Warehouse Cockpit
Purpose
You can use the Warehouse Cockpit to display your warehouse key figures and defined Easy Graphics Framework objects (EGF
objects) graphically, and to evaluate or monitor them using defined chart types. It enhances text-based SAP solutions, and was
developed to be implemented in a strategically oriented warehouse. It supports new processes, such as working with analytical
functions when managing a warehouse using Extended Warehouse Management (EWM).
The Warehouse Cockpit displays the measurement services delivered by SAP and created by you.
It is an example implementation of the Easy Graphics Framework (EGF) , delivered by SAP, which contains overdue objects and
objects of the material flow system (MFS). You can display the utilization and resource situation of your warehouse using the
objects you have defined.
The figure shows the EGF objects bars, stacks, speedometer and time for the example for open physical inventory documents.
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit SAP Help Portal. 4
5/20/25, 4:30 AM
Implementation Considerations
If your firm wants to implement the Warehouse Cockpit, and the objects or chart types delivered in the example implementation
are not enough for you, you must use the Easy Graphics Framework (EGF) in Customizing for EWM to extend the EGF settings and
define additional objects or chart types.
For more information about the Easy Graphics Framework, see Easy Graphics Framework .
Features
The system displays newly created measurement services in the Warehouse Cockpit automatically. You must include the
measurement services in the menu tree by choosing Show Hidden Objects . You can then use Drag&Drop to move the
measurement service to the corresponding folder Measurement Service .
If you display a measurement service either by double-clicking it or via the menu, it is redefined after intervals that are
specified in the refresh rate .
If the threshold values defined in the measurement services are exceeded or fallen short, the system triggers an exception.
You define exceptions in Customizing for EWM.
For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for EWM under Cross-Process Settings Exception
Handling Define Exception Codes .
The delivered Warehouse Cockpit contains the following EGF objects:
Measurement services
Material flow system (MFS)
Status of communication channel
Status of communication layer
Status of process for telegram repetition
Status of MFS resource
Overdue objects

Measurement Services
Use
You use this function to define your own warehouse key figures supported by the system. You map your key figures using tailored
and calculated measurement services (TMS and CMS). You start these using the program Start Measurement Services , which
you can schedule to run regularly. Examples of warehouse key figures include:
Outbound deliveries that have left the warehouse too late
Number of open physical inventory documents that are older than 5 days old
Number of handling units in goods receipt
These warehouse key figures can be called at any time, and represent tools which the warehouse manager can use to check and
plan his warehouse more effectively.
He does not have to track his warehouse key figures constantly on the screen, instead he can trigger alerts if certain values are
exceeded or fallen short.
Measurement services are output in the base unit of measure of the warehouse.
Integration
The determined key figures are used in the following functions:
Warehouse management monitor, for creating a tailored measurement service (TMS) under certain conditions
Operational planning in Labor Management and for calculating engineered labor standards. For more information, see
Determination of Normal Time Using Engineered Labor Standards.
Warehouse Cockpit , to monitor the results graphically

Measurement services are based on one another:
A tailored measurement service (TMS) is based on a basic measurement service (BMS) selected by you. BMSs are the
building blocks of your warehouse key figures, and cannot be used on their own.
You can split these up into BMS groups, according to your business requirements. A BMS is a query to a business object,
which the system executes without the user having to make an entry. Examples of BMSs are number of inbound deliveries,
or number of warehouse tasks.
A calculated measurement service (CMS) is a mathematic formula. It consists of:
One or more CMSs
One or more TMSs
A mathematic function
You define the measurement services on the launchpad, by choosing Extended WarehouseManagement Settings
Measurement Services , or in Customizing for EWM under Monitoring Measurement Services.
For each key figure you can do the following:
Define upper and lower threshold values
Define exception codes if these values are exceeded or fallen short
Trigger a workflow based on exception codes, such as creating a warehouse task
Trigger an alert based on exception codes, such as sending a message
Activities
1. SAP delivers BMS groups and individual BMSs. If you want to add more groups or BMSs, in Customizing for EWM, choose
Monitoring Measurement Service Define Basic Measurement Service GrouporDefine Basic Measurement Service
(BMS).
