Questions
Provide answers to all the questions below:

1. List two ways to identify an organisation’s standards and values.

- Assess the organizations current culture. The first step is to establish a

baseline for your culture. When it comes to assessing your company's brand,
you need to look at it from a different perspective than what you believe it
represents or what you want it to reflect. What are the perceptions of your
company both inside and outside the organization?

- Review the organizations business plan. It's critical to establish your values
early on in the process since your company strategy is tightly linked to your
corporate culture. Executives from your company should meet to devise a
strategy for the company's development and expansion.

2. Discuss the difference between stated and implied organisational values.

The definition of implied is something that was hinted at or suggested, but not
directly stated. People's behaviors in all of the organization's operations are
guided and motivated by stated values, which are stated publicly and
unequivocally. On the other hand, implicit values are things that all
organizations believe in, such as "honesty," "fairness," and "integrity." While
these are expected, they may not be documented or communicated properly.

3. List three behaviours that are expected of a leader in a workplace.

-Effective Leaders are assertive and accountable.

-Motivate their team and understand everyone

-Approachable to Encourage Communication well and Collaboration

4. Outline two features of each basic leadership theory provided in the
table below.

Leadership theory Description

The great man theory The impact of great men, or heroes, on
history can be largely explained by their
natural attributes, such as superior
intellect, heroic courage, extraordinary
leadership abilities, or divine inspiration;
highly influential and unique individuals
who, due to their natural attributes, such
as superior intellect, heroic courage,
extraordinary leadership abilities, or
divine inspiration, can have a significant
impact on history.
The relationship theory Leadership theory, also known as
Relationship theories, focuses on the
relationship between the leaders and
followers. We form connections with
people we find beautiful, according to
this theory. Physical, closeness, and
likeness are the three degrees of
attraction, encouraging their followers to
transform and become better at a task.
The situational theory Like the Contingency Theory, the
Situational Theory stresses the
importance of situational variables and
doesn't consider anyone's leadership
style to be better than the others.
Implies that there is no one-size-fits-all
approach to leadership. Instead, it is
determined by the style of leadership
and techniques that are most
appropriate for the situation.

5. Provide a brief description of each of the following common leadership styles

in the table below.

Leadership style Description
Coach Collaboration, empowerment, and fulfilment are
characteristics of this leadership style.

Servant The servant leadership style is founded on the belief that

leaders should put the greater good ahead of themselves.
This type of leader puts their team and company first. They
don't put their own goals first. Instead, servant leadership
prioritizes the people and their needs.
Laissez-faire Leaders that practice laissez-faire management have a
or hands-off trusting and reliant attitude toward their personnel. They
don't micromanage or become overly engaged, and they
don't provide excessive instruction or direction. They
provide direction and accept responsibility when necessary,
but their leadership style allows subordinates and team
members to take the lead.
Visionary A visionary leader ensures that the vision is realized by
declaring clear goals, laying out a strategic plan to achieve
those goals, and equipping and enabling each team
member to put the plan into action at the organizational,
team, and individual levels.
Autocratic or Is a leadership style in which the leader has complete
authoritarian control over all decisions and receives minimal feedback
from the rest of the organization. Autocratic leaders rarely
take input from followers and make decisions based on their
own views and opinions.
Democratic Is a form of leadership style in which group members have
a more active role in decision-making.

Pacesetter A pacesetter leader is fixated on getting things done better

and quicker than everyone else. He sets a high standard for
himself and the rest of the team. He takes satisfaction in the
fact that he never asks anybody to do anything he wouldn't
do himself.
Bureaucratic Is based on a clear line of command, stringent regulations,
and follower conformity. The distinction between
bureaucratic and autocratic leadership, which share some
features, can be a source of misunderstanding.

6. Briefly describe an organisation’s process for raising questions about

standards and values.

-Brainstorm with a team what are the principal tha matter the most. This
variety of inputs and outputs may be found in organizations that include
materials, information, and people, among other things. New product creation,
order fulfilment, and customer support are all examples of processes; less
visible, but as acceptable, options include resource allocation and decision-
making. A standard is a method of doing anything that is repeatable,
harmonised, agreed upon, and recorded. Standards are technical
specifications or other exact criteria that are intended to be applied
consistently as a rule, guideline, or definition.

