“The only thing harder than losing a child, as I did, is losing the
hope that one will ever see that child again. Since first meeting
Austyn, and having ever so carefully vetted her abilities, she has
helped many of our Grief Haven parents, spouses, siblings, and
others who have lost someone they love so dearly that they
thought they would lose their minds. One thing they all had in
common after meeting Austyn: hope. Even the naysayers were
changed. Austyn soars into our hearts, homes, and brains as her
gift of immortality with our loved ones gives us hope. She is the
Master of Endless Possibilities. Soul Conversations is a gift of a
book that becomes an earthly guide, a compass that shows us that
by being connected with our loved ones, we can live more soul-
centered lives—lives that are lived from the perspective of
gratitude and remembrance of who we truly are.”
—Susan Whitmore, founder and CEO of Grief Haven
“Austyn’s work in the world is like no other. This book is a
glorious reflection of that—her God-given talent, experience,
study, and wisdom. Part of her work as a ‘validator’ (medium)
shows us that we all continue after death and we can connect with
our loved ones. That in itself is inspiring. Though the greater gift
of this book for me is how Austyn lovingly escorts us back to
ourselves—to recognize and regain the knowledge of our
unlimited beauty and potential, longing to birth into the world.
Most of us have forgotten that. She validates again that all of
those inklings and nudges that seem to have no solid place in this
3-D reality are the ‘real us,’ and are given their rightful place and
acknowledgment. This book is delicious and a delight to revisit,
which is why it is my new bedside book. What an amazing guide
to uncover your personal holographic landscape—the scenery is
fantastic!”

Chicks, end-of-life/hospice educator, EOL doula trainer,
and possibility thinker

Foreword
We are connected to an infinite intelligence some call spirit, source, All, or
God. There is a circle of love that includes all living souls and all souls
who are in spirit; it includes our lives in the physical world and in the
nonphysical domain that souls inhabit between incarnations. The curtain of
death appears to separate these worlds—but this is just illusion, an artifact
of the amnesia we experience at birth. Because our past lives are forgotten,
and our life in spirit is merely a belief, we live on this planet with no idea
of how to connect to the spirit world.
Soul Conversations pulls back the curtain between life and death, and
shows how to enter the circle of love that holds all souls—embodied and in
spirit. This is the first book to show how anyone—not just a medium,
shaman, or psychic—can connect directly to the spirit world. You don’t
have to be an oracle to hear from the other side. There are senses in every
soul that you can tune to the voice of spirit. Austyn Wells reveals how to
use soul senses to access your own spiritual knowledge, as well as voices
far beyond our physical realm. The path for connecting to spirit requires
skills—finding our own wisdom, listening within, using our soul senses,
and attuning to the Spirit (our own spiritual essence, souls on the other
side, guides, and the divine guidance from All).
This book will show you how to recognize the voice of Spirit inside
you. And how to listen to the voices of love and support, invisible yet
powerful, that are all around you. Just as we can learn mindfulness to
discover that we have an awareness beyond our minds, Austyn Wells
shows that we possess the ability to use soul senses to access our own
intuitive truth and the nature of the spirit world.
I am a psychologist and researcher. And I believe in science. But I
also know that the invisible world of spirit has enormous influence on
human experience and well-being. Feeling cut off from Spirit, from the
circle of love, leaves us feeling alone, afraid, and alienated. Without a
relationship to Spirit we are left only to seek pleasure and avoid pain. We
struggle with no clear sense of purpose or connection.
Your soul, and every soul you’ve ever loved, has an infinite light. And
that light, that love, connects and guides us. It is the channel through which
we speak and listen—to each other, to All, and to the divine. Soul
Conversations reveals the secrets of mediums, shamans, and sages who
know how to open this channel. It gives you the power to do what they
have done—talk to Spirit, listen to Spirit, be guided by Spirit.
Begin the process now. Reclaim your place in the circle. Start the
conversation that will liberate you from loss and fear, and help you hear the
support and love that’s all around you.

Books do not happen suddenly. They exist within you. For them to be
birthed, the author needs love, support, and incredible fearlessness to
overcome the doubt that emerges. Therefore, I must recognize the invisible
and visible participants who helped me walk the path to allow Soul
Conversations to emerge.
