river is the Indus River, which flows from the
north to the south. It gives water to most of the country. Other
important rivers are:
• Jhelum
• Chenab
• Ravi
• Sutlej
Famous lakes include:
• Lake Saif-ul-Mulook
• Manchar Lake (the largest freshwater lake in Pakistan)

Page 5: Plains and Plateaus

In the center and south of Pakistan, there are large flat areas
called plains. These are in the Punjab and Sindh provinces and
are great for farming.
In the west, there are dry, high lands called plateaus. The
biggest one is the Balochistan Plateau.

Deserts
Pakistan also has dry deserts. The three main deserts are:
• Thar Desert (in Sindh)
• Cholistan Desert (in Punjab)
• Kharan Desert (in Balochistan)
These deserts have very little rain and very hot weather. Some
areas have sand dunes and dry bushes.

Climate (Weather)
Pakistan has different weather in different areas:
• Hot summers in the south and center
• Cold winters in the north
• Rainy season (monsoon) in July and August
The northern areas can get snow, while southern areas can reach
high temperatures above 45°C.

Natural Resources
Pakistan is rich in natural resources. These include:
• Coal, natural gas, and oil
• Salt (including the famous Khewra Salt Mine)
• Copper, gold, and iron
• Fertile land for farming
• Forests and freshwater
These resources help the economy and provide jobs.

Environmental Challenges
Pakistan also faces some environmental problems:
• Floods and droughts
• Deforestation (cutting down trees)
• Air and water pollution
• Climate change
These issues affect farming, health, and natural beauty.

Conclusion
Pakistan's geography is full of variety. From snowy mountains
to hot deserts and green farms to salty mines, Pakistan has it all.
Understanding geography helps us take care of our land and use
our resources wisely. It also helps us be proud of the natural
beauty our country has.
