Basement 01 First floor slab

After casting of basement level 01 slab, during the Raft casting, parallelly first
floor also can be constructed.
WHY WE ARE GOING WITH TOP-DOWN METHOD CONSTRUCTION

• 1. Space constraints & Obstructions for Anchorage system

A) As per design, minimum Anchorage length required is ranging from 14m to 20m. Same is not
available towards Apartment side.
WHY WE GOING WITH TOP-DOWN METHOD CONSTRUCTION
• 2. Difficult for Installation & Removing “Strut & Waller” system

• A) Huge Structural Materials required for Strut and Waller arrangement.

• B) There is no Crane access for Installing & removing Struts.
• C) Manual shifting time will not match for this project.
With conventional soldier pile with Strut and Waller

Note: Both Excavation & Retaining wall (by D-wall method) payment will explore to get from client for which
necessary scheme/GFC drawing shall be prepared accordingly.
CONCLUSION OF TOP-
TOP-DOWN METHOD
• As per site condition, one side Indian Railways running line and other side private High-
rise Apartment, due to which, there is no access along length of the building.
• As per design, minimum Anchorage length required is ranging from 14m to 20m. Same
is not available due to Obstruction of High-rise building Basement floors (2 numbers)
• Towards Railway side, Space in between proposed Station building and Railway boundary
is very less, we cannot provide shoring arrangement.
• In Safety point of view, shoring arrangement with secant pile/soldier pile not suitable for
protection & safety of existing Railway Boundary during construction period of 7 to 8
months.
• In Construction of Bottom-up method, time cycle is more and not matching with KD
requirements.
• Installation & Material Cost of “Secant pile/soldier pile along with Waller beam with
Strut/Anchoring can be saved.
• Casting of Basement level-01 & Ground level slab Staging work can be avoided and cost
saved.
• Similar type Top-Down construction project is going on at Chennai.
• Ground level casted slab will act as a Strut and Waller support in Top-Down method.
• As per concern of Designer, the Tender Schematic drawing “Raft foundation along with
Retaining wall” will not cater design requirements.
• After thorough review of site along with DDC designer input, it is better to go for
construction of Retaining wall (by D-wall Method) and two basements with Top-Down
Method.

Hence we are preferring Top-Down method for YPR Station construction.
