INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Children Camp Meetings 2023. We thank God for another

opportunity to meet with our Creator for Spiritual nourishment in this
year’s Camp meeting. This study guide will be nurturing children into a
loving, serving relationship with Jesus Christ, following the leading of the
Holy Spirit to Disciple Children from ZEROS to HEROES of Faith in Jesus
Christ. Both our Adventist children and non- Adventist children will be
blessed during the program. We call upon parents and children teachers to
give full support in serving children.
The main focus of this child Camp Meeting Materials is to help a child
Grow in Christ by learning to:

 Do the right things and stand alone for God in a world of opposition like Josiah
(2 Chronicles 34:1-2)
 Witness for God as children and even when away from Home, like the little
maid of Naaman (2 Kings5:3)
 Trust in God in all circumstances like Joseph (Psalm 34:8)
 Being a bridge Builder like Esther who took risk to face the King in order to
save her People (Esther4:15-16).
 Persistent prayers in times of crisis like Daniel who prayed for
forgiveness of his sins and of His Nation (Daniel 9:1-19).
 Obedience to God’s warning concerning the future like Noah who built an
Ark as commanded in (Genesis 6:11-9:19).

DAY ONE – GROWING IN CHRIST

Colossians 2:7 Having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just
as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. (NASB)

Having trusted Christ for salvation, we are to walk in spirit and truth. We are to conduct our
lives in a manner that is well-pleasing to the Father, and we are to be holy for the Lord our
God is holy. We are to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ, and we are to abide in Him and He in us.

We are to establish, strengthen, and build-up our faith in our Lord Jesus, through Whom we
have received forgiveness of sins and life more abundantly. We are to feed on His Word and
study to show ourselves approved, in order that we may grow in grace and mature in the
faith once delivered to the saints, as based on the apostolic teaching, with Christ as the
Cornerstone. We are to be rooted in the Word of God and thoroughly grounded on the truth
of the Scripture, by faith in the only begotten Son of God. We are to establish God's Word of
truth in our heart and to reckon it to be true so that we may live our lives in submission to the
Holy Spirit of God, by faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ, with thanksgiving in our hearts.
We are to develop a fervent belief and committed trust in God the Father Who has given us
eternal salvation by grace through faith, and we are to walk in spirit and truth so that in Him we
will be abundantly furnished with an unshakable and established trust, which will overflow in
thanksgiving and praise to our heavenly King. And when we build our lives on Him, letting our
roots grow down deep into Him, we are able to weather any storm, walk through any
circumstance in our lives, with the unshakable knowledge that He will never leave us or forsake
us, and that He is able to bring us through, to our good and His glory.
As a young child After you become a Christian, what do you do next?
The Bible tells us that Christians normally do certain things to help them grow closer to Christ.
These are called spiritual disciplines — habits that help us become more mature. This is one of
the Habits that help us grow closer to Christ.
In the Bible, in church history, and in the experience of millions of Christians, certain habits help
us grow in faith, help us enjoy Christianity more, and help us become more helpful to other in the
community too.
One of the first of all habits that boost us into Christianity is Prayer.
“Teach us to pray,” the disciples asked Jesus, and Jesus responded by teaching them a very simple
prayer (Luke 11:1-4). Prayer does not need to have special words or complicated statements — all

3
we need to do is to talk to God. In prayer, we tell him what we think, what we like, what we fear,
and what we want — and we can be sure that God hears us.
Jesus told his disciples that God hears and answers our prayers (verses 5-13). Ask, and you will
receive! James wrote that sometimes we don’t have what we want “because you do not ask God”
(James 4:2). So, if you want something, ask God.
As Creator, God has all the power of the universe. As Father, he is filled with love. We can be sure
that he is able and he is willing to answer our prayers.
But he is also wise enough not to grant everything we ask as soon as we ask. As James explained
in the next verse, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that
you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” God doesn’t give us things that aren’t good for
us. He doesn’t want to hurt us, or to make us selfish brats.
There is much more that could be said about how to pray, but the main thing is to keep praying.
The Lord’s prayer asks for “our daily bread” — we look each day to God to supply our needs. That
means we pray each day. We look to God each day. It becomes a habit in our Christian lives. It
builds a relationship with God. And we grow in Him. And he sustains us in all our endeavors.
That is why Paul wrote this in the book of Philippians 4:6, “In everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”

POEM

GOD’S CHURCH

God’s Church is His Family, who lives everywhere,

Sharing with all the Gospel, showing His tender care.

