ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (TEACHER EDUCATION)
The minimum qualifications for direct recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor in the
Department of Teacher Education shall be governed by the NCTE Regulations, 2014 and its
amendment in 2017 (Notification dated 29/05/2017) and UGC Regulations, 2018.
A. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (PERSPECTIVES IN EDUCATION OR FOUNDATION
COURSES)
i) Postgraduate degree in Social Sciences with minimum 55% marks; and
ii) M.Ed. degree from a recognised university with minimum 55% marks.
iii) Besides fulfilling the above qualification the candidate shall have cleared the National
Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or the CSIR or similar test accredited by UGC
like SLET/SET.
iv) Provided candidates, who are or have been awarded Ph.D. degree in Education or allied
subjects or in the discipline relevant to the area of specialization in accordance with the
UGC (Minimum Standard and Procedure of Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulation 2009 shall
be exempted from the requirement of clearing of NET for appointment as Assistant
Professor or equivalent position in Universities or college or institutions.
OR
i) Postgraduate (M.A.) degree in Education with minimum 55% marks; and
ii) B.Ed./B.El.Ed. degree with minimum 55% marks.
iii) Besides fulfilling the above qualification the candidate shall have cleared the National
Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or the CSIR or similar test accredited by UGC
like SLET/SET.
iv) Provided candidates, who are or have been awarded Ph.D. degree in Education or allied
subjects or in the discipline relevant to the area of specialization in accordance with the
UGC (Minimum Standard and Procedure of Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulation 2009 shall
be exempted from the requirement of clearing of NET for appointment as Assistant
Professor or equivalent position in Universities or college or institutions.
B. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (CURRICULUM AND PEDAGOGIC COURSES)
i) Postgraduate degree in Sciences/Mathematics/Social Sciences/Language with minimum
55% marks; and
ii) M.Ed. degree with minimum 55% marks.
iii) Besides fulfilling the above qualification the candidate shall have cleared the National
Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or the CSIR or similar test accredited by UGC
like SLET/SET.
iv) Provided candidates, who are or have been awarded Ph.D. in Education or allied subjects or
in the discipline relevant to the area of specialization in accordance with the UGC
(Minimum Standard and Procedure of Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulation 2009 shall be
exempted from the requirement of clearing of NET for appointment as Assistant Professor
or equivalent position in Universities or college or institutions.
Note:
(i) In case of A and B put together, for two faculty positions, a postgraduate degree in
Sociology/Psychology/Philosophy with 55% marks and B.Ed./B.El.Ed. with 55% and
three years of teaching experience in as secondary school shall be considered.
(ii) The NET/SLET/Ph.D of the Assistant Professor can be either in the Pedagogy subject or
in Education. This relaxation is available only for Teacher Educators engaged to teach
pedagogy subjects.
(iii)For Teacher Educators who teach perspectives of Education or other core Education
topics, the NET/SLET/SET shall be in Education.
C. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (SPECIALISED COURSES)
1. Physical Education
i) Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) with minimum 55% marks.
Desirable: Training/qualification in yoga education.
2. Visual Arts
i) Postgraduate degree in Fine Arts (MFA) with minimum 55% marks.
3. Performing Arts
i) Postgraduate degree in Music/Dance/Theatre Arts with minimum 55% marks.
Note:
The clearance of NET/SLET/SET shall not be required for such Masters
Programme/discipline for which such exam is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR or
similar test accredited by UGC like SLET/SET.
