Training Modules for Electricians

Module 1: Basic Electrical concepts and Safety Practices

Duration: 2 Weeks
Objective: Build a strong foundation in electrical concepts and safety practices.

Contents:
1. Basic Electrical Concepts:
 Electrical terms and units: voltage, current, resistance, power, energy, frequency.
 Circuit types: series, parallel, and mixed.
 AC vs. DC: applications and differences.
 Reading and interpreting single-line diagrams/wiring diagrams.
2. Electrical Standards and Regulations:
 Overview of IEC, IEEE, and local electrical codes.
 Importance of adhering to standards in installations and maintenance.
3. Safety Practices:
 Recognizing electrical hazards and mitigation strategies.
 Detailed Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
 Grounding techniques and earthing systems.
 Firefighting techniques for electrical fires.
4. Introduction to Electrical Tools:
 Types of hand tools: screwdrivers, pliers, cutters, spanners.
 Instruments: multimeters, insulation testers, clamp meters, voltage testers.

1. Lighting Fixtures:

 Understanding types of lighting: LED, halogen, fluorescent, and CFL.


 Energy efficiency and lumens per watt.
 Dimming systems and control circuits.
 Maintenance schedules for industrial lighting (high-bay, low-bay fixtures).
 Common issues: flickering, overheating, failed ballasts, loose connections.

2. Fans:

 Types: ceiling, pedestal, exhaust fans, industrial fans.


 Motor types and winding inspection.
 Lubrication, bearing replacement, and noise reduction techniques.

Resources/Tools:

 Lighting: LED fixtures, tube lights, fluorescent fittings, ballasts, dimmer switches.
 Fans: Ceiling fans, exhaust fans, fan motors, and regulators.
 Tools: Voltage testers, screwdrivers, pliers, ladders, cable testers.
 Cleaning kits: air blowers, cleaning brushes, isopropyl alcohol.

Module 3: Low and High Voltage Panels (440V & 11KV)

Duration: 4 Weeks
Objective: Enable comprehensive maintenance and fault resolution of LV and HV panels.

1. Low Voltage Panels (LV):

 Understanding MCB, MCCB, ACB, and fuse protection.


 Wiring diagrams: interpretation and troubleshooting.
 Busbar inspection and tightening techniques.

2. High Voltage Panels (HV):

 Overview of vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) and SF6 breakers.


 CT/PT installation and maintenance.
 Arc protection systems and HV surge protection devices.

3. Inspection and Testing:

 Megger testing for insulation.


 Thermal imaging for detecting overheating.
 Earth resistance measurement.

Resources/Tools:

 Panels: Dummy panels with MCBs, MCCBs, relays, busbars, CTs/PTs, VCBs.
 Testing Tools:

 Insulation testers (1kV and 5kV).


 Infrared thermometers or thermographic cameras.

Module 4: Control Panels and Power Factor Panels

 Relay logic: creation and troubleshooting.
 Basic PLC programming for control systems.

2. Power Factor Panels:
