dIGITIZATION IN Q GIS

The document outlines the steps for digitizing point, line, and polygon features using QGIS. It includes instructions for georeferencing a JPEG image, creating a shapefile layer, and digitizing features on the georeferenced TIFF image. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of saving the digitized work and verifying it through the attribute table.

PREPARATION OF DIGITISATION

(point, line and polygon features)

STEP 1:- create a folder in a drive and give it a name. Take the jpeg image which
is to be georeferenced and digitised.

STEP 2:-Open QGIS and take the jpeg image from the folder. Then go to open
raster georeferencing.

STEP 3:-A new window will open. Take that jpeg image and put the GCP
(GROUND CONTROL POINT) and give the corresponding latitude and
longitude.

STEP 4:-Open transformation settings and save the transformed image as tiff file.
In transformation settings , give the correct coordinate and datum (WGS 84 and
32645 EPSG UTM)

STEP 5:-Open this georeferenced tiff image in QGIS and go to Layer create
layer new shape file layer.

STEP 6:-A new shape file window will open. The geometry types are as following;
point for point feature(ex-city or town),line for line features(ex-road/railway etc)
and polygon for polygon features(ex-state boundary/district boundary)

STEP 7:-After the creation of Line, point and polygon features click on toggle
editing and take the line, point and polygon features for the digitization of
respective features on georeferenced tiff image.

STEP 8:-After the digitization click on toggle editing to save the digitized work. In
case of polygon features we can proceed in two different ways; a)snapping and
b)split method.

STEP 9:-After the digitization open the attribute table by right clicking on shape
file to cross check the correctly digitised features.