Like the People in the Bible, called out from the world,
God’s Church joins in the worship, and in fellowship and love.

In the study of His Word, God’s family learns His Ways,

And meets Him in Communion on His holy Sabbath days.

God’s Church is His Body, He is the only Head.

His Church is also His Bride, whom He is coming back to wed.

I am a part of God’s Church, to minister in His name.

Lord, help me to be always faithful, until You come again.

DAY 2 – GROWING LIKE A TREE IN CHRIST

Psalm 1:3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never
wither, and they prosper in all they do. (NIV)

This is a beautiful image of a person of faith who lives out what they believe. God’s ways are
awesome and high. For the one who surrenders to him, there will be peace and a certain
measure of prosperity. It is impossible to escape completely the fact of the fallenness of the
earth we live on in the present age, but things are made infinitely better by obedience and
love for God and the ways of his Kingdom. A reading of the New Testament will prove that
there may be suffering in the path of a faithful Christian. Even Christ himself suffered
according to God’s will, but the instruction and encouragement in Scripture that promised
prosperity to those who trust God enough to live according to his ways cannot and should
not be disregarded. Breaking Down the Key Parts of

Psalm 1:3

#1 “That person…”
“That person” is the one who loves God and “delights in the law of the Lord,” and does not
live like an unbeliever, wicked, mocking, and loving sin (Ps 1:1).
#2 “…is like a tree planted by streams of water,”
To delight in God’s law is to love his ways. For the new Christian, it sometimes takes time,
particularly when one is saved out of a God-hating culture. Undoing some of the thinking of
the “dominion of darkness” may take a while. A tree will start out small, but if one loves God
and seeks his ways, he is like a tree by a stream. If there is little rain, then only the trees near
the stream will grow. The stream represents the ways of God and love for God.
#3 “which yields its fruit in season…”
This will be a fruitful tree. The fruit will come in season. There still will be times of winter for
the believer, but faithfulness will lead to fruit in the right season. Some seasons are for
sowing and some are for harvesting.
#4 “…and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”
Here is an interesting image. Even a healthy tree will have leaves that wither and fall off in
10
autumn. God seems to be promising supernatural spiritual health to the faithful. The fruit
may come in season, but the leaf will never wither. Abiding in this way lines one up with the
will of God so well that “whatever they do prospers.” It is a rare life in this world that is lived
this faithfully, but we should make it our aim as the kind of life God desires for us.

POEM
GROWING IN CHRIST
By His death on the cross, Jesus won the big fight.
His weapon was love and His armor was light.

He broke the demon power that makes people sin.

He frees all the prisoners so in Him they can win.

Jesus gained the victory, we do not have to fear.

Evil cannot control us, when we are in His face.

We walk in peace with Jesus, when we sing and pray,

His Holy Spirit fills us with power from above.

We grow more like Jesus, when we sing and pray,

And read the Bible daily, and live the kind and loving way.

DAY 3 – GROWING BY HEARING, LEARNING, AND FOLLOWING

Josiah: The Boy Who Became King

2 Kings 22-23, Deuteronomy 5:1, and 2 Chronicles 34-35.

Josiah was only 8 years old when he became king. His father, Amon, was an
evil king who worshipped idols. Amon’s own servants killed him. Josiah was
very young, but he knew the people were sinning and worshipping false
gods. He wanted to do the right thing and keep God’s laws.

As Josiah grew older, he became more experienced and powerful. In his

18th year as king, he saw that the temple of God was in bad shape. He
decided to repair it. He told the high priest, Hilkiah, to pay for the repairs
out of the money collected at the temple. They hired carpenters, builders
and stone workers. They bought wood and stone for the repair work.

FINDING THE BOOK OF THE LAW

One day, as Hilkiah was walking in the temple, he spotted a scroll. He picked
it up and was surprised. He said to Shaphan, the scribe, “I have found the
Book of the Law in the house of the LORD.” Hilkiah gave the book (written
on a scroll) to Shaphan, and he read it.
This book may have been hidden away in the temple for many years during
the reigns of ungodly Kings. Or it may have been just thrown aside, no
longer used. It probably contained parts or all of the first five books of the
Old Testament as written down by Moses. Most of the Bible as we know it
today had not been written at this time.

THEN SHAPHAN READ THE BOOK TO THE KING.

When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes
and cried. He knew these were God’s words written down in this book. And
17
he knew God was angry because they had broken God’s laws.

A MESSAGE FROM GOD

Then the king told Hilkiah, “Go, ask of the LORD about the words of this
book. God is greatly angry with us. Our fathers have not obeyed the words
of this book.”

Hilkiah took Shaphan and three others and went to Huldah the prophetess.
She said, “The LORD God of Israel says, ‘Tell the king, I will bring trouble on
this place and on its people because they have forsaken Me. They have
burned incense to other gods. They have made Me angry with all the works
of their hands.’” But God said to Josiah, “Your heart was right, and you
humbled yourself before Me when you heard the words I spoke against this
place and its people. You tore your clothes and cried. I have heard you. You
will not see all the trouble I will bring on this place.”

AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD

The king sent men to gather all the elders of Judah. The king went up to the house of
the LORD with all the men of Judah. He read all the words of the Book of the
Covenant that had been found in the temple. Josiah made a special promise to God.
He would keep God’s laws with all his heart and all his soul. All the people also
promised.
The king commanded Hilkiah and others to clean out all the idols from the temple.
They were burned up. Then he went to other cities in the land and removed all the
priests who worshipped idols. He broke down all their idols, altars and high places
where they worshipped. Then he returned to Jerusalem.

A SPECIAL PASSOVER
Now this was the time of the year when the Passover was to be celebrated. Josiah
told all the people, “Keep the Passover to the LORD your God, as it is written in this
Book of the Covenant.”
Such a Passover had not been held for many years. The king and all the people
celebrated this season with great joy and thankfulness.

18
NO KING LIKE HIM
Josiah continued to remove all the evil priests, idols, wooden images and altars. He
destroyed all the places where false gods had been worshipped. As long as Josiah
reigned, the people kept the laws that were written in the Book of the Law. Josiah
was a very special king. He turned to God with all his heart, with all his soul and with
all his might. No king was like him afterward. This young king worked hard to bring
his people back to God. 2 Kings 22-23 and 2 Chronicles 34-35.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM KING JOSIAH!

1. God can use anyone regardless of age 2 Chronicles 34:1

2. When he heard the Word of God his heart was convicted. 2 Kings 22:11
3. He shared God’s word after hearing it showing true
leadership as a King.2 Kings 23:2-3
4. His people followed his leadership because he was willing to lead by example. 2
Kings 23:3
5. He got rid of anything that was against God’s will 2 Kings 23:4-7
6. God is speaking to us as children that we stand firm in our faith.

POEM

Jesus is God from forever,
And He became a baby boy,
He grew up in wisdom and stature.
As our Savior, He brings us joy.

He lived as a man and was tempted,

But never did any wrong.
He was meek and kind and obedient,
And loving Him, I can be strong.

He bore my sins on the cross.
He arose from the dead a conqueror,
So that no one should be lost.

DAY 4- GROWING THROUGH PRAYER LIKE JESUS

Daniel The boy who stood by a true purpose

1Thessalonians 5:17, Ephesians 6:18, Luke 5:16. Prayer in Time of Crisis
Daniel 1: 1 -21 James 4:7

Psalms 55:22 Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the
righteous be shaken. NKJV
The Babylonians captured the Israelites and took them as slaves. Daniel and other
young boys and girls from Israel became slaves and captives in Babylon. But even
as a captive Daniel among other courageous young men of Israel stood for what he
knew to be right. He together with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego honored God
by not eating the food that was given to idols before they were served. It was also
the food served at the Kings table. Daniel was found to be so wise that the king of
Babylon made him into a powerful ruler. Some of the Babylonian leaders who
helped the king did not like that.

The angry Babylonian leaders wanted to get rid of Daniel, and tried to find a way to
get him into trouble. Daniel, however, was an honest, righteous man. In Daniel 1,
they (Daniel and friends) challenged the man in charge of the serving at the King’s
to try them with natural food that is made up of fruits, vegetables and nuts. After 10
days Daniel and his friends were found to be 10xhealthier, wiser and strong than
those who ate food sacrificed to idols. They were courageous enough to refuse
unclean food from the Kings table. In Daniel 6, Daniel’s accusers could not find
anything wrong with him. Three times a day every day, Daniel prayed to God. He
was a faithful man.
Finally, Daniel's enemies came up with a wicked idea. They said, "Let's make a new
law. Everyone in Babylon must worship our king, and no one else. Anyone who
breaks the law will be thrown into the lions' den. Then if we catch Daniel praying to
his God, he will be breaking the law, and we can put him to death. "After Daniel

25
heard about the new law, he did not stop praying to God. He was not afraid of the
horrible trap his enemies had set up for him. The men arrested Daniel and had him
thrown into the lions' den. The king of Babylon, who loved Daniel, did not want to
punish him. But he knew he had to obey the new law.

That night, the king could not eat or sleep. He was concerned about Daniel. Very
early the next morning, he got up and quickly went to the lions' den. He was
overjoyed when he saw that Daniel was still alive!
"My God sent His angel, who shut the mouths of the lions," said Daniel. "They have
not hurt me because I have done nothing wrong against God. Neither have I done
anything wrong to you, O king. "The king became angry against Daniel's enemies
and had them thrown into the lions' den. Then the king said, "Everyone in Babylon
must worship the God of Daniel!"

Lesson we learn from the life of Daniel.

1. God listen to every person’s prayer
2. We should stand true to Him in season and out of season.
3. We should tell others about the love of Christ at all times.
4. We should never fear men in higher position rather take them to the Lord in prayer
Life application: In moments of difficulty, disappointment and confusion God still calls
upon his children to show their true character and to stand as people of integrity and truth.

Are our children prepared to stand for God in times of crisis and how is Daniels example
applicable in this time of being a Champion of Integrity.

Allow the children to give specific examples of prayers they have

learned, which they say before meals or before bed at night,
includethe questions below;

• Who are we praying to?

• What do we want to tell God?

• Do we have to ask for something in order to pray?

 Lead the children into thanks giving prayers to God. Let

26
each of them mentions in a prayer what they are grateful for

• Next, Group them and let each child draw a picture of the

things or people they love and give reasons why they love

them in the group.

• The key is to listen closely to the stories they are telling, so

you can make a group comment -- not just single out one

child and say, "No, we don't pray like that." The collective

comment will usually help the child get on the right track.

The important thing is to help them see prayer as a

conversation with God --that prayer isn't just asking for

something; it is sharing moments with God.

DAY 5- THERE ARE NO AGE LIMIT FOR FAITH

The Little Girl Who Shared Her Faith

2 Kings 5: 1-19

Memory Text: Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your
Father in heaven. Many years ago in the country of Aram there lived a man named
Naaman. Naaman was a great soldier and was in charge of the army. Everything
was going well for Naaman except that he had leprosy. Leprosy was a skin disease
that left spots on your skin.
At this point pass out the stickers and let the kids stick them onto their arms and legs to
represent leprosy.

