Outlines/descriptions along with official transcripts in order to complete the assessment. Completed files will normally
be reviewed within two weeks (a file is considered complete once the application, fee and official supporting
documents are received). We will send a PDF letter of acceptance by email and the original will be mailed to the

assessment can take 2-8 weeks after an offer of admission is sent.
Recently, Cape Breton University has been reviewing its processes to improve its enrolment management
activities and enhance the overall student experience. As a result, several changes are being made to its
admissions and registration processes. The goal is to ensure a positive experience for all students.
The new processes will ensure that students have lots of time to:
Apply to a desired Cape Breton University program;
Accept their offer of admission; and
apply for a study permit before the start of classes.
Students are strongly encouraged to review CBU Academic Policies before accepting their offer of admission.
The tuition deposit fee is non-refundable. The only circumstance in which a refund will be issued is if the student
is denied a study permit and has not yet started studying at CBU. If this is the case, the student can apply for a
tuition deposit refund through the Student Finance Office. If the student meets the requirements, the tuition
deposit will be refunded minus a $500 administration fee. Learn more about CBU’s Refund Policy here.

deadline if there are still seats available. It is encouraged that students review all CBU policies and research Cape
Breton Island before accepting their offer of admissions. Students should accept their offer of admission as soon
What if a student waits to accept their offer of admission and the program becomes full?
Students are encouraged to accept their offer of admission as soon as possible. If a student waits to accept their
offer of admission and their program becomes full, then, the student will be offered a seat in the next available
intake as reflected on their Notice of Acceptance.
Admission is not final until the student accepts the offer of admission and pays the $2500 tuition deposit. The
Notice of Acceptance is considered conditional until the tuition deposit is paid to Cape Breton University.
Can a student apply for a VISA without accepting the offer of admission?
Students should not apply for a VISA before accepting their offer of admission. A student will require the tuition
deposit receipt to apply for a study permit.
It is unlikely. When a student arrives at a port of entry, a Canada Border Services Agent will review their file and
documentation. The Notice of Acceptance from CBU indicates that a tuition deposit of $2500 is required to finalize
admissions. If the student’s study permit file is not showing a tuition deposit paid, they will not get into the
country.
No, students will not be able to register for any classes until the offer of admission is accepted and the tuition
deposit is paid.
What happens if a student arrives at CBU but has not accepted their offer of admission?
If a student enters the country without paying their tuition deposit and arrives at CBU before finalizing their
admissions, they will be sent back to their home country and IRCC will be alerted. Admissions to Cape Breton
University is not finalized until the student accepts their offer and pays the tuition deposit fee.