If you want to define your own BMS, enter a function module that you have created for the selection screen and
selection.
2. You can choose to create a TMS and CMS using a view or a wizard. On the launchpad, choose Extended
WarehouseManagement Settings Measurement Services , or in Customizing for EWM choose Monitoring
Measurement Services.
3. You schedule and plan the measurement services regularly using the program Start Measurement Services.
Example
A warehouse manager wants to know each morning how many warehouse orders a processor has executed the previous day. For
this he makes the following settings:
1. He starts by defining a TMS based on the BMS he requires. He selects BMS 1 "Number of Warehouse Orders" and BMS 2
"Number of Processors".
2. He then adjusts these to match his requirements, by creating selection variants 1 and 2.
3. He creates CMS 1 in the formula editor in such a way that TMS 1 is divided by TMS 2. As a result, he is given the number of
warehouse orders per processor, for example 40 warehouse orders per processor.
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit SAP Help Portal. 7
5/20/25, 4:30 AM
The figure below shows how the individual measurement services are based on one another.
Tailored Measurement Service (TMS)
Use
You use this function to build warehouse key figures, which you can use to check the effectiveness of your warehouse.
You select a basic measurement service (BMS) on which your TMS is to be based, and adjust it to fit your business requirements.
You add special selection criteria to the BMS, such as the activity area, by creating a selection variant.
The result is a key figure in the base unit of measure of the warehouse.
Features
You define a TMS on the launchpad, by choosing Extended WarehouseManagement Settings Measurement Services , or
in Customizing for EWM under Monitoring Measurement Services. Both options allow you to either use a wizard to define a
TMS, or to define one in a view.
Note
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit SAP Help Portal. 8
5/20/25, 4:30 AM
If you create a TMS using Customizing, it will be included in a transport request, meaning that you can use in other systems and
not just locally. If you create a TMS using the launchpad, you can only use it locally.
You can do the following:
Create, copy, change, or delete a TMS
Create, change, or delete variants for the BMSs
Define threshold values, exceptions, and minimum repeat intervals
Test the TMS
Example
The number of warehouse orders with status Completed.
Calculated Measurement Service ( CMS )
Use
You use this function to build the warehouse key figures that are used to check the effectiveness of your warehouse. You can use a
formula editor to connect multiple tailored measurement services ( TMS ) in a complex formula, to determine the performance of
your employees, for example.
You create the formula in the formula editor , and for one part of the formula you choose a tailored measurement service ( TMS ),
another calculated measurement service ( CMS ), or a mathematical function. As a result, the TMS returns a key figure in the base
unit of measure of your warehouse.
Prerequisites
You have defined one or more TMSs on which the CMS is to be based.
Features
You define a CMS on the launchpad, by choosing Extended WarehouseManagement Settings Measurement Services , or
in Customizing for EWM under Monitoring Measurement Services. Both options allow you to either use a wizard to define
aCMS, or to define one in a view.
Note
If you create a CMS using Customizing, it will be included in a transport request, meaning that you can use it in other systems
and not just locally. If you create a CMS using the launchpad, you can only use it locally.
You can do the following:
Create, copy, change, or delete a CMS
Define threshold values, exceptions, and minimum repeat intervals
Test the CMS and check the correctness of the formula

Example
Key figure that specifies the number of warehouse orders per processor.
Here, CMS 1 (number of warehouse orders with status Completed) is divided by CMS 2 (number of processors with yesterday's
date).
Evaluation of Measurement Services
Use
You use this function to evaluate the defined measurement services.
Features
Start Measurement Services
You use this program to start the tailored and/or calculated measurement service.
By selecting certain selection criteria, you have a "background agent" available, which you can use to monitor the history of
particular warehouse key figures, if you schedule the report regularly.
You save the results in the following:
Database
Local file
Logical file
Here you also configure whether the measurement services trigger an exception code if defined threshold values are exceeded or if
a shortfall arises.
Delete Measurement Service Results
You can use this program to delete the results of the tailored and calculated measurement services from the database, thereby
preventing the database tables from becoming too large.
Activities
You start the measurement services from the launchpad, under Extended WarehouseManagement Settings Measurement
Services Periodic Processing.