Activities
Complete the following activities:

1. Carefully read the following:

This project requires you to lead a team by modelling high standards of conduct to
reflect the organisation’s standards and values. As part of the assessment, you will:
1 develop and implement a performance plan for a team
2 develop and implement a performance plan for an individual
Vocational education and training is all about gaining and developing practical skills
that are industry relevant and that can help you to succeed in your chosen career.
For this reason, we are giving you the choice to base this project on your own
workplace, or you can use the case study provided. This will mean that you are
applying your knowledge and skills in a relevant, practical, and meaningful way to
your own situation!
If you are using the case study, you will use the information provided in the
Simulation Pack and you may select any of the case study teams that form part of
the organisation on which to base your project. You must assume the role of
manager for your chosen team and the team must consist of at least two members
(excluding yourself).
To complete this assessment using a real workplace, you must be in a leadership
role and have responsibility for the work and performance of at least two workers. It
is important that you are able to access enough information for your chosen
workplace in order to be able to do your assessment. As a minimum this should
include workplace documentation (e.g., Strategic Plan) and policies and procedures
that relate to management performance (e.g., Code of Conduct, position
description).
You will need to communicate with a team as well as an individual team member,
when developing performance plans. Your communication may be either directly
with actual team members or fellow students/your assessor can play the roles of
relevant people/parties. Communication can be in any appropriate format (e.g., face
to face, video conference, email) as long as it meets the requirements outlined in
each activity step.
You will be collecting evidence for this unit in a Project Portfolio. The steps you
need to take are outlined below.

2. Preparation

Make sure you are familiar with the organisation you are basing this assessment on
and have read through the necessary background information. For the case study,
this is all of the documents included in the Simulation Pack. If it’s your own
workplace or a business where you are working, have your business or case study
approved by your assessor.
Complete Page 4 of your Project Portfolio for this unit.
Read through the requirements of Section 1, 2 and 3 of your Project Portfolio.

3. Identify the requirements for your own performance

Next Review: Oct 2022
You must identify the organisation’s requirements for management performance by
reviewing workplace documents such as, the Strategic Plan, the organisation’s
standards and values for conducting business, as well as any policies and
procedures relating to management performance.
If you are basing the assessment on a real workplace, locate and review the
relevant workplace documents. If you are basing your assessment on the case
study, refer to the Simulation Pack.
Complete Section 1 of your Project Portfolio. In order to do this, you need to:
 Identify at least three organisational requirements for management
performance based on the organisation’s values and standards (if using the
case study, refer to the Code of Conduct)
 Identify at least three qualities required for positive management performance
according to the organisation’s policies and procedures (if using the case
study, refer to the Code of Conduct)
 Identify at least three of the organisation’s objectives relevant to your team
 Describe how your own performance will contribute to upholding organisational
values

4. Develop and implement performance plans

You must develop a performance plan for your team as well as a separate plan for
one member of the team. You will discuss these plans and establish KPIs during a
meeting with the team in the next activity step.
If you are basing the assessment on your own workplace, you will develop one plan
for your work team and you may select any team member to develop a plan for.
If you are using the case study, you will develop a plan for your chosen team, as
well a plan for any individual on that team.
Use the Team Performance Plan Template in Section 1 of your Project Portfolio to
do the following:
 List at least three team objectives (you may establish any three suitable
objectives that align with organisational objectives)
 List at least three responsibilities or main tasks for the team
 List at least three outcomes for the team that are measurable
You will complete the last column of the Team Performance Plan Template after
your meeting in the next activity step.
Also select an individual member of the team to develop a Performance Plan for.
You may use workplace documents or research a suitable position description for
this individual’s role in order to establish goals and outcomes.
Use the Individual Performance Plan Template in Section 1 of your Project Portfolio
to do the following:
 List at least three goals this individual would have in relation to their role
 List at least three key responsibilities or tasks this individual will have as part of
their role.

 List at least three outcomes that are measurable
You will complete the last column of the Individual Performance Plan Template after
your breakout session in the next activity step.

5. Establish KPI’s and implement performance plans

Meet with your team to discuss the performance plans you developed and set KPIs.
After the team meeting you will have a breakout session of 10 minutes with the
individual team member that you developed a Performance Plan for. The team
meeting should last for 15 minutes and the breakout session for 10 minutes. You
may meet in-person or online, and you must attach evidence of your meeting and
breakout session to the end of Section 1 of your Project Portfolio.
If you are basing the assessment on a real workplace, you will meet with at least
two members of your work team.
If you are using the case study, you may meet with two fellow students playing the
roles of your team members. They may use their own suggestions/feedback to
contribute to the meeting.
You may make changes to the Performance Plan you developed, using team
member feedback.
At the meeting, you must:
 explain the team objectives and how they align with organisational objectives
 Ask the team to identify three organisational values they are working according
to
 facilitate agreement within the team to establish measurable KPIs for team
tasks. Use the last column of the Team Performance Plan to record the KPIs.
At the end of the team meeting, you must have a 10-minute breakout session with
the team member that you developed an individual performance plan for.
At this meeting, you must:
 explain their individual goals and how they align with team objectives
 ask the team member to identify three organisational values they are working
according to
 establish measurable KPIs for tasks. Use the last column of the Individual
Performance Plan to record the KPIs.
During the meeting and breakout session, you must comply with organisational
standards and values and communicate effectively, including:
 using suitable language when discussing organisational objectives and values
 communicating in a way that contributes to the integrity and credibility of the
organisation
After the meeting, use team and individual responses to assess whether
organisational values are being observed. Also record this in Section 1 of your
Project Portfolio, by completing the questions.
Attach evidence of your meeting and breakout session to the end of Section 1 of
your Project Portfolio.
Make sure you have answered all questions in Section 1. Submit to your assessor
for review.

You are also required to attach certain documents as part of your evidence – review
the documents you need to attach as outlined in Section 1 of the Project
Portfolio and make sure you attach these upon submission.

6. Align behaviour with organisational values

Assume that the team have been working according to the implemented
Performance Plans for some time. You must identify at least two
performance/behaviour issues caused by the team or a team member not working
according to organisational values. You may use the Internet to gather information
relevant to the issues and identify possible solutions.
If you are basing the assessment on a real workplace, you may identify the issues
by observing the team, listening to team/individual feedback or evaluating
performance against established KPIs.
If you are using the case study, you may assume the following:
The team has been effective overall, but collaboration within the team hasn’t been
as good as it could be and there is conflict between team members.
One team member is performing poorly due to a lack of time management skills.
Use Section 2 of your Project Portfolio to:
 Describe at least two issues and possible solutions for each issue
 the associated risks for each of the options
 record your preferred course of action to resolve each issue
If you are basing your assessment on a real workplace, keep in mind that you must
be able to implement your decisions, in order to monitor the impact on team and/or
individual performance and evaluate whether the actions taken leads to the
resolution of the issues.

7. Develop a plan to implement decisions

Meet with the team and/or the relevant individual team members to develop an
Action Plan for implementing decisions. You must consider what to communicate
with whom and this may mean that you will have more than one meeting. You will
need team/team member agreement on the course of action to be taken and
discuss the decisions, allowing their participation (e.g., asking for their suggestions
and feedback). Each meeting should be 10 minutes long and may take place in
person or online.
If you are using the case study, you will meet the same students as before, playing
the roles of your team members. They may use their own suggestions/feedback to
contribute to the meeting. Make sure that you are contributing your own unique
ideas as the assessor will be looking to see that original ideas and suggestions are
occurring from each student being assessed.
Complete the questions in Section 2 of your Project Portfolio and use the Action
Plan Template to record the details of the meeting.

team member
 State the expected outcomes and when the decision will be reviewed
During the meeting you must use effective communication skills including:
 using suitable language
 facilitate active participation from the team/individual
 communicating in a way that contributes to the integrity and credibility of the
organisation
Attach evidence of your meeting/s to the end of Section 2 of your Project Portfolio.
Make sure you have answered all questions in Section 2. Submit to your assessor
for review.
You are also required to attach certain documents as part of your evidence – review
the documents you need to attach as outlined in Section 2 of the Project
Portfolio and make sure you attach these upon submission.

8. Use feedback processes to monitor the implementation

You must meet with the relevant team/individuals to monitor the implementation
and impact of decisions. You must consider the context for the communication, and
this may mean that you will have more than one meeting. The meeting must be
between 5 and 10 minutes and may take place in person or online.
If you are basing the assessment on a real workplace, you must ensure that the
relevant team/individuals have taken some action (according to the Action Plan that
was implemented) and that they will be able to provide you with feedback.
If you are using the case study, you may meet the same students as before, playing
the roles of your team members. They may use their own suggestions/feedback to
contribute to the meeting. You may assume the following:
The team watched online training on how to deal with conflict.
The individual team member has been using Google Calendar.
At the meeting/s discuss the actions that have been implemented (according to the
Action plan) and ask the team/individual to describe the impact of the decision on
their performance and their compliance to organisational values and standards.
Attach evidence of your meeting/s to Section 3 of your Project Portfolio.

9. Report to stakeholders

Use the feedback you receive to develop a report to stakeholders (if you are using
the case study, this will be your assessor) containing the following information:
 An overview of the team performance

document and attach it at the end of Section 3 of your Project Portfolio.

Develop an email to the relevant stakeholder/s and attach your report.

The text of the email/s should be in grammatically correct English, written in an
appropriate (polite, business-like) style.
Attach evidence of your email to Section 3 of your Project Portfolio

10. Submit your completed Project Portfolio

Make sure you have completed all sections of your Project Portfolio, answered all
questions, provided enough detail as indicated and proofread for spelling and
grammar as necessary. Remember to submit all necessary attachments as
indicated.
