Application Essay
I completed my BS Honors in Chemistry with a Psychology Minor from Forman Christian College
(A Chartered University) in March 2021. My engagement as an Ambassador Assistant in the
Speers Chemical Society during my final year significantly enriched my extracurricular
involvement and academic journey. This society facilitated me by interacting with prospective
students looking for subject selection. Additionally, this experience taught me the profound value
of the proverb “Teaching is learning twice”. I developed skills in event coordination and seminar
organization, recognizing that these kinds of educational practices have a centuries-long history,
allowing us to understand the evolution of universities over time and extract valuable insights for
learning.
Subsequently, pursuing an MPhil in Chemistry at Forman Christian College (A Chartered
University) led me to delve deeper into the world of research. I strengthened my expertise in
organic synthesis and computational studies under the guidance of Dr. Umair Tariq and Co-
Supervisor Dr. Mariya-al-Rashida, focusing on the research topic "Synthesis of Substituted Amide
Derivatives and its Molecular Docking Studies against Carbonic Anhydrase IX," attaining a CGPA
of 3.258.
I am currently working at LUMS (Lahore University of Management Sciences), where I am
designing and synthesizing 1, 3, and 4 Oxadiazole derivatives to study the inhibitory studies
against N-MyristoylTransferase. This project aligns with my broader goals of addressing critical
health issues, such as malaria and creating innovative solutions.
My ultimate goal is to obtain a PhD in Chemistry, which will enable me to contribute to
synthesizing noble compounds and study their applications. After completing my PhD, I aim to
contribute as a Research Associate in Pakistan's thriving chemical industries, recognizing the
nation's dire need for advancements in this sector.
The departmental research laboratories are equipped with a wide range of pioneering equipment,
providing graduate students with comprehensive training to utilize these instruments for their
dissertation work proficiently. My ambition is to collaborate under the mentorship of distinguished
experts such as Dr. William Chain, Dr. Neal J. Zondlo, Dr. Mary P. Watson, Dr. Donald A. Watson,
Dr. Joseph M. Fox, Dr. Catherine L. Grimes, Dr. Laure Kayser, and Dr. Joel Rosenthal. This
opportunity offers an exciting chance to explore new ground and cutting-edge compound synthesis
techniques. Under their guidance, I envision exploring innovative approaches in compound
synthesis, fueling my passion for pioneering research and contributing meaningfully to the
chemical and research sectors in Pakistan.
I believe that a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware will provide me with the necessary skills
and knowledge to contribute significantly to the field of chemistry. After completing my doctoral
studies, I aim to work as a research associate in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical company or academic
institution in Pakistan. I am passionate about applying my expertise in developing novel
therapeutic agents and tackling urgent global health issues.
By combining my strong foundation in organic synthesis with advanced techniques in
computational chemistry, I am confident in my ability to contribute significantly to the field. I am
eager to initiate this fascinating journey and leave a lasting impression on the scientific community.
