This course is to provide a basic understanding of sprinkler systems and risk assessment. It is
specifically geared towards improving the skills of:
● installer sales division;
● insurance or brokers acting as risk assessors
● junior fire consultants;
● project managers;
● risk managers;
● supervising fitters;
● anyone wishing to develop a basic understanding of sprinkler systems;

Product categorisation
Types of sprinklers and their correct application
Interpretation of the storage tables
DAY 2
Basic rules of sprinkler spacing
Risk Assessment for sprinkler design requirements
Basic calculation for:
● number of sprinklers in operation
● actual spacing
● average spacing
● starting flow
Spacing of intermediate level (rack and shelf) sprinklers
The effect of intermediate level sprinklers on the water supplies
DAY 3
Effective capacity of storage tanks vs volume of storage tanks
Common errors on tanks and in pump rooms Estimation of water supplies
General Layouts of:
● alarms
● pump auto start arrangement
● life safety bypass arrangement
Pipe support and their correct applications
Sprinkler system maintenance requirements
