Topic: The role of education in combating Extremisim
Introduction
Global peace and security are profoundly challenged by extremism and
radicalization, which affect people, communities, and even nations. These ideologies
are often nurtured in spaces characterized by ignorance, marginalization, and a
failure to meaningfully engage with varying worldviews. In this regard, education is
perhaps the most potent tool in the fight against radicalism because it cultivates
awareness, critical thought, and understanding among people from different
cultures.
Objective of the Study
This study seeks to analyze the counter-extremism and educational approaches to
preventing violent extremism in the context of education. It investigates how
extremists’ destructive narratives can be countered through education, particularly
empowering the youth to actively reject violent ideologies.
Research Questions
What is the role of an educational institution in preventing radicalization and
extremism, if any?
What types of instructional design best promote acceptance, critical
thinking, and civic engagement among the learners?
How does reduction of socioeconomic disparities through education
mitigate the use of extremist ideologies?
What has been the impact of education on extremism in some selected
countries (i.e. Pakistan, Germany, and Rwanda)?
Significance of the Study
To inform an educational policy, this research seeks justify its relevance to
strengthen peace education into the ethos of general education.
