JOB DESCRIPTION:
Key performance areas include but are not limited to:
• Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing and production usage
• Works closely with system administration and system analyst for support of applications
utilizing Oracle, MS SQL and MySQL databases, MariaDB and Galera Clusters
• Plans and implements security procedures, backup and recovery of supported databases
• Controls migrations of programs, database changes, reference data changes and menu
changes through the development life cycle
• Schedule DR tests, and document test results
• Enforces and maintains database constraints to ensure integrity of the database
• Administers all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences,
packages and procedures
• The DBA has ultimate responsibility for the physical database design
• Gather requirements from clients and to perform Information planning
• Improving current business processes in place
• Performing cost benefit analysis for alternative solutions or applications
• System evaluation and feasibility studies on existing systems
• Ensure compliance with industry standards
• Perform vulnerability assessments on databases
• Improve security of databases
• Researching on new technologies
• Determining design methodologies and design tools
• Prototyping solutions or applications for feasibility studies
• Creating and Maintaining Datawarehouse
• Creating Reports and Dashboards, and Scheduling of Reports
APPLICATION CRITERIA:
Qualification/Experience:
• B Tech/Honours IT Qualification or equivalent
• Oracle Certified Associate DBA (Advantage)
• Certification in ITIL Foundation (Advantage)
• Certification in Cobit Foundation (Advantage)
• Certification in Project Management (Advantage)
• 4 years Oracle experience (PL/SQL and Administration)
• 3 years of MySQL database administration experience
• 2 years Business Intelligence/Reporting (e.g Jasper)
• 5 years experience on Linux/Unix Operating systems
• 4 years ERP (e.g Integrated Tertiary Software) Technical Experience (Advantage), and Load
Balancing and Clustering of Databases (Advantage)

Skills:
• A good knowledge of the Linux and Unix operating systems

• Ability to perform both Oracle and also operating system performance monitoring and the
necessary adjustments
• Be able to provide a strategic database direction for the organization
• Excellent knowledge of Oracle/MySQL backup and recovery scenarios
• A good knowledge of Oracle security management
• A good knowledge of how Oracle acquires and manages resources
• A DBA should have sound communication skills with management, development teams,
vendors, systems administrators and other related service providers
• Strong experience with various MySQL and open-source monitoring tools in addition to writing
custom database-monitoring scripts
• Strong experience securing MySQL databases and implementing additional security best
practices
• Experience with various features of Oracle and MySQL; like replication, partitioning, clustering
etc.
