ACTIVITIES
VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering refers to activities in which individuals offer
their time and skills to help society, the environment, or
individuals, without expecting any financial compensation.
Volunteers participate in projects related to social, cultural,
environmental, or educational causes, working to benefit
others and create positive changes in the community.
Volunteering is also an important activity that supports
personal development, fosters social connections, and
provides valuable experiences while contributing to society.
European Solıdarıty Corps (ESC)
The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a new European Union initiative that
creates opportunities for young people to volunteer, work, or network in projects
that benefit communities, both in their own countries and abroad. It aims to
address societal needs while promoting the personal, educational, social, civil, and
professional development of young people.
The program brings young people together to create a more inclusive society,
support vulnerable individuals, and respond to societal challenges. It offers an
inspiring and empowering experience for young people who want to help, learn, and
develop themselves.
The program adds value to the Volunteering program, previously known as the
European Voluntary Service, which is now part of Erasmus+ and other EU funding
programs.
VOLUNTEERING TEAMS IN HIGH PRIORITY AREAS
Volunteering Teams are full-time non-remunerated solidarity activities that should
bring together groups of minimum 5 participants to volunteer together for a period
between 2 weeks and 2 months (up to 59 days, excluding travel days).
The Corps can provide significant value by assisting children and young people from
disadvantaged backgrounds or otherwise vulnerable groups with the attainment of
adequate learning achievements. The European Year of Youth and the European
Year of Skills have fostered the efforts in reaching out to all young people,
including those with fewer opportunities.
Complementary activities are relevant side activities designed to add value and
augment the results of the project as well as to strengthen its impact on the local,
regional, and/or European level. These complementary activities aim at raising
awareness of the value of volunteering for young people and for communities as well
as at strengthening the recognition of the skills and competences gained by the
volunteers.
BENEFITS
You will contribute as a volunteer and help communities in need. Since this is a form of assistance you
choose to offer without financial compensation, you will not receive a salary. However, your travel,
accommodation, food, and insurance costs will be covered, and you will receive a small allowance as pocket
money.
This is a learning experience that will accelerate your personal and professional development. You will
have the opportunity to receive training before, during, and after your volunteering experience. A mentor
will help you set clear goals and guide you on how to achieve them. Additionally, you will have the chance
to enhance your language and intercultural skills, learn to live independently, overcome challenges, and
work within a team.
Living in another country, exploring that country, learning about other cultures, and making new friends
will be an inevitable part of your volunteering experience.
Through your volunteering experience, you will have the opportunity to bring new ideas and a multicultural
spirit to the organizations and local communities where you volunteer.
By participating in the European Solidarity Corps, you will become part of a community. Upon your return,
you can stay connected with a wider community of former volunteers, share your experiences, and
communicate with other young individuals in your country, inspiring them.
At the end of a project in which you participate as a volunteer, you will receive a Youthpass certificate
documenting your participation.

Mission of the European Solidarity Corps
The European Solidarity Corps brings together young people to build a more inclusive society,
supporting vulnerable people and responding to societal challenges. It offers an inspiring and
empowering experience for young people who want to help, learn and develop.
Principles of the European Solidarity Corps
European Solidarity Corps participants carry with them ideas, convictions and expectations. The participating
organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting
hosting environment. At the same time, the organisations participating in the initiative devote a great deal of
time, energy and resources to set up a high-quality activity; they should therefore expect that European
Solidarity Corps participants show a similar level of respect for the local communities and the people that are
directly concerned by the activities.
These general principles of conduct take into account the great variety of potential participants, organisations
and environments in which activities may be performed. They should be adapted to the specific circumstances
of each activity.
Young people planning to join the European Solidarity Corps should read this document carefully.
As a European Solidarity Corps participant, one agrees to uphold the following principles:
European Solidarity Corps participants embrace the values of solidarity, respect for human dignity
and human rights, and believe in the promotion of a fair and equal society in which pluralism, non-
