Assessment Instructions
1. This assessment is developed around a series of Workplace Activities (described on page
2). It combines a number of associated activities you will complete so you can demonstrate
competence.
2. The Evidence Plan identifies the assessment instruments designed to gather evidence
against the TASK before and during the project activities. Based on this evidence the
assessor will make an informed judgement of your competence.
3. The evidence plan identifies three types of Assessment Instruments. They are;
a. Skills demonstration
b. Observation
c. Oral questioning
4. Each assessment instrument will be explained to you in detail. This will include the type
of evidence they are designed to collect, when and where the instrument will be used, how
the evidence captured by the instrument will be assessed, and the feedback and sign off
procedure for each separate instrument.
5. You will be briefed by the appointed assessor before beginning the workplace activities.

Scenario
Customer reported this engine is over heating.
(1) Inspect the engine and find the cause of the over
heating problem. List the causes of the overheating.
(2) List the repair procedure you would carry out to repair the
over heating engine.
(3) Provide a list of parts required to carry out repairs to an engine
To be assessed as competent in the unit “ENGINE”, the following activities are to be
addressed:
Activities
1. The task must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturers’ specification
2. A serviceability report must be completed covering all faults found and repair
procedures to rectify faults
3. Repair faults if required
4. On completion there must be no damage to component, tooling, test equipment
and the engine must start and operate correctly if required.
