Holy Prophet (PBUH) as an Individual
In order to give ethics and purify all ethical ills, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s personality
presents a complete, comprehensive and safe pattern to be followed. He (PBUH) vividly
described the purpose of his Prophet Hood in these words: “That I have been sent to complete
good morals.”
1- Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as an Individual in Social Life
Important Rules of Social Life
From the social life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), one can deduce following important
rules of social life.
i. Do not be jealous of others
ii. Do not provoke each other to mutual opposition
iii. Do not feel malice
iv. Do not break relations with others
v. Do not make a bargain over someone else’s bargain
vi. Do not be cruel to one another
vii. Do not leave each other helpless
viii. Do not insult one another
ix. Every Muslim’s blood, property, honour are unlawful to the other
x. Even to be virtuous or wicked depends upon the evidence of the neighbours. So, in
social education to consider the rights of relatives and neighbours was regarded a
standard of faith.
2- As an Individual in Politics
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also educated humanity in the field of politics. In political life, he
abolished sovereignty of man over other men and established a system of the sovereignty of
Allah. He commanded:
“There is no obedience of creature in the disobedience to God”
Important Principles of Political Life
i. Sovereignty of Allah
ii. Human Rights
iii. Equality before law
iv. Social Justice
v. Consultancy in governance
vi. Khalafat of Man Kind
vii. Decision by Shura
3- As an Economist
The economic principle propagated and followed by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) during his
lifetime are an example of the mankind.
i. Sacredness of lawful Earning
ii. Obligations of Charity and Zakat
iii. Prohibition of Interest
iv. Determined the rights and duties of the employer and the employed
4- As a Trader
i. Encouraged industrialization and trade
ii. The biggest source of man’s exploitation is interest and the biggest evil that destroys
man’s morals and character is wine/drinking
iii. The income obtained from interest, wine, and adultery is absolutely unlawful
iv. Devised excellent rules of marketing by prohibiting to make a bargain over another
bargain, to sell goods at the place from where purchased, and to sell it before gaining
its possession
v. He founded trade on the principles of hard work, exchange of beneficial things,
services and mutual willingness instead of cheating or coincidence.
vi. Even today, these eco-trade teachings are the singular source of solving economic
problems
5- A Man of Ultimate Consideration
Even at a young age, the Prophet Muhammad showed amazing consideration to those around
him. After the death of his grandfather, he was sent to live with his Uncle, Abu Talib. Abu
Talib, who had many children, but he always treated the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as his
own and did not deprive him of what he needed. Because of his intense generosity, Abu Talib
was poor and struggled to keep his family fed.
At the young age of thirteen, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) decided to shed burden from the
shoulders of his uncle. In a time where being a shepherd was considered to be lowly and
unrewarding, the young Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) sacrificed his own image and became a
shepherd, receiving a menial salary.
Prophet Muhammad (PBU) worked hard and rose in ranks in the work force until he became
a successful business man by the age of twenty-five. It is at this time, in a highly chauvinistic
society, that Lady Khadijah hired him to work for her. Just as his ego did not prevent him
from a lowly job when he needed it, again his ego did not prevent him from working for a
successful woman, whom he would eventually marry.
When Prophet Muhammad did finally marry Khadijah, he did not forget the generosity of his
uncle. In order to give back, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) adopted Abu Talib’s son, Ali,
who would later be a great torch bearer of Islam.
Thus, at an age where many young men are only thinking about themselves, the Prophet was
already catching every opportunity to make the lives of others easier.
6- A Man of Mercy
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was merciful, cared for the weak, encouraged the women,
and stood up for anyone in need.
The men at the time of Prophet Muhammad were privileged with the opportunity to be in his
company, learning and growing with him. The women wanted to have such an opportunity,
and being the leader that he was, the women did not feel any shyness or fear in requesting
this from him. Upon request, the Prophet set aside a special time just for the women so that
he could answer their questions and help them with what they needed.
The Prophet (PBUH)’s mercy was vast and inclusive. He spread it far and wide to the point
that even animals could find refuge in his kindness. Once‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud was traveling
with the Prophet and a few other men. One of the men took an egg from the bird’s nest. Out
of despair, the bird came and flapped its wings at the Prophet, and he took immediate notice
to her sad state. He turned to his companions and asked them who had made this poor bird
miserable. Upon finding out that her egg had been taken, he ordered the man to return the egg
to her as a sign of mercy and compassion
Introduction (Also an introduction for Serat of Prophet Muhammad, PBUH)
Like a veteran campaigner he can defeat his enemies, fully armed and exceeding his none too
well armed battlers, still he is so peace-loving that he has no hesitation in signing a treaty
when thousands of his followers are ready to fight till death. He is a man so dauntless that he
can set whole of the Quraish at defiance, but he is so kind-hearted that he never sheds a drop
of blood. He is solicitous about the welfare of his own family, of the weak and orphan, and of
every wayward soul in Arabia; he is always concerned about the salvation of every human
being; but he is also indifferent to everything save the pleasure of his Lord. He never curses
those who deride him, nor does he retaliate against those who persecute him; rather, he
invokes divine blessings on those who bear malice against him; nevertheless, he never
forgives the enemies of God whom he always threatens with grievous punishment in the
hereafter.
Conclusion (Also a conclusion for Serat of Prophet Muhammad,
When we begin to see him as a militant battler, he appears before us as an ascetic in vigil and
prayers and when we find him making his debut as a brilliant conqueror, we are astonished to
see in him the innocent divine messenger. Just when we call him the king of Arabia, we find
him leaning on a leather pillow filled with date leaves. The day we see the booty of war piled
up in the backyard of his Mosque, we find his own family with absolutely nothing to satisfy
the pangs of hunger. When we see him distributing the prisoners of war as slaves to the
inhabitants of Madina, we also see his daughter Fatima (Razi Allah Unho) complaining of
blisters on her hands and shoulders caused by driving the hand mill and carrying water.