Proof of Delivery in EWM
Use
In outbound processes, ship-to parties can confirm the receipt of goods. In the sending facility, you can enter reported differences,
such as deviations between the physical quantity and the quantity on the delivery slip as proof-of-delivery (PoD) data in SAP SAP
S/4HANA . In order to improve the performance of a warehouse, EWM provides a detailed PoD analysis in the EWM monitor,
helping you to find the cause of incorrect deliveries in outbound processes. For this purpose, the PoD data created in SAP
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit SAP Help Portal. 10
5/20/25, 4:30 AM
S/4HANA is regularly imported to EWM and is enriched by warehouse activity data. You can use the PoD data in EWM by using
measurement services to build key performance indicators, such as Ratio Outbound Delivery Errors and monitor them in the
warehouse cockpit. In addition, you can use the PoD data in EWM as the basis for data extraction to BI, where it is used to build the
key performance indicator Ratio Outbound Delivery Errors.
Process
You can use proof of delivery in EWM as follows:
1. Create PoD-relevant outbound deliveries in SAP S/4HANA . The system replicates the deliveries to EWM. In EWM, the items
in the outbound delivery documents are marked as PoD-relevant.
Next, execute the warehouse activities, such as picking, packing, staging and loading and then post the goods issue for the
outbound deliveries in EWM.
2. Confirm receipt of the PoD from the ship-to party in the SAP S/4HANA system.
In case there were no quantity differences reported in the PoD, only the PoD status is updated in the outbound delivery in
SAP S/4HANA . This information is not communicated to EWM. In case of differences, PoD data is created in SAP S/4HANA
3. Regularly import the PoD data to EWM using a background job.
PoD data in EWM is always an indicator for incorrect deliveries. In case no PoD data exists for a PoD-relevant delivery in
EWM, EWM assumes that the delivery was correct.
4. In the EWM monitor, analyze the PoD data, which contains information about the warehouse activities.
5. If you are using KPI reporting in EWM, build measurement services using PoD data and monitor them in the warehouse
cockpit.
6. If you are using KPI reporting in BI, export the PoD-relevant deliveries and the PoD data to BI on a regular basis.
More Information
For more information, see:
Proof of Delivery in SAP S/4HANA
Maintenance of Proof of Delivery in EWM.
Maintenance of Proof of Delivery
Use
For monitoring and analysis of outbound delivery items, you can use this function to create or delete proof-of-delivery data, which
is imported from SAP S/4HANA and enriched in Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) by warehouse activity data.
Integration
SAP S/4HANA replicates outbound deliveries indicated as relevant for proof of delivery (PoD) to EWM for further processing.
The BI system extracts the data sets on PoD relevant outbound deliveries for enabling KPI reporting in EWM.
Prerequisites
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit SAP Help Portal. 11
5/20/25, 4:30 AM
You have limited the number of users who are allowed to process the data import by having assigned authorizations for the
authorization object /SCWM/PIMP.
You have implemented SAP Note 1625878 in SAP S/4HANA for setting up PoD relevancy, which is also used to support
the stock transport order process.
You have not archived outbound deliveries in EWM, thus enabling import of PoD entries at item level.
Items in outbound deliveries are selected as relevant for proof of delivery in EWM.
Confirmed PoD differences exist in S/4HANA for the corresponding outbound deliveries in S/4HANA.
Features
You can use this function in the background to regularly create PoD data.
PoD Data Creation
Selecting outbound delivery items
The system selects PoD relevant outbound delivery items according to criteria set by the user.
Importing data
The system imports PoD differences reported in SAP S/4HANA.
Before importing data from SAP S/4HANA, you must define a specific RFC destination. In Customizing, see Assign RFC
Destinations to Logical Systems under Extended Warehouse Management Interfaces ERP Integration General
Settings Assign Default RFC Destinations to Logical Systems .
By implementing the BAdI /SCWM/EX_POD_SELECT, you can replace the standard PoD data import with your own PoD
data import.
Enriching data
The system determines warehouse activities and tasks performed on selected outbound delivery items and updates the
PoD data.
By implementing the BAdI /SCWM/EX_POD_ENRICH, you can replace the standard determination of relevant warehouse
tasks with your own determination.
