VISA STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

NAME: NIDHIBEN SHAILESHKUMAR PATEL

COLLEGE: GEORGIAN COLLEGE

PROGRAM: GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN FOOD AND NUTRITION MANAGEMENT

INTAKE: MAY 2023

INTRODUCTION

I would present myself as Patel Nidhiben Shaileshkumar, daughter of Mr Patel Shaileshbhai

Ramabhai and Mrs Patel Ramilaben Shaileshbhai, a permanent resident of India. I want to be a
part of Georgian College to pursue the Graduate Certificate in Food & Nutrition Management.

Health is an essential component of one's overall health and well-being. A well-balanced diet
keeps the body active and in shape. Raising awareness about the kind of food that people should
consume has always been something that intrigued me since my younger years. Studying Food
and Nutrition Management these days can help to gain knowledge on the taste of food, its health
benefits, and the means of maintaining food quality. This Certificate Program aims to offer a
detailed review of current material, dietary challenges, and concerns, as well as their effect on
mental, psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. This course focuses on inculcating in
the minds of graduates the necessary knowledge of food compositions, the quality, and safety of
food, the ability of metabolism relationships, the use of nutrients in food by the human body,
with an advanced understanding of the influence of exercises. In addition to conducting study
work, candidates must take part in nutritional demonstrations, preparations, workshops, and
group meetings. It can be a lucrative career choice for those with great interest in the field of
food science and nutrition.

Previously, I applied to Fleming College for an undergraduate program in Environmental

technician for the September 2022 intake, but it was refused by the Visa officer. I received my
second refusal letter from Georgian College for the PG diploma in Food and Nutrition
Management. Hence, I will try to expand on my reasons for travelling to Canada and the
relevancy of my chosen course through this statement.

ACADEMICS

A student's journey so far can be measured through extracurricular achievements and grades. I
have always been a passionate and dedicated learner at school. My academic journey has been
rewarding, beginning in grade 10 in 2015, I gave my Senior secondary examination and scored
63.28 %. Soon after, I was promoted to Higher secondary school in 2017 and passed the exams
with 49.56% from New Era High School affiliated with Gujrat Secondary & Higher Secondary
Education Board. My subjects in grade 12 were Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Computers.

After my school results were declared in 2017, I had to choose a bachelor's degree and
considering my background in science with the non-medical stream, I decided to pursue a
Bachelor's of Science (Industrial Chemistry) from ITM Vocational University in 2017. By the end
of my graduation in 2020, I scored an 8.1 CGPA. As a specialized course in Industrial chemistry,
the modules I studied during my graduation years were Basic Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry,
Physics, Environmental Sciences, Inorganic Chemistry, Transport of Fluids, Industrial Safety,
Organic Chemistry, Industrial Instrumentation and Process Control. In the last semester of my
course, I also went through an Industrial Internship and Project presentation to have an overall
experience of practical learning in labs. All these modules and specialization in Chemistry
influenced my decision to study abroad.

WORK EXPERIENCE

After my Bachelors of Science program in Industrial Chemistry, I joined Ramson Industries as an

Executive in the Quality Assurance and Quality Check department from August 2020 to
December 2022. During my engagement in the department, my job included Checking raw
materials, maintaining a complete record of production, and weighing raw materials.

While working as an Executive, I always thought of studying overseas. I am thoroughly

passionate about learning more about the challenges that come the way of a career. I see that
institutions are excelling with what they offer students regarding education and exposure. The
colleges from developed countries stand amongst the world's finest colleges, and graduates
from these colleges are most sought after. The subjects I studied in my past years will be helpful
in this particular course. To add to this, in my work - a field I also managed accounts and
handled finance. Moreover, during my internship I had in Vasu healthcare to make ayurvedic
products (multivitamin tablets), I realized that I require better knowledge to further satisfy the
growing need of top-notch quality checks and high nutritional value in food items. I finally came
to a conclusion and decided to pursue a course in Food and Nutrition Management.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY:

As soon as I decided to seek higher education abroad, I began studying for the IELTS exam to
improve my English language proficiency. I achieved an overall 6.5 band on 19/03/2022. The
next part offers a module-by-module assessment of my English language proficiency.

PURPOSE OF STUDYING IN CANADA:

Many factors push Canada to the front stage of study abroad options, ranging from its high
technological standard, natural environment, and high-quality education system, and list goes
on and on. Education in Canada is recognized worldwide for its excellent academic standards
and the Canadian universities' top-tier rankings. Canada is also recognized as one of the most
educated countries in the world. Degrees from Canadian universities are highly valued
worldwide, given that the Canadian Government spends more on education than any other
country. These degrees are considered to have the same competency as other countries. There
is no denying that the universities in Canada tailor the degrees according to the needs and
interests of the students so that students can inter-relate their courses, applied theories, and
research techniques in the future. Also, the education system emphasizes providing practical
knowledge, which will give a real-time work environment. Studying in Canada is an opportunity
to experience a multicultural environment where we can meet fellow international students,
which helps us gain a global approach. International students find Canada a haven with a very
welcoming and warm society, with people from different countries migrating for work or a
better quality of life. My visit to Canada is solely for my studies. Having obtained a degree in
business, I intend to further equip myself with adequate skills and qualifications to accompany
my career in the industry. I found the course offered by Algoma University modules up to date
with recent technologies, which would maximize employability prospects.

WHY AM I NOT PURSUING A SIMILAR PROGRAM IN INDIA?

The Visa officer may also have concerns about why I am striving to continue my education in
Canada. This is because of the value of an international degree in India. A similar course is
available in Indian institutes, but the courses lack certain aspects needed to advance to a higher
level in career. I do not pursue this type of program in India as the Indian education system has
several disadvantages. The coursework is theoretical and only focuses on the exam orientation
curriculum. A practical approach is given the least priority because students are underprepared
for jobs and are left unemployed. This fact is true even with a Master's level education.
Moreover, the colleges in India do not have an internationally recognized curriculum or such
colleges. Adding more to that, there are more than the permitted number of students per class,
due to which the teacher cannot give attention to every individual, as such even when a
Canadian degree costs much, it is far better and a logical choice to make when compared to a
degree from India, and so I decided to pursue this course from Canada.

Thus, from the above-given explanation, I think that the doubt of the many reasons adding up to
making a consistent doubt regarding my stay in Canada with my purpose of visit and the details
provided for my visit is made clear. To sum it up, my only goal in pursuing this education is to
start my journey with a higher-level job designation in India, which will be a head start in my
job. My previous education and my life have served as my motivation to move further and act as
a driving force for me to pursue this education for a better future. Pursuing this course at this
point in time is the most logical step to take and also forms my purpose of visiting.