Naaman’s wife had a servant girl who was from Israel. This little servant girl knew God and
had heard of a prophet named Elisha who could heal Naaman. Since she was just a servant
girl she could have kept her mouth shut, but she didn’t. She told Naaman’s wife about
Elisha and Naaman’s wife told Naaman.
Naaman was super excited that he might be healed! He quickly got permission from his
boss to go to Israel. His boss wrote a letter to the King of Israel asking for Naaman to be
healed. But, we have to remember that Israel and Aram were two very different countries
and they sometimes fought. So when the King of Israel read the letter he was afraid. He
thought that Naaman’s country wanted to fight with his country.
Then Elisha heard about what was going on and he stepped in. He told Naaman that if he
wanted to be healed then he would have to go to the Jordan River and wash himself in the
water seven times. After he washed himself seven times he would be healed. Now, when
Naaman heard this he got mad! Can you believe that? He thought that something
miraculous would happen when he was healed. He didn’t want to get into the yucky Jordan
33
River. There were rivers in Aram and Naaman could have just washed off in one of those
rivers instead of going all the way to Israel.
Finally, Naaman gave in and washed himself seven times in the Jordan River. When he did,
he was healed.

At this time help the kids remove their spots and throw them away.
Naaman thanked Elisha and said that now he knew that God was real. Naaman promised
that he would not worship any other gods now, only the one true God who healed him.
When he got back home his life was changed in more way than one. He no longer had
leprosy and he and his household worshiped God.
What an awesome story! All of this happened because a little servant girl was willing to
speak up. God can use anybody to do his work. He can use a little servant girl and He can
use you too!

Before the Activity: You will need small round stickers to pass out to the kids. During the
Activity: As you tell the story pass out round stickers to symbolize Naaman’s leprosy. At the
end of the lesson the class will lose their spots just like Naaman did.

Lessons learned:

1. As children we can be like little maid and take advantage of opportunities to tell others of the
power of God

2. As children, we need to bring people to the “Great Physician” for the taking
away of their sins.

3. As children, share the word of God even when away from home.

4. You can be recognized in heaven even when people don’t know your name
(slave girl).

5. God’s plan is simple. God said it that settles. Naaman obeyed and was cleansed
II King 5: 14) When we obey God’s plan we will be clean.
6. A young girl, taken from her home in Israel, showed remarkable faith in God. It got

the attention of not only her master, but also the kings of two nations!

GOD’S DESIGN FOR HIGHLY HEALTH CHILD

TEACHERS OPTIONAL MATERIALS

Adapted from God’s Design for the Highly Healthy Child by Walt Larimore

What’s a Highly Healthy Child?

True health involves our entire beings, with all the following elements:

 Physical
 Emotional
 Relational
 Spiritual
Nick Zervanos, M. D., family physician

“When the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of well-being are singing in harmony,
you’re healthy.
That doesn’t mean there is no room for a dissonant chord, but that the music of life is pleasant
to the ear.”

Ellen G. White, Child Guidance, p. 103.

“The future happiness of your families and the welfare of society depend largely upon
the physical and moral education which your children receive in the first years of their
life.”

The Four Wheels of Health

 Physical
 Emotional
 Relational
 Spiritual

A. The Physical Wheel

• Preventing diseases and treating it as early as possible is essential.
• When illness or disorder occurs, physical health involves learning to cope and adapt at
needed.
• With good emotional, relational, and spiritual health, a child lacking physical wholeness” can
still be highly healthy.
The Physical Wheel
• Activity – exercise, play outside, participate in sports and physical education.
• Rest – adequate sleep and rest.
• Nutrition – drink water, nutritious foods, abstain from alcohol, smoking, etc.
• Immunizations – get the necessary immunizations and recommended vaccines.
B. The Emotional Wheel
• Great emotional healthy is not the absence of emotional stress.
• Emotional health is learning to cope with and then embrace the full spectrum of human
emotions— positive and negative.
• Parents must teach our children how to appropriately recognize and express the full range of
human emotions.
The Emotional Wheel
• Love/Respect – communicate love & respect to your child.
• Affirmation/Appreciation -- Praise your child’s unique qualities, gifts, and talents.
• Media/Learning – influence your child’s learning. Encourage reading, playing besides TV/
computer games.
• Boundaries -- Set appropriate & limits for media use and learning.

