INTRODUCTION
Sikhism was founded by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in
the 15 th Century.
Sikhism is the world’s fifth largest religion.
The Word Sikh means “learner” or “seeker of
truth”.
Sikhs believe in equality, social justice,
service to humanity and tolerance for other
religions.
There are a total of 11 Sikh Gurus.

Sikh Heritage Month is celebrated every April.
Officially recognized in Canada in 2019.
Celebrates the culture, contributions, and history of
Sikh Canadians.
Inspired by the birth month of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the
founder of Sikhism.

Canada: Community events, flag
raisings, art exhibits.
UK: Educational events, Gurdwara open
houses.
USA: Cultural festivals and Sikh history
exhibitions.
India: Nagar Kirtans, community service
(Seva).
