Catching your eye: The Front Page
The front page of the newspaper contains the most important news of the day. The headline,
stories and photographs all work together to catch people’s attention. Fill in the example of the
front page using your handout.
The Front Page:
Masthead: the name of the
paper, distinctive lettering Logo
Ear: space on either side of
the newspaper’s name.
Usually contains a logo. Headline: the words in
bold, large print at the
beginning of every news
By-line: the story, which summarise
name of the writer what the story is about.
