Fellow judges and debaters, I am here today to convince you that shorter school
days are much better for students. While some may argue that longer school
days are better, I believe that shorter school days increase focus and
engagement in the classroom, leading to a more successful learning
environment.

Extended hours can lead to students feeling exhausted, which will decrease
their ability to concentrate in class. By reducing the time spent in school, it can
make students more attentive and energetic throughout the day, leading to
improved academic performance. Therefore, a shorter school day is the right
choice for students who want to excel academically and receive the benefits of a
focused and engaging learning environment.

MG: 1. Enhanced Focus and Engagement: With less time in school, students
are likely to be less fatigued and therefore more focused and engaged during
the allocated hours. This can lead to better information processing, deeper
understanding, and improved academic performance.

2. Well-rounded Development: Shorter school days create more free time for
students to explore their interests and talents through extracurricular
activities like sports, music, arts, or volunteering. These activities foster crucial
skills like teamwork, communication, leadership, and creativity, complementing
their academic learning and contributing to holistic development.

3. Improved Physical and Mental Well-being: Extended school hours can


contribute to increased stress, anxiety, and even burnout among students.
Shorter days allow for more time for rest, relaxation, physical activity, and
healthy social interaction, all crucial for maintaining emotional and mental
well-being. A well-rested and balanced student is better equipped to approach
learning with a positive attitude and increased motivation.

argue that longer school days lead to better academic outcomes, the potential
drawbacks of this approach must not be overlooked. In contrast, shorter school
days offer a compelling alternative that fosters a more engaged, well-rounded,
and ultimately successful learning environment for our students. By prioritizing
focus, engagement, and well-being, shorter school days provide a holistic
approach that sets the stage for lifelong learning and success. Opting for a
shorter school day is a bold move that demonstrates our commitment to