My spiritually powerful paternal grandmother, Net, told me she would
be more available to me after she died. My spiritual mom, Sally Kienitz,
healed my heart and inspired my discovery of tarot. Robin Charin, a Los
Angeles party planner, scheduled me for a party as a tarot reader before I
felt I was ready, saying “Just keep talking and smile—you will be fine.”
Event planner extraordinaire Debbie Geller trusted me with her gazillion
high-end clients and made me feel like her family. Frank Lucero at
Universal Studios connected me to Maritz and Toyota. At Maritz, Butch
Noland hired me and let me participate in the AST Dew and NBA Jam
Tours so the spirit world could really come crashing in.
John Edward, thank you for walking with me and being so integral. I
honor your insight and will never have the words to express the fullness of
my gratitude for inviting me to join InfiniteQuest.
Robert Brown trusted me and invited me to Edgar Cayce’s
Association for Research and Enlightenment for his annual Spiritual
Retreat. Your heart and deep commitment to our work renders me
speechless.
To the indelible Suzane Northrop, thank you for your friendship.
The loss of a child can inspire tremendous courage and drive within a
parent. Thank you to contributing mothers Deanna and Mary for your
courage and truth. Lydia, thanks for not only contributing, but guiding me
in the final stages of this book. Danny’s entrance into the spirit world
inspired Terri Daniel to create the Afterlife Conference for which I am now
a board member. Terri, thank you for getting all of me and helping me fly.
In my shamanic studies, thank you to Linda Fitch, my pachamama,
for being my mountain.
This book would not have been created without the love and
dedication of the staff at New Harbinger. So many meetings and hours
were put into making Soul Conversations possible. Thank you to marketing
and advertising for shaping the subtitle and Cassie for the superlotto
jackpot final title. Thank you, Amy for the cover art and Michele for
shaping the illustrations. Julie and Lisa, thanks for truly getting what my
book was promising. I found my author voice with the help of Jennifer
Holder and Clancy Drake. Cheers to Melanie Bell for copyediting Soul
Conversations and offering such great insight.
Jordan, thank you for trusting me to tell your dad about the book you
wrote together. I know your dad and mom look for your presence in this
world every day. I have been honored, Matt, to be included in Seeking
Jordan. Thank you for cheering me on this journey.
Catharine, my new lifer pal, you are the single reason I am an author.
To have a publisher who believes in you is a gift all by itself, but your
encouragement and trust has given me wings. May we always fly together.
Marissa Pastor, thank you for your talent and flexibility to draw
another kind of universe.
To my husband, Justin, for knowing who I was before I did and not
thinking any of this is weird. Thanks, bestie Jane, for being forever Dory
and saying just the right thing at the right time. To my soul sista Heather
for being constantly inspiring and pushing my limits to help me find more
within myself. To my soul brother, medium Chris Drew, for being a true
friend and someone I cannot wait to see fly higher.
I would not be writing this if it were not for my clients. Thank you for
trusting me with your families, friends, and pets. To the invisible world for
letting me speak on your behalf. To my spiritual family, footed and furred,
especially Pastor Judy and Kahea.
Finally, to my dad. I know you have been part of this journey. I miss
you every day. Thanks for all the ways you still make me feel like the
luckiest daughter alive.
Introduction
In ancient Egypt, the heart was seen as part of the soul. Unlike the rest of
the organs, the heart remained within the body when a person was
mummified. The ancient Egyptians believed that in order to enter the
afterlife, all souls were judged on how they lived. To determine this
integrity, a soul’s heart was placed upon a large scale and weighed against
the ostrich feather of Maat, the goddess of cosmic order. If the heart
weighed the same as the feather, that soul had lived a true and just life.
If you weighed your heart against a feather, how would you do? I ask
this because the only way to shift how we live is by living from our soul
and allowing all of our exchanges to be soul conversations.
I have always believed that each person upon this earth is miraculous.
I know this because my work allows me to see the most authentic you:
your soul. I am a medium and soul gardener. I came up with the term “soul
gardener” because it is an umbrella for the other skills I combine:
shamanism, hypnotherapy, grief counseling, remote viewing, and energy
medicine. I am blessed to teach classes and speak at conferences. I train
intuitives and mediums, as well as mentor people in how to create soul-
centered lives.
