CMC LV
THICKENER
CMC LV (Carboxymethyl Cellulose Low Viscosity), also known as Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose, is
specifically formulated to reduce filtration (water loss) in water-based drilling fluids, including fresh
water, seawater, and salt-saturated systems. Unlike higher-viscosity variants, CMC LV effectively
controls fluid loss while having a minimal impact on mud viscosity. It disperses easily in various water-
based mud systems, making it an efficient fluid-loss additive for fresh, saline, and highly concentrated
saltwater drilling fluids.
Typical Physical Properties:
Physical appearance --------------------------------------------------- Off-White powder
Viscometer Dial Reading at 600 r/Min ---------------------------- Max 90
pH of 2% in water------------------------------------------------------- 7.0 – 10.0
Moisture Content-------------------------------------------------------- 8% Maximum
Solubility in water-------------------------------------------------------- 100%
Applications:
CMC LV is a cost-effective additive used as a fluid loss reducer in fresh water and brackish water
systems. It is used to control fluid loss in dispersed and non-dispersed drilling fluids.
Advantages:
-Superior Filtration Control: Effectively reduces fluid loss in most water-based drilling fluid systems.
-Improved Rheology: Stabilizes and enhances fluid properties, including suspension and hole-cleaning
capabilities.
-Cutting & Solid Encapsulation: Coats and encapsulates drilled solids, preventing swelling and
disintegration of water-sensitive formations.
-Wallcake Enhancement: Improves wallcake quality and consistency, reducing the risk of stuck pipe.
Packaging and Storage:
CMC LV powder is packaged in 25KG paper sack.
Store in a well-ventilated area away from sources of heat or ignition.