C. The Relational Wheel

• A child’s relationships with his parents, siblings, friends, schoolmates, teachers, neighbors and
the community affects his relational health.
• Parents must involve their children in healthy relationships and protect them from toxic
relationships.
• Teach children how to exercise discernment in their relationships.
The Relational Wheel
• Relationship with Parents – need to spend time with your child – critical to his/her self-concept
and ability to develop and maintain healthy relationships.
• Connectedness – is foundational to a child’s relational & emotional healthy. Helps develop
constructive interactions with others, good attitude, optimistic, and can tackle life’s problems.

D. The Spiritual Wheel

• Personal relationship with God – personal devotions, Bible reading & prayer.
• Prayer – involvement in prayer groups, prayer conference.
• Spiritual instruction – training in church doctrines, Sabbath Schools. and Bible study guides,
small groups
• Spiritual activity – involvement in church worship and activity, involvement in community
services.

God’s Design for Highly Healthy Children – (part 2)

A. Be Proactive in Preventing Physical Disease

• Make sure your children receive regular checkups.

• See to it that your children receive appropriate immunizations.
• See to it that your children receive preventive dental care.

B. . Ensure Proper Nutrition

 Teach them to select a balanced diet.
 Eat more vegetables and fruits and less meat.
 A healthy eating plate should have:
o vegetables
o proteins
o whole grains
o fruits
 Limit or eliminate fast food.
 Avoid snacks, sweets, and fast foods.

Dangers of Childhood Obesity (Mayo Clinic report)

 Childhood obesity is on the rise in children.
 Childhood obesity is now an epidemic in the United States.
 Childhood obesity increases the risk of childhood diseases, such as type 2
diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular risks.

U. S. Childhood Obesity Facts Centers for Disease Control & Prevention

www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/obesity/facts.htm Ages 1980 2012

What Can You Do?

 Turn off the TV and get some exercise—5 or more hours of TV have 5 times
more likely to be overweight.
 Limit or eliminate fast food—a Big Mac with fries and large soda, he gets 1,500
ca.
 Eat Together as a family—study by American Psychological Association found
that teens who are with families5 or more times a week were less likely to do
drugs or depressed, were motivated at school & had better peer relationships.

C. Provide Adequate Protection

• Protect our children by building strong relationships with them.
 love them unconditionally
 listen to them as they share concerns
 hug them, write notes, little gifts, etc.
 build their self esteem & confidence
 spend time to do things together
• Protect our children through discipline
 define boundaries before enforcing them
 avoid making impossible demands
 distinguish between willful defiance & childish irresponsibility
 when defiantly challenged, respond with confident decisiveness
 reassure & teach after the confrontation is over
 let love be our guide
• Protect our children from a hostile world
 guard against abuse & abduction.
 Know where your children are
 know their friends
 teach them how get help
 teach children to face bullying head on
 investigate the school’s anti-bullying policy
 guard against strangers on the internet and television
 too much TV viewing can decrease
 --family interaction, lower creativity,
 --shape our children’s minds and hearts
• Protect your children from substance abuse
 set an example as parents
 talk to your children about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes

D. Nurture Family Relationships

 Strong families impact a child’s physical, psychological, educational, social health.
 Studies show that father love is important in predicting social, emotional, & cognitive
development & functioning of children & young adults.
 Developmental psychologist Brenda Hunter’s studies leads her to conclude that mothers
play a powerful role in a child’s formation of conscience & empathy.

