Structure
The shell is made with alloy steel forging or casting. The ram is
O-type on the vertical section of active control rod and it is
manually controlled by the control rod. The shell is T-type. The
top end of shell adopts the thread design so as to input, output
and test the BOP. The shell is equipped with outlets at both sides
and normally the thread adopts the pipeline thread design so as
to connect the pipeline. It also can be used to produce the oil. In
case of emergency, it also can be used for killing well.

3.General Operation
The TFZ Rod BOP is typically selected for mounting between a tubing head and a
flanged wellhead drive in a new well installation. The TFZ Rod BOP provides studded
flanged connections for rigid and safe support of the wellhead drive. The flow-tee, within
The TFZ Rod BOP, includes two side ports, typically one for the production fluids and the
other to gauge pressure, take sample fluids, flush the well, etc. The BOP within The TFZ
Rod BOP safely seals off all well fluids within the well bore to enable servicing of piping or
production equipment. The optional polish rod lock, within The TFZ Rod BOP, safely
clamps the polish rod, which allows for safer servicing of the production equipment. The
top studded flange connecting includes a box thread LP port to be used when servicing
the rod string.

4. State as Supplied
4.1 All TFZ ROD BOP units are supplied complete with studs, nuts.
4.2 All studs are installed to the proper torque rating at the manufacturing facility.
4.3 All TFZ ROD BOP units are subjected to pressure testing beforeshipment and are
tested in accordance with the order data.
4.4 The internal parts of The TFZ Rod BOP are protected to withstand normal shipping
conditions, including overseas shipments, and a period of 6 months if stored in a
protected location until start-up.
4.5 The outer coating is resistant to weak acids and alkalis, oils, and solvents. It is
seawater resistant, tropic proof, and heat resistant up to a temperature of 190ºC
(350ºF). Its color is according to customer request.
4.6 Individual units are securely strapped down for local shipping and storage. Crating is
required for export shipping.

5 .Safety Notes
5.1 The TFZ Rod BOP may only be installed and operated within the scope of the
conditions specified in this manual.
5.2 Unauthorized modifications, which impair The TFZ Rod BOP reliability, are NOT
permissible.
5.3 The operator should ensure that the persons entrusted with installation, operation,
care and maintenance, have read and understood the manual and observe its
provisions in all respects in order to:
• Prevent personal safety hazards to the user and third parties.
• Ensure the reliability of The TFZ Rod BOP
• Prevent failure and environmental pollution due to incorrect operation.
5.4 The relevant regulations concerning industrial safety and pollution control should
be observed during
handling, installation, operation, and maintenance.
5.5 The TFZ Rod BOP may only be operated, serviced, and repaired by authorized,
trained, and properly instructed personnel.
5.6 All work should be carried out with care and safety in mind.
5.7 Labeling affixed to The TFZ Rod BOP., such as nameplates, instruction decals, etc.
must be observed. They must be kept free of paint and dirt. Damaged or missing
plates must be replaced.
6. INSTALLATION
6.1 Install The TFZ Rod BOPunit after tubing is installed and before the rod string is
installed.
6.2 Install bottom RTJ ring-type joint gasket onto the tubing/casing head.
6.3 Determine the required positions of The TFZ Rod BOP LP ports with respect to the
production tank or flowline.
6.4 Lower The TFZ Rod BOPonto the tubing/casing head.
6.5 Visually inspect ring gasket and groove to assure surfaces are clean and in good
condition.
6.6 Coat rings, grooves, and studs with thread lubricant such as anti-seize compound.
6.7 Hand-tighten the nuts onto the studs.
6.8 Remove the sling or handling device.
6.9 Tighten nuts in a crisscross pattern, repeating the pattern three or four times while
gradually tightening.
6.10 The TFZ Rod BOP is now ready for pipefitting of the ports to isolate the unit.
6.11 Ensure that the BOP and/or lock-out rams are in the fully open position.
6.12 The TFZ Rod BOP is now ready for the rig worktable to be flanged or threaded on,
to run the rotor and rods.

7. OPERATING CHECKS
7.1 Wellhead Drive Shutdown Procedure
7.1.1 If you have any doubts about the conditions or feel unsafe, do not proceed.Contact
the supervisor for assistance.
7.1.2 Wear proper personal protection equipment such as hardhats, safety boots, safety
glasses, fire-retardant coveralls, and any other required equipment.
7.1.3 Limit number of people on the lease to essential personnel and make sure that
everyone on the lease is aware of the shutdown.
7.1.4 Be aware of any potential hazards such as brake failure, which could result in
severe backspin causing flying debris.
7.1.5 Establish a barrier (e.g., truck) between yourself and the wellhead drive and alert
all that are on the well site before powering down the wellhead drive.
7.1.6 Shut off the well, tag and lock out the main power. Make a note as to where the
switch is set (e.g., Handoff or Auto-on).
7.1.7 If you are unfamiliar with the equipment on the well, have a supervisor or
manufacturer's representative assist you.
7.1.8 The drive should now be locked out using The TFZ Rod BOP lock-out or other
means of lock-out.
7.1.9 After locking out the drive, close the BOP rams before servicing.
7.2 TFZ ROD BOP Polish Rod Lock-Out Operation
7.2.1 After the drive is properly shut down The TFZ Rod BOP lock-out can be
tightened.
7.2.2 Using the provided hex on the stems, slowly thread in the stems.
7.2.3 Grooves are provided in the stems to aid in tightening the stems evenly and not
off to one side.
7.2.4 With the stems holding the polish rod in the center, torque each stem to 500 ft-lb.
The use of a t o r q u e wrench is recommended to ensure that the proper torque is
applied. This will give a clamping strength of 1000 ft-lb torque and 30,000 lb load.
7.2.5 When disengaging the lock-out ensure that the lockout rams are fully opened.
7.3 TFZ ROD BOP Operation
7.3.1 After the drive is properly shut down and the rod string is locked out, the BOP
rams can be closed.
7.3.2 Using the handles provided on the BOP stems, slowly thread in the stems.
7.3.3 Grooves are provided in the stems to aid in tightening the stems evenly and not
off to one side.
7.3.4 Hand-tighten the BOP on the polish rod. Excessive force is not required to seal off
the well bore.
7.3.5 When disengaging the BOP ensure that the rams are fully opened.

8. MAINTENANCE
The only regular maintenance required on The TFZ Rod BOP is on the stem packing
and rams. You will know that maintenance is required when the stem packing leaks
and does not hold pressure, the rod lock-out slips, and/or the BOP does not hold
pressure. NOTE: If pressure loss occurs, check the stem packing for leaks first.
8.1 Stem Packing - If the stem packing is leaking, tighten the gland nut. If this does not
stop the leak, the packing should be replaced.
8.2 Lock-out Rams - If there is any slippage when the rod is locked out there may be
debris between the lock-out ram and the polish rod and/or the ram surfaces may be
damaged/worn. In this case the lock-out rams should be removed, cleaned, and
inspected for damage. If they are damaged they must be replaced. BOP Rams - If
the BOP rams are not holding pressure they must be removed and replaced.
