 This paper consists of three examination items. It has two sections; A and B.
 Attempt all the items in section A. Answers to this item must be written in the spaces provided
in this booklet.
 Section B has two items attempt only one item from this section.
 Any additional item attempted will not be scored.

SECTION A

Item 1:
Teso College Aloet is hosting a "Science Fair Market Day." Each student group has been assigned a stall
showcasing products related to a specific scientific field. One group, the "Chem Wizards," has a stall
filled with various items, but some of which include A small vial of a sweet-smelling liquid (Perfume), A
piece of brightly colored plastic, A small bag of fertilizer pellets, A tube of toothpaste.

"Welcome, curious minds! We challenge you to identify the products on our stall and explain their uses
in our daily life. For each item you correctly identify and explain, you'll earn a 'Chem Credit.' The group
with the most Chem Credits wins!"

Item 2:
In chemistry, chemical experiments require a special room for carrying them out. Although some
experiments may be done outside in an open place. This place is called a laboratory.

It's however important that utmost caution is taken while in the laboratory to ensure safety for everyone
carrying out the experiment.

The figure below shows unsafe behaviour from learners at Pelican High School in a chemistry
laboratory.

You have been contacted as a knowledgeable person to come and speak to these learners.

Task;
As a chemistry learner, write a message you will give upon meeting them. In your message, using the
figure above, identify any three (3) unsafe behaviours exhibited by the students of Pelican High School,
identify two (2) safety precautions taken by some of the learners, write an advice you would give them
to ensure they stay safe while in the chemistry laboratory.

Item 3:
A debate struck amongst senior one learners at Kiyala High School about Chemistry as one of the
prestigious subjects studied as they were relating it to different activities in the society. One group of
learners claimed that those who study chemistry only become chemistry teachers while another group
claimed that there are many careers related to the study of chemistry. This brought a lot of arguments
amongst the two groups. You were then invited to come and give a rightful information to make the two
come into a common understanding.

Task:
As a chemistry learner, write a message you will deliver upon invitation. (Your message should include
any three other careers related to the study of chemistry and a brief description of how the chemistry
knowledge is applied in the careers identified). (8 Scores)
