Public transport

As a public transport we use buses, trams, trolley buses and the underground system. There
are big differences among them.
The underground is definitely the quickest means of transport as it goes under the ground and
never gets into traffic jams.
The tram is slow but frequently runs. It works by electricity; it has fixed rails and doesn’t
pollute the air as much as buses do.
The bus can be fast but it can get stuck in traffic jams. It pollutes the air.
The trolley bus is a mixture of trams and buses; it has rubber tyres but runs on electricity.
Before getting on a vehicle we have to take care about a ticket or you can have a monthly
season ticket. Without a ticket you will be fined if the conductor catches you.
After you have a ticket you have to handle it, put it in a ticket machine. You have to keep
your ticket until the end of your journey.
Nowadays you have to show your ticket in advance at the entrance of the underground station.
The public transportation of Budapest is rather expensive; there are some problems with it.
Buses are often late and dirty. Conductors are rude and impolite. I think public transport needs
to be improved. For example, most vehicles are too old, in winter there is no heating, in
summer there is no air-conditioning. But I think it is better to use it in the city centre because
we can get to our destination faster than travelling by car.
Environmental friendly vehicles do not pollute the air; they can be the trams, the underground
or the trolley buses, because they don’t run by petrol.
Travelling
When we decide to travel somewhere we choose the way how to travel and also the place
where to stay.
Travelling by train is not terribly expensive, but not too comfortable. Carriages aren’t always
clean. They are often crowded and noisy. Trains don’t always leave and arrive on time.
You need a ticket to travel by rail, without it you will be fined. I often/ hardly ever travel by
train. (I usually travel by car/bus)
Air travel is the quickest way of transport and it is said it’s the safest as well. Before boarding
the plane you need a ticket and to register at the check-in counter. Next you get a boarding
card with your flight and seat number. After your passport is checked, you go through the
security gate.
I have never flown, but I’d like to try it once/ and I don’t want to try it because I am afraid of
flying/I am not interested in it.
I have flown last summer it was great. The view was fantastic from the window. I enjoyed it.
It was terrible, I was air sick/ we got in a terrible storm, I didn’t feel safe.
In Hungary there is a quite good inter-city coach network. Most vehicles are comfortable and
rapid. You can buy the ticket from the driver or at the ticket office. I often/ never travel by
coach.
We can choose among different types of accommodation, for example hotels, inns, camping
sites, hostels or private homes. We can book in advance on the net or on the phone, or
personally after arriving. In the different types of accommodation there are a lot of services.
Today it is basic that the breakfast is included in the price. In a room there can be room
service, a mini-bar, a well-equipped bathroom, a TV, a telephone, an internet access. We can
also use different facilities, like a swimming pool, the hotel’s restaurant and bar, a conference
hall, etc.
