District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar has directed the commercial


establishments in Coimbatore to erect Tamil name boards by May 15. A committee led by
the District Collector and comprising of officials from the Labour Department, Industrial
Health and Safety Department, Tamil Development Department, Local Administration,
Merchants Association, Hoteliers and federation of industry will inspect the
establishments to ensure compliance to the Government directive. Notices would be served
on non-compliant establishments and a fine would be levied, he said.
Meanwhile, DMK functionary Race Course Raghunath on Tuesday petitioned the
Corporation Commissioner to take steps to remove caste names from the name board of
streets.
