Research Food Waste
and Disposal
Observe food waste types and
quantities in the cafeteria.
Many plastic waste has been thrown
in the cafeteria trash bin alongside
food that has been wasted, such as
vegetables that were untouched and
rice that wasn’t unfinished.
Interviewing staff and students
to identify reasons for waste.
The reasons for food waste is mostly
because of the taste, sometimes the food
tastes too salty or soggy, drinks have no
taste of sugar.
Investigating how the school disposes of
food waste and its environmental impact.
If you look closely in
the second picture,
you can see that the
amount of food being
wasted is quite a lot.

Conducting a
Questionnaire
Creating a questionnaire for students and staff to
understand
1. In your opinion, what are the main causes of food waste
in our school?
2. When you don't finish your food, what is usually the
reason?
3. How important do you think it is to reduce food
wastage?
4. What do you think is the most effective way to reduce
food waste in school?
What do you think happens to the food we don’t finish?
Examine Environmental
Impacts
Research how food waste affects
water, agriculture, and emissions,
especially when it goes to landfills.
Water Waste :
Wasting food means wasting plenty amount of
water ( example, 1800 litres for 1kg of wheat. )
Agriculture :
30% of agricultural lands grows
food that isn’t eaten, given to
inefficiency and overproduction.
Propose Solutions and
Set Goals
Based on findings, suggest solutions
Portion Adjustments :
Request a smaller portion if you
are not able to finish it.
Spreading Awareness:
Create posters or make a
campaign to stop food wastage.
Sharing Food:
Sharing food incase of being unable to
finish it.
Set a target for waste reduction and
plan to measure progress
In order to waste reduction, our target
is to decrease the amount of food that
has been wasted by the students in
school.