PoD Data Deletion
The system selects and deletes relevant PoD data according to criteria set by the user.
The deletion of PoD data is not linked to delivery archiving because an analysis should be possible even if the delivery is archived.
PoD Data Test
The system creates an application log but does not make any changes to the database.
To activate the application log, on the launchpad choose SCM Extended Warehouse Management Extended Warehouse
Management Settings Application Log Activate Application Log .
PoD Data in BI
For transfer of PoD transaction data from EWM into BI, use data source 0WM_POD.
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit SAP Help Portal. 12
5/20/25, 4:30 AM
You can use the extracted PoD data with, for example, extracted data on outbound delivery items (data source 0WM_DLVI_OUT) to
build key performance indicators, such as Ratio Outbound Delivery Errors and monitor them in the warehouse cockpit. To build
the key performance indicator, you must make sure that the PoD data in BI corresponds to the outbound delivery.
See Data Sources for more information.
Activities
To maintain proof-of-delivery data for relevant outbound deliveries, on the launchpad choose Extended Warehouse
Management Interfaces ERP Integration Maintain Proof-of-Delivery Data .
The system processes creation or deletion of proof-of-delivery data based on the selection criteria of at least warehouse number
and a goods issue date interval.
After execution, the system displays a message log, which you can use to analyze the changes made. Depending on the application
log settings, the message log is also saved to the database. Using transaction code SLG1, you can display on the Analyze
Application Log screen the message log for the object /SCWM/WME and sub-object PoD.
Example
If you want to use this function to create PoD data in the background on a regular basis, such as weekly, then create a variant with
a selection variable for the goods issue data.
For example, give customers 7 days to report incorrect deliveries and if you confirm the PoD based delivery in the same timeframe,
you can use the variable current date - xxx, current date + yyy. Enter 14 as xxx value and 7- as yyy value to import the confirmed
PoD data from the previous week.

Maintenance of Warehouse Costs and FTEs
Use
In EWM, you can maintain warehouse cost and FTE (full-time employee equivalent) data needed in BI on the query Warehouse
Costs and Delivery Efficiency per FTE. The query relates outbound delivery items with warehouse costs to build key figures
measuring the efficiency of a warehouse. The warehouse cost and FTE data are used exclusively for analytic purposes. They do not
need to be exact. They must only allow a rough comparison between warehouses.
Prerequisites
You need authorizations for the authorization object /SCWM/COST in your warehouse.
Features
This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit SAP Help Portal. 13
5/20/25, 4:30 AM
The warehouse cost and FTE data are time-dependent. They can be maintained for a past as well as for a future time interval, such
as for an entire year or for several months. An overlap in the time intervals is not allowed. We recommend that you maintain an
entry with the end date December 31, 9999 to ensure that the system always finds a valid date in the future.
Activities
On the launchpad, choose Extended Warehouse Management Master Data Maintain Warehouse Costs .
To maintain warehouse cost and FTE data for the period in which you want to execute the query Maintain Warehouse Costs,
proceed as follows:
1. Maintain warehouse cost and FTE data for the warehouse as described.
2. Create and process outbound deliveries as required in your outbound processes.
3. Regularly extract outbound deliveries to BI.
4. Regularly extract warehouse cost and FTE data to BI.
5. Execute the query Warehouse Costs and Delivery Efficiency per FTE to check the efficiency of your warehouse on a time
axis.
Example
You want to maintain the following entries:
The complete previous year (from January 1 to December 31)
The current year and the future (from January 1 of the current year to December 31, 9999).
If the data changes on May 1 of the current year, create a new entry from May 1 of the current year to December 31, 9999. The
system will automatically adapt the end date of the previous valid entry to April 30 of the current year.
DataSources
Definition
A DataSource is a set of fields that provide the data for a business unit for data transfer. From a technical perspective, the
DataSource is a set of logically-related fields that are provided to transfer data to SAP NetWeaver BW and the operational data
provider in the backend either in a flat structure (extraction structure) or in multiple flat structures (for hierarchies).
More Information
For more information, search for DataSource, data staging, and Operational Data Provider in the documentation for SAP
