PREFACE
The discovery of words is one of life’s greatest adventures. My quest to
discover the enormous energy of words started many, many years ago when
a good friend and health-care professional, Loren Schuh, gave me one word
to say in order to prevent injury when lifting heavy cartons. I tried it, and
my body immediately jumped to attention—just by saying a single word!
And it wasn’t an action word, like a verb; it was just a simple, single noun.
(Later you’ll be surprised by what this very effective word is.)
I wondered then, if a specific, simple noun can stimulate a precise and
very active response, what kind of power can be lurking in the other words
we speak? I was determined to find out. Of course, this quest wasn’t
entirely new for me. The origins and meanings of words have long been a
curiosity and even a passion of mine. Words communicate, but when their
energy is focused, words take on a new life. They can become weapons in
an arsenal, beacons in the dark, and catalysts for indescribable power. It is
this power, this force of words—apart from all else—that began to fascinate
me and move me in a very literal way.
When you say to someone, “I give you my word,” it’s meant to convey a
promise. It’s an absolute, unwavering promise of some future action or
some unimpeachable truth. As I studied and worked with the energy of
words, I began to realize that I was “giving my word” with every word I
spoke or thought. Just imagine the kind of power you have at hand when
each word holds the promise of action and a proclamation of truth!
It was this promise of action and truth that led me to understand and
work with the energy of words in two different ways: Words that trigger
action and Words that lift you to a higher truth. And these two are the uses
of word energy that I’d like to share with you in this book.
Although many of the words in the following pages certainly are
positive, this is not a book about positive thinking. There have been many
books about that subject written over the years, indeed over the centuries,
but this is not one of them. This book is about using the energy of precise
words to lift your own energy and to stimulate immediate mental,
emotional, and physical responses. Some of these words may be new to
you, but many of them are words you have known all your life. It is the
energy of words that will cause you to experience them differently than you
ever have before.
After a lifetime of using words only for their meaning and not for their
force, it may be challenging to work with words in this new way. But
learning to link with the force beyond meaning simply requires focus and
discipline, which are readily available when you decide that optimum
power and success are worth a little effort!
So try some of the Trigger Words and Lifting Words in this book for
yourself. The old days of blithely using words for mere communication will
be behind you, and you’ll find yourself wanting to tap the great force that
hides inside every single word. Like me, you’ll discover that Power Words
will do far more than just help you lift heavy cartons. They’ll help you lift
every endeavor, relationship, feeling, job, and experience to undreamed of
heights and unparalleled joy!

THE NATURE OF WORDS

Words create undeniable power in the world. You’ve seen for yourself
how words can inflate, crush, encourage, disappoint, and excite through
your own life and across the world stage. In World War II, Hitler’s words
spurred the Nazis toward heinous action, while Churchill’s and Roosevelt’s
words rallied a world against them.
Even beyond this, words do much more than merely influence the people
who hear or read them. They carry their own power and are an integral part
of your electromagnetic field. They put out energy, and they attract the
same type of energy to you. They also attract the people and situations that
resonate to their energy. Because of this, words can become your most
significant resource in manifesting the success you seek and in living a
powerful and incandescent life.
Throughout this book, we’ll be working with words that you can use for
a multitude of reasons—making business decisions, weight loss, help with
creative projects, muscle strength, communication, healing, financial
investments, relationships, breaking addictions, tasks at work, and much
more. In all of these, you’ll be able to apply the energy of specific words for
each task.
I call these words Power Words. And although they are not a new
language, they are words that can be used in a new and different way. But in
order to use a word’s energy, you need to know the word’s energy as well as
its focus, feeling, and meanings at a deeper, inner level. For this you must
really take the time to do the processes in this book—even if it’s just for a
minute or two. Once you open yourself to the power of words, you will be
able to use them to trigger big results in every part of your life.
The Genesis Word
“In the beginning was the Word . . .”

The above quote is just one of many from the Bible that indicate the
creative power of a word. It’s not surprising that creation stories from
around the world also begin with a word. Imagine what it would be like to
see each word as a potential new beginning—the genesis of your future.
Energetically it is!
Born from Word Power
Close your eyes and imagine that your entire future is bourne on the
energy of your next word. It is the genesis—the birth and beginning—
of what is to come for you. What word would you choose?
Choose it now, and take a moment to fill yourself with that word.
Feel it, and see your whole life infused with its energy. Picture the
actions that are born from this word, and sense the future it brings.
You can also use this process every morning to discover the genesis of
your day. And you can use it any time to see what new beginning lies in that
very moment. Whatever word you sense as your genesis, let it become a
focus word for you. Really feel its energy; use it throughout your day, and
see what it triggers for you. With your genesis words, you can take the steps
to give rise to a whole new creation story of your own!
Word Energy You Can See and Feel
In his book The Hidden Messages in Water, Japanese scientist Dr. Masaru
Emoto demonstrated the enormous power of words through photographs of
water crystals under various conditions, including words that were shown
and spoken to the water. Positive words (such as wisdom, angel, thank you)
as well as kind sentiments (You’re cute and You’re beautiful) all formed
more complete, beautiful, and symmetrical, crystals. But negative words
and sentiments—such as Satan, You fool!, You make me sick, and I will kill
you—created very incomplete, deformed, and quite ugly crystals.
Which do you think had the best influence of any of the words tested? “I
have found the most beautiful crystal of all,” said Emoto. “The one created
by love and gratitude.”
Here’s a brief process that lets you experience for yourself a little of what
Emoto’s water crystals experienced. The following are two very common,
yet highly charged, emotional words that allow you to sense their energy
easily.
Word Power Comparison
Close your eyes. For a few moments, simply think of the word hate.
Really hold the idea in your mind and heart. Breathe the energy of the
word hate into your body. Begin to notice how you feel emotionally
and physically with the word hate filling your energy.
After a few moments take a deep breath and exhale—letting go of
that word and its energy completely. Now replace it with the word
love. As your breath gently comes and goes, fill every part of yourself
with the energy of the word love. Feel the quality of love throughout
every part of you. Notice how you feel in body, mind, and heart. After
several moments of purposefully filling yourself with the word love,
notice the love you feel—even for little things. Open your eyes, still
filled with this serene and happy energy.
In this process, it was probably easy for you to sense the energy of these
very different and emotionally charged words. The word hate may have
made you recall people you dislike or people who have hurt you. You
