EXPERIENCE THE GLORY OF GODHEAD IN YOUR LIFE (TRINITY SUNDAY)

SCRIPTURES
ISAIAH 6 : 1 – 8
ROMANS. 8 : 12 – 17
JOHN 3 : 1 – 17

Christians all over the world observe Trinity Sunday to celebrate God’s
unique revelation to humanity in three unique or distinct but inseparable
personalities. The unity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit as three persons in
one Godhead. In other words, God revealed Himself to humanity as a
loving Father, a gracious Son and an empowering Holy Spirit that
fellowships with believers. The God we worship is a Triune God. The
revelation and doctrine of the Trinity has not been fully comprehended by
the human mind although it is evident in Scripture. How can God manifest
Himself in three ways and yet still remain the same God? This is a divine
mystery. Some erroneously think that Christian worship three Gods. The
fact remains that, we worship one God who has three personalities based
on the manner He chose to reveal Himself to humanity.

The theme for our Trinity Sunday is ‘Experience the glory of the Godhead
’. God’s glory refers to His awesomeness, perfection, power, presence,
and greatness in our lives. Experiencing the glory of the Godhead in our
lives should be our greatest desire as a people who have been saved.
Today’s Scripture readings reveal to us that:

1. We can only experience the glory of the Godhead through

repentance and regeneration in Jesus Christ.
2. Experiencing the glory of the Godhead and the sustenance of the
glory of Godhead in our lives till the final glory is revealed to us in
Christ is through the power of the Holy Spirit.
3. Those who are called experience the glory of Godhead never remain
the same, there is total transformation from an unclean state to a
clean state.

Firstly, if you wish to experience the glory of the Godhead in your life then
Jesus is the only way. In other words, we experience the glory of the
Godhead through salvation in Christ. Jesus is God and He represents the
Father therefore if we genuinely repent and are baptised in Him through
water and the Holy Spirit, the door is opened for us to experience eternal
life and the glory of the Godhead in our lives. Just like Nicodemus who
was born into Judaism yet felt a void within his spirit and needed salvation
after many years of being a religious teacher, you may have also found
yourself in the Christian religion by birth or association but to experience
the glory of God in your life you must be born again through the symbolic
cleansing of water and renewal through the power of the Holy Spirit. This
is the emphasis of the third Scripture reading when Jesus said “Truly,
truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he
cannot enter the kingdom of God.”(John 3:5). It is important to note
that before one enters the Kingdom of God, he or she through Christ and
the empowerment of the Holy Spirit will start experiencing the
manifestation of glory of the Godhead right here on earth before he or
she enters the Kingdom of God.

Secondly, when we have experienced the glory of the Godhead through

salvation in Jesus, the Holy Spirit continues to sustain the glory of
Godhead in our lives until we are lifted in into the eternal glory with Jesus
our Saviour. Our second Scripture reading helps us to understand this
fact. Roman 8: 15-17 assures us that “For you did not receive the
spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the
Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The
Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of
God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs
with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may
also be glorified with him.” It is again very important to note that we
can only be called sons and daughters of God and truly experience the
glory of the Godhead in our lives if we endure the cost of following Jesus
and faithfully follow Him until His second coming. Paul in Romans 8:13-
14 admonishes us that “For if you live according to the flesh you
will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the
body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are
sons of God.” In other words, to continuously experience the glory of
God in our lives, we must be led and be empowered by Holy Spirit and not
guided by the desires of our flesh.

Thirdly, it is refreshing to note that no one experiences the glory of the

Godhead and remains the same, there is always a revival, restoration and
a movement from an unclean state to a clean state, from fear to
courageousness and from hopelessness to hopefulness. Our first Scripture
reading reveals this fact clearly when Isaiah experienced God’s glory in
his life. Anytime we experience God’s glory in our lives, our human frailty
and sinful nature is exposed and it is at that instance that we must
humble ourselves and confess our sins before God for forgiveness and the
manifestation of the glory of God in our lives. When Isaiah experienced
the glory of God he immediately confessed “Woe is me! For I am lost;
for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a
people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD
of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his
hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.
And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched
your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned
for.”(Isaiah 6:5-6). My dear friend, God is ever present with us in His
full glory and He want His children to experience His glory on earth and
the glory to come when Jesus comes again, let us humble ourselves
before him for he will cleanse us and elevate us in His glory.

In conclusion, repentance and salvation in Christ is the key to

experiencing the glory of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit enables us to
overcome the desires and temptations of the flesh so that we can
continue to experience the glory of the Godhead even as we endure
suffering as children of God on earth while we await the final glory to be
revealed through Jesus our Saviour at His second appearing, and last but
not least, our lives are renewed, restored and totally transformed when
we experience the glory of the Godhead in our lives. May you experience
the glory of the Godhead in your life today. Amen!
