To
All our Units & Members:

Dear Comrades,

Earlier we have informed that at a meeting of the various Unions in Banking and
Insurance sector, it was decided to jointly observe the nationwide General Strike on
20th May, 2025 to protest against the increasing onslaughts on the working class due
the pro-corporate policies of the Government and their continued attempts to weaken
the labour rights in order to facilitate further exploitation of the working mass in their
pursuit of profit maximization.

The Strike call has been jointly given by AIBEA, AIIEA, AILICEF, AIBOA, BEFI and
AINLIEF.

Other Unions like AIBOC, NCBE, INBEF, INBOC have extended their fraternal support
the strike.

In banking sector, the Strike Notice has been jointly served by AIBEA, AIBOA and
BEFI. Our individual unions need not serve any strike notice except our Unions in
RRBs and Co-op. Banks who have to serve separate strike notice.

The strike is to fully support the demands of the National Convention of Workers and
to highlight the following demands:
▪ Strengthen Public Sector Banks and Insurance Companies
▪ Stop privatisation and disinvestment in Banks and LIC
▪ Stop 100% FDI Hike in Insurance sector
▪ Merge Public Sector General Insurance Companies as one entity
▪ Ensure adequate recruitments
▪ Stop outsourcing and contract jobs
▪ Scrap NPS – Restore OPS
▪ Take tough measures to recover bad loans from Corporates
▪ Reduce service charges in Banks for ordinary customers
▪ Withdraw GST on life and health insurance premiums

Comrades, in the banking sector we are already in the midst of our struggle and efforts
to resolve our demands. We observe that Government is interfering with their
unilateral instructions to affect bilateralism. They are forcing the banks to review the
efficiency of employees and officers after the age of 55/57 years to threaten our job
security. Violating the bilateral agreement on PLI, Government is trying to impose
their unilateral and arbitrary formula on PLI for scale IV officers and above. Our
demand for 5 days banking is being delayed inordinately.

We also witness the continuation of their policies to privatise the Banks as evidenced
from their efforts to IDBI Bank. On all these issues, our struggle under the banner of
UFBU will continue.

But all of us will realise that these attempts and efforts stem from the broader policies
of the Government aimed to weaken the labour movement and to strengthen the
hands of the employers. Hence besides our sectoral fights within the banking sector,
we also need to be part of the common struggles of the general trade union
movement. We need to be part of the mainstream struggles of the working class to
defend our labour rights and to resist the anti-worker machinations of the
Government.

We exhort all our Unions and members to move together and implement the
programmes and the Strike action on 20th may, 2025 an impressive success.

With greetings,

Yours comradely,

C.H. VENKATACHALAM DEBASISH BASU CHOUDHURY