I was one of the geeky kids who loved school and woke up every day
eager to find out what gifts the day held. When I was nine, every morning
and every afternoon, I would walk to the bus stop near my house. Like
clockwork, my neighbor’s dog Mickey would wait for me. I didn’t realize
it was odd that we could talk to each other. I relished our daily hug and his
lick fest. One morning, I heard him say to me, “Thank you for being my
friend. I will miss you.” I was not sure if I had misunderstood him, but my
bus soon came and I went to the back of the bus to watch Mickey as he
disappeared from my view.
Mickey was hit by a car later that morning and died.
I was devastated. However, his death posed many questions for me.
How did he know he was going to die? Does everyone know on some
level? That experience inspired questions which have become my life’s
passion to explore.
As a child, I had an easy exchange with the spirit world. I knew if I
prayed for someone, they could get better. I was not doing the healing, just
creating a conduit for them to receive love. I have always believed in God
or a power greater than my own. Although I was exposed to different
religions and pathways to God, I found what works best for me is a
personal path that allows me to authentically explore my soul or my
connection within the universe.
My soul is the truest essence of me. It is timeless, loving, and capable
of anything. When I am soul-centered, I am playful, grateful, and peaceful.
I am reminded that I am part of everything and everyone around me. With
that awareness, I know my actions affect everyone, as I am part of
everything. I know that I am here to learn and grow. I do not seek
perfection, but I yearn to be the best version of me by being 100 percent
responsible for everything I do, say, think, and intend.
I have always been intuitive, able to sense and feel the people and life
around me. I began to realize that this is not a unique gift, but rather a
greater ability available to everyone. By seeing everything as connected, I
began to understand how the language of the soul is love, because it is with
deep compassion and empathy that we create peace, harmony, and unity.
As I grew up, my awareness of the soul diminished as I became
distracted by the circumstances of my life. Although I was rather blessed
on the outside, I was conflicted within. I had an overwhelming joy, yet
there was a deep sadness and sensitivity that I often dismissed. The more I
reached outside of myself for acceptance, the more my soul-centered
awareness and spiritual nature faded. Other people’s actions deeply
impacted my confidence and security, or their words crashed in and I felt a
part of me retreat.
Therapy was helpful. It taught me that what I was feeling and
experiencing was necessary. However, there was still something missing.
The more I told the stories about my past unfinished business, the more
frequently the same types of problems appeared. My life became repetitive
and I was flummoxed. I needed to have a key to me.
FEELING MY SOUL
Although I had worked as an intuitive for years, I had never considered
how I was able to sense information that was known only to other people’s
souls. It was as if I would momentarily become them and know what their
life felt like. I would feel their disappointments and longings, as well as
how their individual soul graced the world. To satiate my curiosity, I began
studying energy medicine. It demanded a new kind of focused attention, a
deep listening. At first, I felt very little, but as my mind relaxed and I tuned
in to what I was feeling without expectation, an entire universe opened for
me. As I progressed in my studies, I found it magical just how many
rhythms existed within the body. I could certainly sense a pulse or the
blood flow, but what I started perceiving was beyond the literal structure or
fluid movements within the body. I discovered that within our physical self
there are diverse rhythms that function like an orchestra playing the song of
our health and vitality. The more I listened, the more was revealed. My
energy studies helped me to understand the connection between my
intuition and the curative nature of our soul. I noticed how our beliefs,
choices, families, and lifestyles create an atmosphere that surrounds our
souls, which deeply affects the way our lives unfold.
I began to hear and feel things about people while I was listening to
their personal energy rhythms. Sometimes wisdom would whisper near my
ear or I would see snippets of their memories in my mind. Although the
client would experience a renewed sense of well-being and inner peace, the
greater takeaway for me was that I was not doing the healing. I simply was
creating a sacred space for their soul to facilitate its own healing.
Through my Western and Eastern energy medicine studies I began to
recognize that our body is a beautifully functioning super machine whose
majesty reflects how we live and what we do. The energy practices stressed
that a whole or integrated self was a balance of our body, emotions, mind,
and spiritual well-being demanding our consistent tending.
MY SOUL CALL
As my energy sensitivities increased, so did my access to the souls in the
spirit world. I became hungry to learn anything and everything I could