E. . Establish A Spiritual Foundation.

 God intends that the home to be the primary religious training facility, not the church
(Deuteronomy 6).
 It is important to live and teach our children spiritual beliefs that permeate our
conversation & interactions with our children.
 According to Barna’s survey, children ages 5-13 have a 32% likelihood of beginning a
relationship with God.

Research about Spirituality

 Three variables emerge strongly from James Garbarino’s studies of kids committing
senseless, violent crimes:
o spiritual emptiness (vacuum)
o toxic social environment
o family instability
 Andrew Weaver’s research concludes that a spiritual foundation helps to buffer children from
the cultural and social poisons of modern life—gives a sense of hope.
 Parents need to develop true spirituality that results in the most important and enduring form
of health and vitality.
 Medical studies clearly show that spiritual distress can negatively affect physical, emotional,
and relational health.
 Spiritual distress or crisis occurs when people cannot find meaning, hope, joy, satisfaction,
love, peace, comfort, strength, and connection in life.

Establishing Your Child’s Spiritual Foundation

 Balance your own spiritual wheel.
 Teach your children spiritual truth daily.
 Pray with and for your children and family.
 Involve your family in a faith community.
 Prepare your children to make a difference in their world.

E. G White Child Guidance, 163

“No higher work was ever committed to mortals than the shaping of character. Children
are not only to be educated, but trained as well; and who can tell the future of a growing
child, or youth? Let the greatest care be bestowed upon the culture of your children.
One child, properly disciplined in the principles of truth, who has the love and fear of
God
woven through the character, will possess a power for good in the world that cannot be
estimated.”

F. Connect With the Larger Community

 Allow your children to grow beyond the family.
 Teach them to obey and respect authority.
 Teach them to respect differences that make people unique.
 Teach them to contribute to the world around them.

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
Hebrews 13:16,
The Bible:
 Teach them to build great friendships.
 Teach them to seek out mentors:
o mentors provide unconditional support
o mentors model positive values attitudes, and behaviors
o mentors help kids discover solutions to their problems
o mentors help kids look beyond today and to see tomorrow’s possibilities

G. Instill A Balanced Self-Concept

 Child development experts tell us that when a child believes he or she is a certain kind of
person, that belief guides his or her behavior.
 An unhealthy self-concept originates in childhood.
 Parents, teachers, and peers are very important influences on a child’s developing self-
concept.
 According to John Eldredge, boys & girls seek answers primarily from their dads regarding
how strong they are, or how beautiful they are.

Nurturing Your Child’s Self-Concept

 Love each child unconditionally.
 Understand the child’s temperament.
 Provide plenty of focused attention.
 Give plenty of appropriate physical contact.
 Appreciate uniqueness of each child.
 Encourage child to believe in himself Allow your child to make his or her own healthy
choices.

H. . Engage in Healthy Activities

 There needs to be a balanced diet for the mind:
o reading aloud to your children stimulates their brains
o reading together as a family and discuss about stories or articles read
 Choose active as well as passive activities for the family.
 Choose activities with physical health benefits.

 Choose activities that promote spiritual health.

 Help your children choose the right balance of appropriate activities.
 Do not over plan too many activities.
 Plan a healthy dose of family traditions.
o have kids write down their feelings
o start a gratitude journal
 Make family vacations a healthy memory.

I. Cultivate Growth & Maturity

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

 Each child is to be trained according to his or her bent – according to his or her temperament
and giftedness, according to the way he or she is created.
 Children need cheerleaders, not critics.
 Avoid comparing them with others.
 Don’t demand perfection.
 Avoid making rash comments in anger.
 Cheer them through their ups and downs.
 Give them wings and let go.
 Be sure to allow mistakes.

May the essentials presented by Dr. Larimore will assist you in raising highly healthy
children, who will become highly healthy adults, who will contribute mightily to the health of
the world around them.
